f**k Arnold.

Yeah, he has achieved a lot but let’s put some things into perspective.

1. What talent has the brought to the club? Bozanic - no. Amini - no. Ryan - no. Duke - no. Ibini - no. Rose - I don’t think he did. Who has he brought? Sutton, hearfield, pelles, Baird. (ok I’ll give him Pat Z and a hint of credit for Perez). Clearly talent identification isn't his strongest.

2. Has he improved our football? He is definitely improved our structure and has strategically made us more effective. However, at the same time he has made us ridged and unable to adapt to circumstances. Whenever we try to change our structure it rarely works. This structure makes us hard to breakdown.
We get results, but those results are based on our structure.

In my opinion, Arnold clearly doesn’t give a shit about the Coast and is only in it for personal success - to prove the critics wrong. I'd rather someone who is passionate about the Coast, the team, the fans and is willing to put aside our constraints and not make excuses.

Realistically we can’t compete on money, players and in most cases facilities. If Arnold wants more cash, let him go.

I may get crucified for this, put it's time we brought back Lawrie.

The Russian investor does not live in Sydney he has only been to Australia once.If
the deal happens you watch this club turn around for the better,This guy is a mover and shaker.

The Ruskis that have been in the owners box in the last few weeks are definitely living in Oz. One spends about 6 months of the year in Russia.

Your argument has merit. I think Arnie has done much more than you give him credit for but I don't think it is worth trying to match what other clubs are offering. Particularly with our financial position. I've been disappointed with the whole contract situation and the last few days have just confirmed for me he has made up his mind. The comments in the press, the articles from Gatt and some very ordinary performances....

The only facts i state are in the players brought in or not brought in.

If i am incorrect. Please elaborate.

The rest is my opinion, backed up by what i see week in and week out. We can have differences in opinion which are perfectly fine. Please feel free to post yours.

The only error is your error of judgement before posting that last comment.

f**k off..................Lawrie, are you drunk!!!!!!

Arnie has given us one bad game and you want to slag him. Our structure is miles better under Arnie. He has raised a few question marks in the last 6 weeks but apart from playing Sutton instead of Bernie he hasn't done too much wrong.
The players have dropped the ball...not Arnie.

I agree our structure is miles better - as i have indicated in my comment.

It's not the one bad game. Its been observations over the course of his 2 year tenure.

I would rather someone who is passionate for the region, the team and the fans and is willing to do it on a decent wages and will accept our limitations over a more highly credentialled extortionist.

Arnold doesnt care where he is coaching. He is narcisstic and only wants fame and success and consequently $. The type of person who shows no loyalty. Unfortunely he doesnt get the exposure he want here. We took a risk when we picked him up, and it paid off. The same happened with Aloisi. We took a risk, it paid off and we gave him exposure. As soon as he got the fame, he didnt give a shit about us. I ran into him at Ivy asked why he left. He said "I wanted to go to a bigger and better club".

Lets get one fact straight - we are a poor club relatively and the probably wont change.

We can do one of two things. Live with in our means and find a loyal, semi moderate gaffa who can keep us competitive and give us every chance to win a title in a salary capped league
or
we can contine to delude ourselves that gems like Arnold will come along at every opportunity, we have our success only for them to walk out after they achieve their fame and get as far as they can at our club.

As i have stated before, this is only my opinion. At the end of the day I will turn up and support whoever is playing and coaching us on game day.

TBH this performance could have happened months ago when the financial problems reared their head. Credit to the team that they held it together for so long. The penalty shootout lose has just knocked the spirit out of the players.

There is so much truth in that. The financial problems, which has led to speculation over Arnie, the speculation over the Russians, the loss of Matty followed by Rostyn, has all added to a maelstrom going on behind the scenes. That the team and coaches have been able to keep it together this long is really a mammoth effort.

This week has been shit - but the season has been a success. We have another piece of silverware and will be in the ACL again next year.

The coming weeks will be defining for our club. Some major decisions will be happening. Arnie will be talking to Peter Turnbull about his future and surely we must hear one way or the other about the Russians. In addition we need to turn round the ACL campaign.

My ideal for the next month would be for the Russians to come in, Arnie to stay and a win against Teijan Teda to set up a must win against Nagoya.

If the Russians do come in we really do need to make some key signings to go to the next level:-
- Pedj needs to stay or someone better needs to be signed,
- If Patrick re-signs we still need CB cover - if he doesn't we need another starting CB as well
- A replacement for Rostyn is needed to give Caceres time to develop
- A quality AM, the finished product - not Rogic though I'd love him to stay as an impact player or starting with twin AMs
- A quality striker (a la Smeltz, Berisha) is also needed.

On the flip side if the Russians do not come in and Arnie goes in the coming weeks we will be in for an even rockier end to this ACL campaign and probably will not be able to attract or afford the players we need. We will be doing really well just to maintain our current level. The replacement for Arnie could also be an interesting decision. There's Mossy, Tony, Lawrie, Miron, Mike Mulvey and a few others in the mix.

Interesting times for our club.

Fabio Ferreira trialled with the club against Marconi. A perfect AM and replacement for Musti if we can grab him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%A1bio_Ferreira_%28Portuguese_footballer%29 Apparently MV wanted him but he did not want Melbourne.

Mitchell Duke is on a two year senior contract from next year. If he can replicate what he has done in the Youth League then we should have found a decent striker.

I am probably going to get howled down on this but I don't want Lawrie as a coach. Yes he is an integral part of the Mariners family and we all respect him massively but we need to keep pushing forward and not reaching back into the past. That's not a solution. I'm pretty sure that Lawrie does not want a coaching gig, rather he is looking for a Director of Football gig (ala Western Sydney).

And please spare me with Miron. A disaster waiting to happen. Promote within with Mossy and Walmsley. If they are not suitable then grab Mulvey. What he did in a short space of time with GCU was great.

I agree with you Muppet, especially on the coaching side of things. Lawrie, definitely not, but it would be great to have him back in the fold in some capacity. Miron is too eccentric. Definitely promote one of our existing coaches.

I cant comment on Fabio Ferreira as I havent seen him play.

Duke will probably need time to settle into the A League. He'll either go down the Matty Simon path of not scoring for months on end then all of a sudden it clicks, or the Bernie path where he makes an intial impact then goes through a drought. We'll just have to be patient... again.

I have a feeling that TW is not going to get the gig. I am sure Moss would be great but I think he may want to stay with GA. Corica however at Sydney FC is off next week to spend a few days at Barcelona observing their coaching techniques (sponsored by the FFA)

Miron would be a terrible option. Funny guy but not a quality coach and you only need to read some of the comments from ex GCU players to see that he had no idea.

My first choice would be Mossy and I think we could temp him with the head coach position. Mulvey next and then Walmsley.

I'm a big wrap on Mulvey from what I saw in those few games. Mossy and Walmsley have both been brilliant.

I hope Arnie stays!

If he dogs us then Merrick or Mulvey with mossy as assistant to be groomed for top job in a few years time.
