ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I agree Roy, I hate Faceook & so do the majority of "mature age" supporters.

This thread has been going quite a while now & many posts have been made regarding such a meeting.

I would have thought that the new guy (media manager?)that was supposedly reading this forum could have let us know.

Just very poor communication again. :headbutt: :naughty: :redcard:

The meeting was a get together for active fans to throw around ideas for the coming season not to get the latest from GA & PT
Not only was it on facebook (which, as an olderish member of this forum, I saw) but it was also in the yellow army thread on this site too. The first I heard about it was the Sunday before, on this site.
If you were looking in their thread on this forum you would have known as soon as they knew that GA & PT were attending which was the day before at around 9pm.

Poor form Style.

No mention. I guess no one thought to ask. However, the whole conversation was about the future of the club, so I guess PT and GA aren't expecting the club to fold any time soon.

You supposed to be able to see the notes taken on the night at the following link, but I'm not sure how to view them. There doesn't seem to be a link. I will speak to Carly about it and see what the deal is.

Agree I can't find the notes so when you find out post here so we can all have a boo peep...

As I am not a member of the Yellow Army I don`t make it a practice to read their thread or it`s link to facebook.

However, on the only occasion that I did read it, I found out about a meeting (which had been mooted in the general forum for some time).

The Facebook message DID NOT say it was "a get together for active fans to throw around ideas for the coming season" it said "Any CCM Fans, feel free to join us at Club Tuggerah tomorrow night from 6:30pm. We'll have Graham Arnold and Peter Turnbull as our guest, and we'll be discussing the season ahead!

When I read this & Deej`s post, that the meeting was the previous night (before my post) I was naturally disappointed that I had missed it,as was a few others.

The reason I come to this forum is basically to get information about the Club I love. The contributors here, some of whom are well connected, (yourself included) post great fan focussed information.

As an avid reader of every thread on here, even you only found out about it" the Sunday before".
Wouldn`t you have liked more notice so that you could inform more fans? Wouldn`t more YA members have attended if they were given ample notice that GA & PT were attending?
Was it advertised widely on the CCM website too?

You need to realise that the majority of Mariners fans are not members of the Yellow Army,(that`s not a criticism of that fantastic group of people) yet we are still as interested, passionate & loyal to our team as they are.

I fail to see how it is "POOR FORM" for criticising the Club for not publicising the meeting more widely.

I honestly cannot believe what I just read! I dont know where to start... but I'll point out the obvious. Yellow Army does not have membership. Please read their charter http://www.yellowarmy.net/node/6.

Secondly, you have no one else to blame but yourself for not being informed. OK, Facebook isn't your thing but you dont need to be on FB to be updated with the YA activities... it's presented on a bloody plate here in this forum. Take responsibility for your poor choices of what you choose to read and what you choose to ignore in this forum.

Thirdly, here's what the initial Facebook message from 15 May 2011 said... "Hey Guys, with the off season in full swing we're looking to have an ideas night this coming Wednesday at Club Tuggerah at 6.30pm. This is an open meeting for anyone with ideas or who wants to get involved in helping Yellow Army out for the coming season. Come get amongst it and help make this year the biggest yet.", so you may want to rethink your 3rd paragraph.

Fourthly, why should it be advertised on the CCM website? The YA organised it and they advertised it on FB for the 980 Mariners fans who like their page as well as anyone else that happened to view it. The posts were copied here for all... what... 20 or so people who refuse to go on FB to read (to be honest, I think that number is more like 5 than 20). Putting it on the CCM website may have attracted more people, but maybe it's not what the YA were after... as their post above suggests, they were interested in getting those people who wanted to get involved in helping them out next season. They organised it, they have the right to decide what kind of event they want.

Finally, to take your argument further, what about the fans without computers? What do you suggest... a mail out? How else are those people going to be informed? OK, I'm being ridiculous... but only to illustrate my point. YOU have a computer, YOU are an avid reader of this forum and YOU are the only one who can be held responsible for neglecting to read the YA updates on this forum. So yes, I agree with Scottmac... POOR FORM on your behalf when you start criticising people for your own neglect.

We can, y'know, wind the heat back a little in this thread. It's a long off season, you've got 5 months left to flay each other.

We need to be giving the club major kudos, not a bagging, for having 2 of the most senoir Mariners at this YA get together. It shows their interested in where our active support is going and willing to give their own time for our most passionate and loyal supporters

I would love to hear if the invitation was extended to them to attend or if they got in contact with Poko or someone else asking to attend. Anyone know that? I'm sure Style would be keen to hear that too.

OK OK OK ... lets all clam down...

As I see there are a couple of things that are bleedingly obvious... First the club has some financial issues, to what extent we don't know .... in times like this its all hands to the wheel division can be fatal... finally we have a number of supporter groups each with some past issues or issues....

