ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Here's my model - 3 levels of membership - I've added the nippers level as it coast lingo - If not then make it tough & only have one or two members - Keeps AM happy as makes it more relevant over time.

Legend Status - Lawrie & Arnie - highest award possible
Club Men - Maybe not the prettiest or most successful but Yellow & Blue through & through
Nippers - Would have been legends - They learnt to walk with us & run Overseas - Mile, Matty Ryan,

Definitely Kwassie......for most missed shots.

Gumpy is my nomination.

I'd also second Lawrie and Hutcho.

For all his flaws, Kwassie had some insanely brilliant moments… something Simon lacked.

Gumprecht? If we're going to pick players with only 60-odd games that most of our fans won't remember, I don't know how you don't pick Pondeljak.

FFS - even Bernie played more games here. A hall of fame has to be about the greats, not a player who was well-liked, or we're going to have heaps of players in there.

He left to spend a season at a rival club... that's not an insignificant factor when deciding on HoF inclusion. It doesn't necessarily rule him out, but he'd have to be something very special to warrant inclusion... which he's not.

Also, to be pedantic, he is not "on the coaching staff". He is employed by the club to go around to primary schools... some sort of community engagement thing. A worthwhile endeavour, but to say he is on the coaching staff is drawing a long bow.

Who wouldn't remember Gumpy????? Showing your ignorance again Dibo.
Lawrie lost the faith of a massive amount of fans and his job when he played games with Gumps.
Pondeljak had quality but was not a dynamic player....not a game changer. Gumps was our best player in our first two seasons.

Obviously your inflatable Hutcho doll indicates that he would get your vote.....who else gets the nod from you?

If I recall correctly, Gumps had a clause in his contract where if he played 'x' number of games, it triggered an extension, or a pay increase, or something. That's why Lawrie was not starting him towards the end of Gumps' contract bcause he (or Turnbull) didn't was to trigger that clause.

That could be complete BS of course... it may have just been an urban myth at the time but it seemed plausible to me. Like a lot of other fans, I was at a loss to understand why Gumps wasn't starting.

There was a lot of chatter about Gumps around the time that he left. If it was true, there could've been a range of factors at play (cap/budget constraints would be my #1 guess), but even if it wasn't it could've been a case of the club choosing a different direction.

*None* of that discounts the fact that there are a number of players who played a similar or greater number of games for a similar or greater contribution, and there's got to be some sort of standard set for the hall of fame other than "he played for us for a few years and fans thought he was pretty good".

If we include Gumprecht, how many of these other players would we be including (this is a list of all players with 50 or more games from here):

John Hutchinson 219 18

Matt Simon 148 41
