fark........what a joke and no Brad Porter to blame.

So bad its hard to know where to start.

Ryan head looks gone and he needs a rest.
Fullbacks were rank.
Wilko and Dutchy really struggled with pace of Koreans.
Hutcho makes a great statue.
Our midfield was embarrassed....only threat(Bozanic) taken off at half time...possibly as scapegoat after losing the ball on half way.
Sutton is officially ranked as shite.
Arnie is stuck with us after that because no Asian club would touch him with a barge-pole after that.

I'd like to thank Arnie and the boys on behalf of all Jets fans for helping to keep our spirits high during this difficult time.

Gallagher out of his depth, sutton never had depth to get out of so is just a waste.

All this said I think we'll go through to next stage... Only if Bernie starts

Gallagher got torn a new one. I think 4 goals came down his side. Might be harsh but don't think we are missing much when he goes to Victory.

Obviously they were tired and down but it was very poor. Sad end to the season.

Agree with Wombat with the the only positive is that no Asian club would touch Arnie after that.

Gallagher, MVFC awaits. He has to be better than that. It's impossible not to be. Most damaging performance I have ever seen in a yellow (well white) shirt. His positioning was awful right from the outset. I was hoping it would improve... f**king hell.

McClenehan, not good enough, very unlikely will be.

Sainsbury, just not good enough. Have watched every game he's played for us, and has done ZERO to convince me he will ever be a good option for us.

Sutton, still appreciate the welly goal and I didn't rush in with a judgement after a few games, but after 6 I'd seen enough. Absolutely has to go. Beyond ineffective, I'm incredulous Arnie has persevered this far. Hearfield & Bernie looked infinitely better. Prefer McBreen also. And the fact that players like Rogic, Bernie or Amini have had splinters in their ass while this guy is on the field cuts to the bone.

Going now.

The feeling is mutual. We can savour in the fact that our bad times make the good feel even better.

Your franchise on the other hand...

TBH this performance could have happened months ago when the financial problems reared their head. Credit to the team that they held it together for so long. The penalty shootout lose has just knocked the spirit out of the players.

Agree with all, except on Sainsbury. I rate him. Didn't play well last night, but it was his 1st appearance as a DM for the 1st team...not too good...but it's hard to judge in such a all round poor performance!
I think he has shown plenty of potential when I've watched him...I can only really think of 2 forgettable games, 1 vs Sydney, and 1 vs Roar both in 2010/2011

I think Sainsbury will make it...but I could be wrong, I have a 50% success rate in rating players.
Success: Amini, Bernie, McGlinchey, Rogic, Jedinak, Griffiths, Simon, Bojic (as A-league standard), Ryan, Mallia (now at Sydney), Fitzgerald (now at Brisbane), Kruse, Traore, Carney (as a HAL footballer in V1...not as a Socceroo!!!!!!!!!)

Wrong :p : Travis, Adrian Caceres, Greg Owens, A.Elrich, Patafta (Newcastle/Melbourne player, but I backed and everyone got that wrong), Pellegrino (I trusted Arnie), Minniecon (what's happened to him...), Baird

And I didnt rate the following players, that turned out good: Warren (in England now), kwasnik post-Wellington (well done, I am once again a believer)

PS. Never rated Lewis, and he is gone...And I never rated Porter as a starting XI player.

But anyway thats roughly turned out to be a 2/3 success rate.

And considering I rate McDonald, Oates and Sainsbury...only 2 will make it :p

Dig that logic? :p

PS. Sorry for the insanity that may lie withing the above post...past my bed time! No filtering ability :p

I think they'll do better in the remaining games. Playing 120 minutes on Saturday night then playing overseas mid-week took its' toll. Thank f**k we didn't make the GF. We'd be Buckley's of winning after the last 5 days!
I didn't get to see the game but I think fatigue would be a major factor - the Koreans would have been a difficult proposition even if we were fresh.

