Made it for the last 25 mins and 2 goals and was very entertaining but we could have had 5. Still, no complaints, our first ACL win and keeps our season alive. If we can get past Nagoya it will be a major acheivement. Good comeback and nice to see smiles on the players faces after the last couple of weeks.

A night of records

1) Our first ACL victory

2) The most goals scored by the Mariners at Bluetongue EVER!

And drumroll.............................................................

3) The biggest win by an Australian club in the ACL... EVER!

:vhappy:

(And on a sidenote the biggest loss record is held by the Jets... )

. if the roles were reversed we would have been saying our 'keeper had saved us from a HUGE embarrassment (rather than just an embarrassment)

. great effort from the boys ... they were up for it from the start

. bloody fantastic to see us scoring some goals ... even if it could have been a LOT more. particularly seeing the wee-man score - super goal

. just a shame there wasn't more people there to enjoy it ... tough gig 7:30 on a weeknight - as per the above comments, people were still filing in at half-time. i had a much harder time getting in to the carpark than getting out ... very strange feeling

Apparently a lot of people were caught on 3 hour train trips from Strathfield to Gosford - big problems at Epping. A lot of people came in late and I suspect a lot were just were happy to get home.

Great game and even though there was probably only 3,500-4,000 it was a good atmosphere. A really happy vibe probably helped by us tonking an Asian side for the first time.

We were great and played some sparkling football. The finishing was a bit Suss but that's the best we have played in the last three months and incoincided with us using our wing backs more effectively again and getting at them down the flanks.

Ryan 8. A couple of fantastic saves.
Pedj 9. Superb and really got the ball rolling with a superb tackle and drive forward and then combined astutely with Kwas a set up McBreen. From then we never looked back. When he is in that form he is irresistible. MOM.
Rose 7.5. Decent game at both ends of the park. Scored a great goal and missed the easiest chance I've ever seen.
Dutchy 7. Solid effort.
Wilko 7.5 I felt he read the game very well and was safe as usual.
Olly 7. Worked very hard and a constant threat.
Hutcho 7. Did the job. Enjoyed his pay back foul after a mariners played didnt get awarded an obvious free kick. Nice one Hutch.
Rojic 7. Some nice touches but workrate still below par.
WeeMac 7.5. Fantastic goal from the little jock. A real handful.
Kwas 7.5. A good game from Kwas overall. Showed some real quality at times along with the usual headless chook routine on occasions.
McBreen 7.5. Should have had a hatrick. Good effort from the big man and link up play was excellent. Showed some quality a couple of times and looked like a donkey at times as well.

Subs.
Amini 7.5. Great goal Musti and unlucky not to have a brace. Looked alot more energetic than Rogic.
Bernie 7.5. Opened things up immediately and should have been on 20 mins earlier.
Mclennen 5. Looks like a mug to me.

Well done boys and thanks for the first ever win in ACL. Well done Arnie.....I like that you didn't show any sentiment.....hard nosed and professional. ACL redemption was sweet.

Also security were excellent for a change so well done to whoever is responsible for those changes.

Wombat thanks for the comments - I didn't get to see the game. Nice win and nicer to know that wasn't just our first win in the ACL but our highest score at Bluetongue.

the worst thing about that...only 4155 saw it. I wish we put on these sort of performances in front of the bigger crowds! That's how you build a fan base.
Regardless, it's good to know we have a solid band of supporters!

One must wonder how the excessive workload in the second half of the season really affected our side. With the benefit of two weekends off they absolutely looked magic. They were noticeably faster, fresher & more controlled.

Ryan 8: Made some quality saves & his quick distrubution had the Teda players on the backfoot constantly
Pedj 7.5:finally went past the edge of the 18 yard box & we scored twice...amazing!! If he hadn`t of degenerated back to his usual form I would have given him MOM but sadly it wasn`t to be.
Wilko 7.5: Shakey at the start & almost gifted them an early goal.Recovered well though & played strongly.
Dutchy 8: Had a difficult job nullifying the Teda striker but gradually wore him down & made him ineffective
Rose 8: His best performance of the season.Scored a great goal (missed another) but a constant threat down the left.
Hutcho 8: One of Hutcho`s best games this season.
Olly 7.5 :looked sharp & played well.I just wish more of the things he tries would come to fruition.
Weemac 8.5 : My MOM.Every thing he did turned to gold.A fantastic game that had the visitors running in circles. His goal was just class.
Rogic 7 : Has superb control & vision but lacks the speed & strength at this point in time.I can`t wait to see him next season though.
McBreen 8: Last season I couldn`t stand watching him he was so bad, but he really turned that around this year & last night was probably the best I`ve seen him play. His 2 goals were a fitting reward.
Kwassie 2: Absolute rubbish!!! He couldn`t do a thing right. He was so poor it was embarrassing.
Musti : A fitting farewell tonight. Although he came on late he showed plenty of pace & tenacity.Scored a sensational goal
McClenahan: Will need a lot of time to adjust to first team football.
Bernie : Came on with 2 minutes to go.

I must agree with other posters in congratulating the referee. He didn`t get sucked into the diving & play acting of Teda in the early stages of the game which resulted in them having to try & play football.

most enjoyable to watch, so many players who deserved goals for their seasons getting them too (or assisting)

He also laid on 3 gift goals for others, only one was scored from( Musti's sensational goal). Watch the replay to see how it was put it on a plate for him.

Wombat summed him up well, some flashes of brilliance mixed with some frustrating stuff, but things were always happening. We definitely look more dangerous when he is on the park.

Watch the game and not the girls.
