GA and the Russians

Hmm dunno, I think it's just the way it's written (the GA bit), Turnbull says that they're still in talks, I think it's just the journos "expecting" him to be named Sydney coach, for everyone else I'm thinking it's still "wait-and-see".
Would be nice to not be hunting for investors AND a new coach at the same time...
I'm hoping still

Very positive article and exactly what I would have expected re long haul and COE. A deal in business, especially big business taking longer than expected is more than normal, it's to be expected.

Meh, over it, if he wants to go, he wont put in nearly as much heart and effort as he has the last two years...

Time to dig deep mariners fans

If he goes, he goes; we simply don't have the money but I will be spitting chips if he takes Crawley and Clarky, two foundation players who are much more the heart and soul of the Mariners than Arnie could ever hope to be.

You'd think Turnbull'd be the best placed to convince Arnie not to go to Syd...he was a major stakeholder there til he bailed and bought into Mariners. I'm sure there were more reasons for the change than were given to the public.
That said Syd have changed a lot at the top and a hefty pay-rise and $'s for players must be tempting.
Digging deep might be it after all. The Russians are reassuring and at least we'll likely have some money to dig up another coaching gem if so.

400K is hard to match even if the Russians finalise.

Watching Fox sports excitement talking about it's Arnie vs Ange for the "Big Blue" would make me :vomit: :vomit: :vomit: for at least ten round and the it would be time to put up with it again.

IArnie has my gratitude and respect for what he has done regardless. But I think Sydney will prove a mistake for him as a coach - and wouldn't be surprised if he kisses goodbye to ACL and further OS coaching possibilities as a result.

Telegraph reporting Arnie to Sydney as done.

GRAHAM Arnold will coach Sydney FC next season, after agreeing to cut short his tenure at the Mariners.

A deal with the Sky Blues has been agreed in principle, and Arnold will be formally unveiled as Vitezslav Lavicka's successor - the club's sixth coach since the inception of the A-League - within the next few days.

Sydney's pursuit of Arnold has gone on for months, aggravating the Mariners with whom he has enjoyed spectacular success since joining after the 2010 World Cup.

Though he has another year on his contract in Gosford, Arnold has been owed substantial bonuses making his contractual status far less certain, and it's thought Mariners owner Peter Turnbull won't stand in his way.

It's not clear at this stage whether Arnold's Mariners back-room team of Phil Moss and fitness coach Andrew Clark will follow him.

But his arrival at Sydney will allow the squad rebuilding to resume at full pelt after being on hold since the departure of Lavicka and CEO Dirk Melton, with several players off contract and waiting to know their futures.

Football director Gary Cole will also offer Arnold a list of players he has been lining up as potential signings, with the club having freed up a substantial part of the salary cap through the departures of high earners such as Juho Makela, Bruno Cazarine, Liam Reddy and Karol Kisel.

A major overhaul of the squad and playing style awaits Arnold after two hugely disappointing years at FC.

At least one senior player who had been contemplating his future believes he will be rejuvenated under Arnold who will aim to replicate the strong bond he forged in the Mariners squad.

Turnbull had hoped that the long-anticipated new investment in his club from a Russian consortium would convince Arnold to stay, particularly with the club having reached the Asian Champions League again next season.

But a pay rise of close to 50 per cent plus the challenge of reviving Sydney FC has proved too great an incentive, leaving Turnbull with the task of finding a replacement. Moss is one obvious candidate, while former Adelaide assistant Phil Stubbins is available after the sudden termination of his job coaching in Thailand.

Lawrie McKinna would offer a tried and trusted alternative, though he is favourite to become director of football at the new West Sydney club, which is trying to lure former Socceroos and Sydney FC defender Tony Popovic back from Crystal Palace in England as its inaugural head coach.

If confirmed it brings into question whether Patrick will re-sign or follow Arnie or just go home; and probably means that Rogic won't stay. Has Anderson actually signed? Will Pedj get his wish?

wonder if he will be in charge for Tuesdays game . . .be good to farewell him . . .

I wouldn't think it would be a good idea for him to do so. I reckon he would cop heaps from the fans - me included.

I appreciate what he has done but if, as rumoured, he's taking Clark & Crawley he can get stuffed. He didn't bring them to the club and they have been major players in our, and his, success over the last two years.

CCM provided him with the chance to prove himself in the A-League and surely that deserved some loyalty. Just another reason to hate Sydney even more.

The A-League which is struggling already will not survive if teams keep continually cannibalising each other rather than finding their own talent.

"Arnold who will aim to replicate the strong bond he forged in the Mariners squad."

Rubbish! He came into that. He may have added to it and kept it going but that has been the Mariners spirit for 7 seasons now

I never thought I'd say this but...van Egmond?
I liked where he was going with his team this year, good transition and structure, who knows,
maybe i'm just looking for something to hope for early. if the russians are with us then it will all be ok.

i want to feel thankful to Arnie, and i do, but i also feel a little slapped. Sydney may not be our only foe, but they'd have to be our most bitter, now they're stealing our bling

rant over

oh well
