ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Sometimes I wish we had that screen the Manager section in FIFA 08 gives you that says how long everyone is signed on for, it would come in handy a lot.

There's a thread on teh Sydney forum with all contract expiries on it.

im starting to doubt the management of the mariners at the moment. i get the feeling that we are caught up in the success of the premiership last season. We have let some important players go i.e. Tommy, Kwas and more importantly we let some decent prospects slip through the net i.e. Kaz Patafta being the notable example. there are also players that might be rusty that are being mentioned i.e. Bosnich and Yorke. I sure as hell hope Lawrie has a plan to get some decent A League standard players to replace Kwasnik and Tommy or we have no hope of the top 4.

So this means we need:
A Goalkeeper (Please Vanstrattan not Bosnich) (experienced)
An Attacking Midfielder (experienced)
A second striker/winger (young/experienced)
A Centre Back (young)

I hope the last three all have decent pace and both those attackers listed are either of Marquee status with loads of creativity or else we could be in trouble. with all those 4 positions needed filling, We cant be looking for just someone to fill the squad numbers, we have to be looking for players that challenge the established players in their positions

Though a bit of optimism - from what has been said, Spencer and Song controlled the midfield. If Jedi was there things would probably have been a whole lot different.

I tend to agree with your concerns but at this late stage I can't see where these signings are coming from unless they have something up their sleeve?

A keeper and attacking mid are the 2 most important positions IMO

Well I guess the upside is that we have the entire world to look at for these 4 players as none of our OS player slots have been filled

I had that one wrong. To be fair I copied it off the press release, which read like two years, but it seems like he was one of a few CCM players who had clauses in contract that triggered another year (Pondeljak turned his down to go to Melbourne, Gumprecht didn't get the number I think, Kwassie obviously did but hasn't taken it).

I don't get everything right :(

I honestly think this is the point where CCM should've been starting to look overseas. Aus talent is all good and well, but there are serious gaps in the squad that are looking hard to fill. Maybe not for GK (a few guys in NSWPL could do the cover job for comparatively good cash), but certainly for the midfield slots that now need filling.
Problem is that now it's too late to properly scout. Only hope would be to get trialists in and see how they are up front, but the quality of trialists can be sketchy.

Well I think most people had thought he was under cintract, expecialy with the way that TWG article was worded.

Blimey Charlie, 48 hours off this forum and don't you miss some serious stuff?

We will miss Adam. I do not agree with his critics, he has been a very good Mariner. Good luck to him at the Caketin.

Can I suggest that those who are sledging our Club's management consider these points:

1. With Caceres & Elrich joining us AND, importantly, Mile becoming a 'Roo, our Salary Cap becomes an issue. You have seen other sports teams in Australia get EVISCERATED with Salary Cap breaches (2003 Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, who were a lay-down misere for the premiership &  2003 Carlton AFC) so we don't need that sort of trouble. Yes, I am aware that a certain HAL team have also done this, but they are SPECIAL, aren't they?

2. A considered decision has been made to reduce our average age, significantly. No more Viddy, Aloisi, Brownie, Gumps & Tommy reduces our "veteran" class in a big way. Yes, we may struggle at times this year, but the long-term strategic plan seems sound. We had two good cracks at the HAL in V1 & V3, now we have the second generation of Mariners on show.

I would urge patience from our loyal supporter group. Yes, I acknowledge the gaps we have in our squad, but give the new chums time. Also, we need to give our Management the benefit of our patience and unbinding support for the future of our club. Lyall, John, Mr Turnbull & Lawrie clearly have a plan, and we owe to them to see this plan through.

Remember, the entire HAL will lose players next year when the Thunder and GCU go live, so our Club is shoring up our playing core in preparation for V5 and beyond.

I am most confident that we will draft in players for the ACL next year (are you as excited as I am about the ACL? I ALREADY have Annual Leave stocked up in case our home Wednesday Nights clash with my roster), like most other clubs do.

In summary, good luck Adam, and I hope that he gets a chance to play for our country in the future.

"Four good games a season" is better than Nik "Four good games when I can be arsed" Mrdja, especially for the price.

Have a feeling it all comes down to money or lack thereof, good luck to Kwas getting the offer he did from the 'nix.

For mine he has never cemented a starting birth and has been a bit of a protected species.

He does occassionally do some good stuff and has pace to burn but more often than not takes the wrong option and has little composure in front of goal.  I'd keep him as a squad player as his pace could be useful late on if we are chasing a game.

Caceres, is by all accounts a vastly superior player and according to a friend of mine who is a Victory member (and an ex NSL player himself) he was a crowd favourite and it was not popular decision that Merrick sold him. Apparently he was viewed as not a good tackler.

I'd keep Kwassie in the squad but I wouldn't be bothered if he left or not.
