Caceres, is by all accounts a vastly superior player and according to a friend of mine who is a Victory member (and an ex NSL player himself) he was a crowd favourite and it was not popular decision that Merrick sold him.

I'd say Caceres is even more inconsistent than Kwasnik. Caceres has games where he's amazingly deadly, he also has games where he disappears. 90% of games he does play, he's finished my the 60min mark so you always need to have a sub ready for him. As a coach, that would be annoying.

Wombat said:
Apparently he was viewed as not a good tackler.

Caceres is very poor at tracking back, yes. But the main reason he left MVFC was because they refused to guarantee him gametime, did not think he warranted the payrise he asked for, and Merrick was annoyed at his inconsistency.
Caceres is a good signing *IF* Lawrie and co can get that consistency in to him and get him to pick up his defensive skills a bit. If not, for the money paid, he will be a waste.

I'd keep Kwassie in the squad but I wouldn't be bothered if he left or not.

Fair call, but I think those people automatically assuming that the players you have signed are vast upgrades on Kwasnik have another thing coming. Especially when you put the cap figues in place.

Blimey Charlie, 48 hours off this forum and don't you miss some serious stuff?

We will miss Adam. I do not agree with his critics, he has been a very good Mariner. Good luck to him at the Caketin.

Can I suggest that those who are sledging our Club's management consider these points:

1. With Caceres & Elrich joining us AND, importantly, Mile becoming a 'Roo, our Salary Cap becomes an issue. You have seen other sports teams in Australia get EVISCERATED with Salary Cap breaches (2003 Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, who were a lay-down misere for the premiership &  2003 Carlton AFC) so we don't need that sort of trouble. Yes, I am aware that a certain HAL team have also done this, but they are SPECIAL, aren't they?

2. A considered decision has been made to reduce our average age, significantly. No more Viddy, Aloi$i, Brownie, Gumps & Tommy reduces our "veteran" class in a big way. Yes, we may struggle at times this year, but the long-term strategic plan seems sound. We had two good cracks at the HAL in V1 & V3, now we have the second generation of Mariners on show.

I would urge patience from our loyal supporter group. Yes, I acknowledge the gaps we have in our squad, but give the new chums time. Also, we need to give our Management the benefit of our patience and unbinding support for the future of our club. Lyall, John, Mr Turnbull & Lawrie clearly have a plan, and we owe to them to see this plan through.

Remember, the entire HAL will lose players next year when the Thunder and GCU go live, so our Club is shoring up our playing core in preparation for V5 and beyond.

I am most confident that we will draft in players for the ACL next year (are you as excited as I am about the ACL? I ALREADY have Annual Leave stocked up in case our home Wednesday Nights clash with my roster), like most other clubs do.

In summary, good luck Adam, and I hope that he gets a chance to play for our country in the future.

Great post!

one thing i have to say, we have done direct swaps with other A League clubs about 3 times now: Petrovski for Spencer with SFC, Caceres for Pondeljak MVFC and now Elrich for Kwasnik WPFC. I can say there is only one of these 3 "trades" that have been beneficial to the CCM that being Petrovski for Spencer. The jury is out on Caceres for Pondeljak and it could go either way. But signing Ahmad Elrich and letting Adam Kwasnik go has to be the dumbest thing CCM management has done.

To summarise my thoughts we have let go of a hard working, quick and versatile player, which comparatively is a cheap player (to Elrich anyway) and in a growth period in his career for a player that is considered to be lazy, arrogant and on a career decline that probably is costing us a lot more in wages than Kwasnik is even getting from Wellington. In everything deal and transaction there is almost always a winner and a loser. We aint the winners in this. Go figure

Its official, kwas has moved to the nix.

Bad call IMHO.  Though i will at least wait until a few games in the season before i jump to conclusions on Elrich and Caseras.

As for Kwas, I will miss his heart like Grumps he gave his all every match

Haven't been on for a while, but did anyone else LOL at this.

Let's just hope Mrdja gets a couple of pre season games in and is ready for when the A League kicks off. I think we are going to need him this year.

kwas was one oof those players in my opinion i could never pick .. whatever  he touched was either complete gold or complete sh**  no in between .  but he did provide at times when we needed  e.g.  the 3-0 win  over the scum  hahaha such a great goal

jaza made some good points. whether you like kwasnik or not, have we got better players to replace him? potentially elrich and caceras are better, but i am not so sure that they will fire.

the point i am making is that with the departure of kwasnik have we gained?i am not a fan of his, but i dont think his replacements will be worse than kwas, but are they much better? time will tell.

Interesting though that there hasn't been a media release or announcement made about this.

He's name still appears on the website as being apart of the team..  Yes Andre still appears, Trott is gooone.

Big loss to the squad imo - scored some greats goals and played injured a fair bit last season to help the team out

thats a risk you take with any signing. Hypothetically, if we were to sign Cristiano Ronaldo tomorrow, it would be the best thing ever to happen to the club however, there may be a chance (however small it is) that he could get injured or go horribly out of form (i.e. sub-a league standard).

But then again enough with my hypotheticals

yeah but i think it is safe to say ronaldo is a better player than kwasnik. i havnt seen anything from the last season(apart from elrich's goal against us) to suggest that elrich and caceras are better than kwasnik. which isnt saying much for them. but hopefully i am wrong. i think this season will be tough.
