giving Trotty a chance?

Although I have to agree that defending by the backs was poor to say the least during 'those 2 games' and it's possible that being thrown in at the deep end was unexpected Trott really made some basic errors and at times did'nt have a clue whether to stay put or take on the attacker and indecision left his timing way out. It leaves me in two minds and only the coach will be able to judge whether he has improved enough to risk being first choice keeper for the length of Danny's suspension. It is long enough to stuff the whole season and leave us with no hope of a finals berth if our second and third keepers are not up to it. I still hope we buy one good back to sure up the defence that was leaking so many times last year leaving Danny to make some great saves to keep us on track.

I think if a loan deal that allows us to swap a good quality keeper while Danny is suspended eventuates we should take it. Buying another keeper for the saeson would be a waste of money IMO providing that Danny is solid in his comittment that he will play out the season on his return from suspension.

Hard decisions and glad I don't have to make them.

Trott is a good keeper if not why sign him at all?

Why did the jets let go of most of the team?

Or were they just dying to get out of the place?

Minus Aloisi we still have a very competitve team for V4 and the ACL. Could'nt say the same for the Jets that's for sure.

If you loss Joel to the Japanese team as has been suggested the Jets will most likely come dead last.

SnowMariner - are we to blame Danny for losing the grand final because he let in that goal, ignoring the fact that Wilkinson was rubbish for the entire game??  ;)

Definately give Trott a chance. As Yellowbeard said above he had a blinder vs. Sydney in Canberra during the PSC. He also saved the Mariners' ass vs. Queensland.

Given proper preparation, and the knowledge he has the gig if fit, then he will be right to go, and his defence set the way he likes it with prior training.

It's not so much a case of giving Trott a 'chance', but rather he taking the opportunity to do what he has been contracted for - replacing Danny.

Just rubbish in the grand final?

Besides Heff, I think we could do alot better in the backline.

Sorry, we need another keeper

In which case Trott is more of a waste of a spot than Mrdja.

a) We just won the premiership. Name a realistic defender we could sign who is 'a lot' better than what he have.
b) Wilko's form was a bit up and down after being consistently good for 2 whole seasons, but he is still a better defender than Heff. That's not what Heff is about.

Id pick 4 Wilko's in my back line before I picked ANY OTHER defender in the a-league

IMO and like all of us I'm entittled to one, I think:

Jade North, Adam Griffiths, Rodrigo Vargas, Angelo Constanzo are very solid defenders and would be happy to have any of them in the team.

Sasa Ognenovoski who recently transfered for Queensland to Adalaide would have been a good signing.

Nigal Boogaard is also a good young defender and sure to get only better but I would'nt be to sorry to see Wilkinson,Clarke and O'Grady replaced.

Although within the A-League ranks options are limited It would be interesting as to what standard of back we could aquire OS and possibly Sheffield would be the first port of call to suss out talent. Other than that I'm sure their plenty of other places in the world that the club could look at.

With LAwrie in the UK at the moment maybe he is doing of up close and personal sussing out some decent talent to add to the squad.

When Lawrie went to Vietnam recently was he there to check out the conditions or to look at player maybe Philani

No need to be sorry. He doesn,t command his box and he makes his defenders nervous.Sign another up and coming keeper and decide between him and Redmayne.Send Trott back to the Lightning. He,s a decent keeper at that level but thats all he,ll ever be.

My nerves were shot whenever the ball went near him last season!

They left becoz of a contract experation.

ALSO wat im saying is why the f**k would u sign a keeper who u werent confident in would be worse then signing Jardel

That aint a good "squad". That is a decent 10-13 players.....not a squad

p.s a fans opinion of a player can be much different to whatg the coach thinks. Also not as big a mistake as jardel as he isnt on the same money and the isnt the "marquee" player that the club

That starting XI isn't bad but there are a number of problems though. In the first one you're going to play an unknown quantity in Jason Naidovski as your starting lone striker? Very bold move IMO. Plus Adam Da'Puzzo, James Holland and perhaps Adam Griffiths aren't in their preffered position.

Once again in the second line-up, you've got an 18 year old kid who's never played an A-League game in his life on the left. I think the loss of Zadkovich could be a result of that though. Having him on the right and Thompson on the left would have been a better midfield IMO.

I still think ATM, you guys will have to relyon Joel Griffiths again for much of next year. Yes Song will be better this year, as will James Holland but I really do struggle to rate that attack as good enough to go back-to-back in V4.

A lack of depth also stands out, even when you include likely in-comers such as Madaschi and the other European blokes. You guys have a very, very young squad and a couple of injuries or suspensions to experienced, crucial players such as North, Covic or the two Griffo's could see in a bit of trouble.

It is only April and we have 4 months to the actual A-League kick-off, but you guys certainly have a lot to do.

I'm just going to ignore that stupid comment comparing Trott to Jardel.

I 've said it before and I'll say it again. Trott will become a better keeper with quality game time... He may never be a Vukovic as he is a different style of keeper and our defenders need to adjust to him accordingly....

I cant think we can claim to have the football knowledge as Lawrie,JC and co to judge Trotts all round influence or standing in the team, all I know is if he is chosen to start he will be supported.
Remember in V1 when we kicked off who had honestly heard of Beauchamp,Heffernan,Wilkinson and co and now look at the esteem we hold them in. I had reservations about Trotty but hes done enough to be given the chance.

We all thought we were screwed when Danny came in too and he turned out to be pretty good ;)

Although I don't remember him letting in 10 goals in 2 games

Don't remember our defence ever being that bad though either.

Funny thing is you can credit Danny and poor defence with some of those goals against Trott, no hand ball no Trott. and therefor he would never have been thrown into the mix down a player to begin with...
