ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

How is it a disgrace? Really?

The FFA didn't keep FIFA informed, surely people should have seen something like this coming, the ban as is is completely stupid and was just the FFA trying to push their interests so FIFA have jumped in to stop that.

Apparently you can hit referees in Australia and represent your country. Just ask Joel Griffiths & Danny Vukovic.

It's a disgrace because they let Danny believe for so long he was allowed to play whether the sentance is too harsh too lienient perfectly fair watever the whole way it's been handled is disgraceful first the initial ruling think what you like bout that then reducing it.Then inventing the dodgyest sounding sentance ever allowing him to play. Then letting him prepare and enjoy the hype of olympics work his ass off at training then randomly crush him again.

Feel sorry for danny but on the bright-side when danny comes back, whenever that is, he will still be a mariner and not signed for another club.

I feel sick for Danny, but it doesn't suprise me FIFA have intervened.

That was the dodgiest (sp) ban I've ever seen in professional sport. It was bound to wave a red flag.

When I saw this tonight on SBS I thought I was having a bad flashback (is it just me, or did Craig Foster smile slightly as he read the news?)  I cannot begin to imagine how Vukes must feel.  This has made me so angry and I hope Danny knows how many people will be supporting him as he faces this uncertainty yet again.

The statement that aggravated me the most was "FFA will not be appealing to FIFA". What a total COP OUT. The FFA caused this mess by making a punitive and unjust decision in the first place, then after a public outcry, were forced to make an equally bizarre decision to try and show justice had been done.

The FFA should hang its head in SHAME tonight.  I am ashamed to be a football fan when the sport's governing body treats players with such a lack of respect and consistency. Vukovic has been made a scapegoat for the FFA's own failings.

This cannot be allowed to happen. I love the Mariners but I would also be angry if this happened to another A League player (yeah...even him). No player deserves to be put through this trauma and uncertainty repeatedly.

FFA may have abandoned Danny and left the Mariners to clean up THEIR mess but we will not abandon him. We must let the FFA and the public know how wrong this is and give Vukovic all our support. Write letters, ring radio stations, tell Ben Buckley he's gotta step up to FIFA and take some responsibility for the FFA's mistakes.

What makes you say that? With this massive suspension and no olympics to show himself off at, I think he would be silly not to search for a club overseas now (sheffield united) and train his ass off with them during his suspension. Otherwise he has to try and force his way back into the mariners line up if we sign someone better than Trott, and he has to hope his performances, after nearly a year out of the game, get him overseas.

As in he would probally impress at the olympics and a big club would offer him a contract which he probally would take. I dont count Sheffield United as you have a sister club relationship.

On a much much brighter note, that gap in the suspension is still standing which means he will be free to play the first two A-League games against Scum and Shitney.

Thats ridiculous surley they cant let that happen yer it would be good but in honesty that would just fk the team around more i can imagine the conversation "Ok trott work ya ass off prove ya self in preseason then sit out a few week then save our ass for few weeks then move over dannys back again ::)"

Alternativly "oh ok bozza we need you for pre season then you can have a fortnight off and then play the rest of the guess stint" :headbutt: :headbutt: :headbutt:

This is just a mess make a FAIR decision and get it sorted stop screwing around the teams the players and the fans even the fking country :redcard:

If you actually read the whole media release provided by Mick, you would find this:
At the national level Vukovic's sanction continues to apply  to  domestic competition in accordance with the penalty handed down in April by an Independent Appeals Committee comprised of John Sackar QC, Michael Christie SC and former professional player, Jeromy Harris.  The Independent Appeals Committee suspended Vukovic from all games up to 24 June 2008 and from all games from 29 August 2008 25 January 2009 inclusive, with the period from 6 October 2008 25 January 2009 suspended, subject to no further infringement in the period up to, and including 25 January 2009, and also fined Vukovic $10,000.

If you're still having trouble understanding this, it means for A-League games, he follows the ban he received following the appeals.

ha !!!!  they have outsmarted themselves....by including the dates of the suspension, they left the window to allow Olympic matches......but now that the Olympic dream is over, the window is still there....the SBS report says "Mariners chairman Lyall Gorman said the club's legal team would be examining grounds for appeal. "We have got it in the hands of the legal team and they'll have a look at it tonight," Gorman said Tuesday. "  unfortunately if we do appeal, that might give the appeals committee the opportunity to close the loophole that's now been left....

God, I feel so sorry for Danny right now. He must be churning inside.
This whole process has been handled badly from start to finish (or should I say present). Bear is so right - did we really think this was the end of it.

Just heard Lyall on FoxSports

I think Danny is gone - Lyall is already talking about Sheffield and I really think he would be best to stay. He may need 12 months away after this crap. What is really poor is that the FFA will not back the Mariners if and when they appeal (they have 3 days to lodge an appeal)

The way I see it, you're either suspended or you're not - this concept of a break in the suspension was just ridiculous anyway.

But as other people have said why haven't FIFA become involved with other serious incidents? I don't think the fact that this one includes an international match is sufficient explanation.

Do FIFA actually have the power to make this decision? Especially to say that he's allowed to play in the national league, but not internationally?
