giving Trotty a chance?

With furthertalk today about signing Bosnich I believe we should be giving Trotty another chance, if we give a former drug cheat a chance why not give Matt another chance.

Matt has been training hard and has stuck with the mariners and it's a bit disappointing to hear the latest talk about Bosnich temporarily signing up for the nuimber one keeper spot.

Is his battle with drugs over ?

" Mark Bosnich says he has lived a life of Riley and still takes cocaine.

But the disgraced former Socceroo, who happily accepts his goalkeeping career is over, insists his battle with drugs is "totally under control" after his intake peaked at 10 grams a day during the darkest period of his life. "

Who do we want Matty I say. !!!!!!!!!!!

He is a good shot stopper but he does not command his area nor defenders

The game against Melbourne NYE showed how poor he was at this. He doesn't even berate his defenders when they slacken off. It was if he had no tongue.

8 games is just tooooooo long - and if we all think Danny will be back after the Olympics then we should start looking for those flying pigs. My bet is he will be sold if he has a great Olympics....

masmariner - in all fairness, Bosnich isn't, as you put it, a "drug cheat". he wasn't taking coke to give him an advantage over his opposition, he wasnt seeking to unfairly gain any sort of advantage - so i dont really see how that is 'cheating'.

for my money - bozza is the man. he's shown he has the grit and determination to get his life back on track, and has worked his ass off (not to say trotty hasnt, but christ, bozza kicked his coke addicition!), and i'd love to see him between the sticks for us.. (and by us i mean my indoor soccer team after we went down 5-2 last night).. but in all seriousness yeah, i'd love to hear he has signed for the mariners.

priorpeter - If Bosnich had Cocaine in his sytem whilst playing and I say he would have it would have given him an advantage over the other athletes he was playing against, the stimulant effect is well known.
Was he ever tested prior to games. ?
Cocaine is banned by the International Olympic comittee "Cocaine is a powerful Central Nervous System stimulant, responsible for the death of some professional and university sportsmen. The dangerous effects of cocaine are the reason for its prohibition.
Snorted or smoked as crack, cocaine takes a toll on our Nervous, Respiratory and Circulatory Systems. Its ongoing use provokes addiction, dependency, anxiety and psychotic disorders."
So I don't know why he was taking cocaine but it would have given him an advantage whilst playing.

LOL
maybe once off cocaine use would gove him an advantage playing but having an addiction would most definitely disadvantage his playing abilitiy

10 goals, 164 minutes.

We need a solution for Danny's suspension. End of.

Whether its Bosnich or someone else, we just need to get it sorted.

I still can't believe people are blaming Trotty for those 10 goals LOL, but I do agree that we need another keeper

you're taking the piss, right? cocaine would have given him an advantage over the opposition, simply because it's a stimulant? his coke addiciton would have severely hindered his playing ability, that's the bottom line. if anything it would have made him more erratic, and i highly doubt that any professional athletes would use cocaine in an attempt to gain an advantage over their opposition.

the drug isn't banned because athletes can get an advantage out of it - it's banned because it is an illegal substance . not only that - but as you said in your post "Cocaine is a powerful Central Nervous System stimulant, responsible for the death of some professional and university sportsmen. The dangerous effects of cocaine are the reason for its prohibition... Its ongoing use provokes addiction, dependency, anxiety and psychotic disorders. "
but sure, i can see how bozza would gain an advantage from having anxiety and psychotic disorders whilst playing...

*EDIT* - i'm not trying to defend what he did, or say it was right - just saying i dont think he was trying to gain any sort of advantage.

I cant believe the blame game is still being played.

personally i would hate to come off the bench with no play time all season and turn around and try and do the best job  as possible imo match practise is the best form of practise and Trotty honestly had none leading up to that.

Really give the lad a break.

Sigh.........

Whether he personally was to blame or just instilled a lack of confidence in those around him leading to defensive blunders, the facts are the facts.

It really doesnt matter because CCM are in the results business and on the evidence presented so far, he can stop shots well but cant play the 5th defender/sweeper role that Danny does. This leads to positioning errors by defenders and the results are what we have seen.

Because that former drug cheat was also formerly the best keeper on earth

If Lawrie was considering keeping Trott is 1st choice, he should of had him at a state league team on loan for match fitness the moment Dannys hand hit that muppet Breeze. Lawrie knows Trott is not confident, everyone who has ever seen him play knows, so the fact he was not loaned tells me we will sign someone else

IMO we shouldve loaned both Trott and Redmayne out for the off season.

100% correct. Can anyone out there honestly say they had every confidence in Trott when he was playing during Dannys suspension?I seriously doubt it.My heart was in my mouth every time the ball went near him.At corner kicks he was like a drunk man chasing a balloon. We could lose the league in the first 7 games playing Trott in goals.

Sign up Bozza or someone else but do it soon for f**ks sake!!
