Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I know Danny should not have done it...
I know Shield was in his rights to send Danny off...

But f**k me that bloke is going to cop some shit when he refs us this year

The way I see it, you're either suspended or you're not - this concept of a break in the suspension was just ridiculous anyway.

But as other people have said why haven't FIFA become involved with other serious incidents? I don't think the fact that this one includes an international match is sufficient explanation.

Do FIFA actually have the power to make this decision? Especially to say that he's allowed to play in the national league, but not internationally?

All FIFA are doing is saying that there is no break in his suspension in terms of International level

If Shield had just called the bloody handball none of this would have happened (or if Danny didn't hit him or if Shield wasn't such a numb nut)

Justice is served.

Taking in to account all external factors (so don't rant at me about Sackwhack - I'll probably agree with you), the punishment handed down was a disgrace.

This sets it in stone - there is to be NO abusing of referees now. And that's a good thing.

Feel a bit sorry for the lad that he had his dream rebuilt and shattered again, but he never should've been near the Beijing squad.

feel sorry for him, but for this ban its only an international ban so dose that cancel out the FFA's one because what would be the point of the spilt suspended period. would this mean that danny could be back before the season starts?

Sadly, there is probably nothing we can do as he looks to have been f**ked over good and proper by the FFA.

(Bow to public pressure and overturn the ban and then let FIFa be the bad guy)

The real villain is Shields who lost it completely and sent him off for what Milligan was allowed to get away with.

Nope - FIFA Ban is only International
FFA ban local

FIFA only has the power to suspend for International...

Greenpole - Shields didn't make Danny hit him (ok maybe he did but......)
Fact is Danny hit him and if anyone on here believes Danny should have got of Scot free then we open up pandoras box.

Fact is when you look at what other suspensions workd wide have been (Di Canio comes to mind) is was 6 games but effectively thats like 4 weeks in EPL....

Thats where the issue is Danny slapped him and got the best part of 6 months (originally 9) and Di Canio pushes a ref over and gets 4 weeks

Whilst gutted for him, simple rule. Dont touch a ref EVER.

Unless you are Milligan and then its just fine.

I'm with Bear here, Shields must cop massive shit next time he is at BT.

Banners that even FOX cant miss??
'000's of brown paper bags distributed to the crowd.
Tar and feathering
etc

Danny slapped Shields' arm like a girl. He doesn't deserve this sort of treatment. The punishment doesn't fit the crime. Add to that the psychological rollercoaster they're putting him through now and I would say they've f**ked it up royally.

This time it's not worth appealing. There's no chance of it being successful and it's getting too close to the Olympics and the start of the season. It will become a disruption to both teams preperations.
I don't think we'll be seeing too many hands on refs this coming season.

Feel exactly the same way Bex.
Yes Danny deserved to be punished, but no one deserves what he has now suffered and the idea that before this FIFA decision that people would feel due to Danny's prior ruling that it's clearly ok to strike a ref is just simply ludicrous.

Feel sorry for danny but on the bright-side when danny comes back, whenever that is, he will still be a mariner and not signed for another club.

What makes you say that? With this massive suspension and no olympics to show himself off at, I think he would be silly not to search for a club overseas now (sheffield united) and train his ass off with them during his suspension. Otherwise he has to try and force his way back into the mariners line up if we sign someone better than Trott, and he has to hope his performances, after nearly a year out of the game, get him overseas.

The FIFA ban only covers internationals. Does the FFA ban only cover FFA tournaments? That is, is he free to trial and play for an OS club?

While it would be good from a CCM point of view to hang on to him as long as we can, I can't help but think that getting away from the Australia might be a good move for him, especially if the FFA ban doesn't apply.