Two draws and a loss- how many points do the Mariners need to reach the qualifying stages?
3 draws and a loss...we need to win our remaining 2 games. we were lucky the other match was yet another draw.

Where to begin with this performance. For all the people blaming Graham remember that he took us to the GF last year, qualified for the ACL and won us the premiership and another ticket to the ACL this year.

It is illuminating the difference between the strengths of the squads when you scratch past the starting 11. It seems quite clear that we have nowhere near as much depth as teams from Asia. Arnie was given this squad and has to work within the parameters that he has been given.

I think that the players were not up for the game. A gut wrenching loss to Perth on penalties with the view that their regular season is over. There seemed to be a few disinterested players out there last night which does not bode well in general. There has to be something going on behind closed doors to draw this sort of performance out of the team.

Irrespective of that we have a massive game coming up against Tainjin. It is Musti's last home game before heading to Dortmund. We need to get as many people as we can to the ground to give him a right royal send off. Who's In?

So on the strength of 1 game the A-League coach of the year is an international pariah?
It seems obvious that the ACL is a big step up from the A-League and so bolstering a dispirited team with sub-A-league stiffs was never going to be pretty.
It's hard to know where the growth is gonna come from in Australia's third most popular football code to close the gap, but undeniably the players are out there if the money can found to invest in them.
As the above poster says staying away from the Tianjin game is not an option.

Very well put and echoes my thoughts exactly.

Yeah, I've been a bit disappointed with the relative number of supposed Mariners fans who suddenly don't care whether Arnie stays or goes, based on last nights performance. I suppose this is the 'net and so, they could just, not, be Mariners fans but... I thought one of the major arguments put forth for him staying here, was that we're not the kind of fans who calls for the coach's head after a couple of losses... Especially not after his previous achievements.
Again, it's the end of our season, they're probably exhausted mentally and physically, there's rumour flying everywhere about the financial situation of the club and the movements of not just the coach but potentially large parts of the coaching staff, etc. etc... I'm still amazed they made it this far without cracking... On a positive note, it can really only go up from here/there...

Besides, they usually play better when noone rates us ;)

Yeah. Must be exhausting picking 10 balls out of the net in four days. Seriously, why would he need a rest? If he were anywhere else on the park I might agree. I doubt that there is anything wrong with his head over this.

The biggest mystery of the year for me is why Arnie has persisted with Sutton, rather than do what he did last year - blood some youth. Surely we have strike power in our championship winning youth team,eg, Duke.

The irony is that Arnie was forced, due to suspensions, etc,to use this game to mix things up a bit personnel-wise, but unfortunately it was the defence was the target. And apart from a 15 minute spell in the first half it flopped badly.

The positive is that one day we WILL rediscover our 'mojo' and again be the team of the first half of this season.

I will be travelling down the F3 to support the boys for the Tainjin match, hoping to finish the season on a positive note.

I quite like Wombat's Shakesearean vision tho: Arnold a wizened crone in rags shuffling up and down the corridors of a derelict Bluetongue muttering "musti, in the hole, in the hole" while at the Olympic stadium 100,000 people watch Australia win the World Cup, coached by ...?

what suprises me is how ungreatful people are (it shouldn't) but still, it irk's me.
what the guy did with no money is phenominal. i hope we can come up with a better deal
for the best coach where ever likey to have at ccm.

definitely, i consider that and the russian deal two of our most important chances at future-proofing. oh what we could be with having the Mariners culture, Arnie AND some foldin' money.
either way Arns will go within the next year or 2 regardless i'd just rather not see him at a rival or leaving so soon

i suspect, if others are anything like me, the roller-coaster ride element of it gets a bit much - at this point we stand in a sense to either gain it all or lose it and have been on the cusp for so long. combine with the hard end to the season after such massive highs and it's leaving people a little rudderless and hence some of the comments re: Arnout potentially leaving, possibly