For me a small club like ours can run properly one main fans forums site were information and talk about the club... this is better than a series of smaller forums ... I am now aware of three ... this one, Yellow Army & Facebook... the Yellow Army from what I saw has but a handful at best of regular posters...

If facebook is the way to go then I guess I may have to use facebook .... but I am dammed if I am going to sit on three sites ... maybe its time to close this site as we did the old proboards site and move to facebook...

Anyone got any idea of the number of facebook regular users ....

. i sympathise with style and agree with midfielder's sentiment

. i used to have the ccm website as my home page but realised that was largely a waste of time

. i link straight to the "Central Coast Mariners FC Generally" board because that is what i am interested in ... the club generally, if i had the inclination to read everything else on the forum i wouldn't have the time - i didn't even know the format had changed until i just looked. i used to poke my head in the supporters area but the postings there became too infrequent to worry ... especially since the split (or splits) in the supporter base

. i don't frequent facebook because my husband is a paranoid schizophrenic and the whole concept just attracts a whole heap of unwanted crap invading your inbox (anyone seen the south park episode?)

. i have never been part of 'the bay' but joined the marinators when they were set up to add to the support along with being an avid reader of this and the proboards forums as they seemed to be 'the place to be' for club info

. as i admitted before i don't necessarily begrudge anyone for the way the meeting was organised, run or advertised ... but it doesn't mean i have to be happy about it either

. and while i am having a whinge ... it still irks me that any one group can proclaim to be the 'most loyal and passionate supporters' - especialy when a number of those have admitted in the past to not even being members of the club

It was advertised as a night to get ideas for Yellow Army related stuff - tifos etc I guess - but from the info that was posted (and then retracted) after the meeting it was mainly about general Mariners stuff. So IMO style and atomic both have valid points, but it's a long offseason so just chillax a bit.

Thanks to all for your input & information.

As I now see it,it looks like the "meeting" was planned to be a YA get together & evolved into a open meeting whereby GA & PT attended.

Why didn`t someone say that in the first place?

We are all here for the common good but as Midfielder wisely pointed out there are now 3 different forums so messages can get lost/or misconstrued.

I suppose if anything good has come from this it is the recognition that CCM need to have clear lines of communication to "all" their fans.

I don't really see any advantage in closing this site down. Not everyone wants to be part of the Yellow Army Club, stand behind the goals waving banners etc, and go to meetings and talk about standing behind the goals waving banners etc.

If there really does need to be only ONE outlet for Mariners news, and ONE place to discuss Mariners related topics then it should be run by the Mariners, and not a group of volunteers, even if they do label themselves as "official".

I will not use Facebook. Ever. call me a hack or whatever but I hate the whole concept of virtual friends that exist online only. It strikes me that some ego's are at play as to who has the biggest clout amongst supporters.

I don't care. This forum is not a preschool playground. It is a useful forum for discussing something which we should all be passionate about. That is The Mariners and all things football. Enjoy it for what it is. That is for offering friendly, lively debate on subjects which are near and dear to our hearts.

On the subject of The Mariners, a big shout out to GA and the boys for putting on a fabulous juniors coaching clinic. The boys from our club raved about it. Now if only I can convince GA to come and coach some over the hill players!!

Just for the record, the Yellow Army is not limited to those who consider themselves 'active supporters' (there seems to be a fair bit of confusion/miscommunication going on around this).
http://yellowarmy.net/node/6
Anyone is welcome to come along to YA meetings with suggestions around anything CCM related, questions, comments, or just to have a good schnitty. Also, as previously mentioned, there is a thread on this forum directly linked to YA facebook updates. Any YA meetings will be communicated in there.
Alternatively, feel free to PM me with any questions/suggestions :)
Anyway, back on topic - how about that local sporting team, eh!

There will never be one outlet. We have so many different fans (even though we need a few more at games) that one outlet would never satisfy the masses. I think that was one of the reasons why YA exists now.

Not everyone will be YA.
Not everyone will visit facebook.
Not everyone will be a ccmfans regular.
Not everyone will attend games.
Not everyone will visit the official CCM site.
Not everyone will follow on twitter.

Lucky we've got them all so that everyone is catered for. If we miss something because of our personal preference then we can't be all that upset about it and fly of the handle blaming others, especially when said party have gone out of their way to make an effort in this case.

Its personal preference that caused us to miss the info. If the info is something that you do not want to miss out on the I'd suggest we start embracing some of the above media outlets so that next time we are all fully informed. Thats one of the reasons I joined the YA site and the only reason I joined twitter.

The thing is Style, you would have known this if you went looking for the information rather than blame the club. Like I said above, if you're someone that likes all the info, then start embracing some other forms of media. It wont hurt you and you dont even have to admit you do it. You'll just be more informed. Win win.
