ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mariners Centre of Excellence is GO!

Ok, we are playing this weekend on the back fields. We will be training from there on too.

There are massive piles of dirt sitting on the tennis courts close to the fields, with sections of the fence next to the little grassed car park next to the field pulled down. Not sure if relevant, but there is also a massive pile of mulch sitting in the grassed car park.

I don't think they expected it to be built, but just to be started. I'm assuming the club announced that it would be started "soon" a long time ago or something...

Announcement at Club Tuggerah last year implied they would be finished before Christmas. I'm pretty sure they were talking about starting construction of the other facilities by now.

Anyway, these things always drag on a bit, but I would have thought the training fields would have a been a huge priority.

They didnt get approval that quickly did they?

Training fields will be the priority. But timing can be important to cash flow

http://express-advocate-gosford.whereilive.com.au/news/story/council-funding-dispute-for-mariners/

A $300,000 three-way funding arrangement to support Central Coast Mariners is in jeopardy.

Gosford Council has indicated it is unwilling to continue with the arrangement and if it does not change its mind the remaining two sponsors, Wyong Council and the Department of Industry and Investment, may also withdraw.

The matter was raised at last weeks meeting of Wyong Council where a formal decision was taken to continue with the funding arrangement, provided the other two agree.

General manager Michael Whittaker said in a report to the council that while no formal position from either Gosford Council or the department had been declared, discussions had indicated Gosford was unwilling to continue the sponsorship.

Mr Whittaker said it was a surprising decision considering most home games at Bluetongue Stadium attracted an average of 11,000 people with the majority of visitors staying overnight within Gosford City and that up to 500 direct and indirect jobs were associated with the home games.

The Mariners were the coasts only team able to showcase the Central Coast to a local, national and worldwide audience.

It has been said that prior to the establishment of the Mariners, the Central Coast, as a region, lacked an identity and a community pride, Mr Whittaker said in his report.

Council sponsorship and support of the Mariners has created a unique opportunity to market the Central Coast as a desirable location to both live and work.

He urged Wyong Council not to be discouraged but to lead the way in declaring its financial support for the new season.

His recommendation was accepted unanimously.

Hmm...It seems ridiculous to me that Gosford Council would withdraw sponsorship of the only local national sporting team. A team that for a large part of the year puts the name of the Central Coast in the mainstream media. Lets change the name of the team to the Wyongshire Mariners. But, and I can't be precise on the details, perhaps someone in Gosford has a bitter memory of the way they were ripped off for a similiar amount of money during the abject Asian Champions League campaign? Perhaps some chickens are coming home to roost?

If they are in strife they should start selling assets eg sell Blue Tongue to the Mariners (with funding provided by the FFA) :innocent:
