The Qantas Young Socceroos have had a 1-all draw against the Central Coast Mariners in a training match which served as their final hit out on Australian soil before the final selection of the squad that will head to Colombia later this month for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

After a scoreless first half, with both teams having limited scoring opportunities, Qantas Young Socceroos Head Coach Jan Versleijen made two changes at half time with Matt Acton replacing Mark Birighitti in goal and Corey Gameiro coming on up front for Matthew Fletcher.

The Central Coast Mariners took the lead in the 54[sup]th[/sup] minute after Trent Sainsbury fouled Michael Baird in the box. Baird then stepped up to take the resulting penalty, blasting his shot into the middle goal giving Matt Acton, who went to the left, no chance of saving.

The Qantas Young Socceroos equalized two minutes later after capitalizing on a turn-over by the Mariners in their own defensive third. Terry Antonis intercepted the errant Mariners pass and then laid off to fellow midfielder Dimitrios Petratos who then hit a stinging right foot shot from 30 metres out into the far corner of the goal easily beating the valiantly diving Mariners goalkeeper Justin Pasfield.

Sainsbury fouled Baird :innocent:

Can anyone report on our starting lineup and formations during the game?

Not a great result against a team of U/20s...
But they had Bernie! "The 2011 U20 FIFA World Cup participants – who included Mariners Bernie Ibini-Isei, Trent Sainsbury and Sam Gallagher in their starting XI – found their feet midway through the half, with Ibini-Isei rattling the cross bar with a stinging effort."

I don't think there is a schedule out (??) so best bet is to follow the Mariners on twitter or their Facebook page, and this forum... something will generally be on either of those if there is a game scheduled!

+ 1

Every year I fish around to find out - and usually attend several. ADZ is right of course.
But it's a pain in the ass having to check multiple places and dig - and while I visit the clubs pages fairly regularly -
TBH I find them more than a bit on the dull side.

I think it could turn out to be a great thread if people are bothered posting details here.
I'm happy to. Though I'm not exactly on the cutting edge of what's happening next.

Would be nice if the mariners posted upcoming fixtures witha bit of notice. Especially with such a long offseason.

Is good to get out to suburban grounds to watch a game

Cheers Darren.

Anyone else know of more upcoming pre season games? Something earlier than 6 weeks or so away...?
