People are kidding themselves if they think that wasnt a boring, mistake riddled game of football by both teams. I've seen better football played in park lands. It had me seriously questioning why I'd bother to part again with good money to watch that type of rubish.
The worst game i have ever seen in my life was the FA Cup Final a couple of years ago between Man U and Chelsea; you can't expect every week to have the best football; if you are a true supporter you take the dross with the good because it is the game that gets the bubbles rising in your blood not one particular performance; My neighbour, who I persuaded to come to the ACL games (no worse trio of games has ever been perpetrated at the BlueTongue) has now become a Mariners member and has really enjoyed both home games, he loves the atmosphere, the sense of enjoyment and the excitement on the park; he couldn't give a toss about the so called quality, he just loves football.
Fantastic post.
I love the world game and will quite happily watch two kids verse their dog... so parting with less than a 20 to go into BT looking so prime and beautiful, to yell and cheer with my father and my son for the Mariners is one of the things I now enjoy most in life. Win, lose, draw, disappointing runs, bah! You have to be philisophical as a football supporter or you'll turn into a bitter know all prick in no time from what I've seen. For mine, I love everything from the pre match feeds with family and friends, pulling the colours from the cupboard, walking down the streets crowded in team colours, the buzz of the crowd... I'm even getting a taste for the dodgey burritos ;D But I also truly revel in the knowledge that when I walk into our stadium I know that I am supporting not only my club, but my region, the A league and the growth of football in Australia.
I really do still see this as a "great privilege" because I still regularly think on how lucky we were to get a franchise up here and sometimes just imagine what it would be like as football lover on the coast if CC Mariners never existed over these last five years?? What a massive impact on our lives and such an inspiration to our kids and community. If we play a stunning game of football of course I love it, but it's just a bonus. There's so much more to supporting football than just what happens quality wise on the park for me, that I find it quite a sad idea to only be able to find any enjoyment if my team are managing to carve it up. If thats all that interests spend your twenty on Setanta, plenty of quality around... but cannot even remotely compare in terms of an overall experience and the joy of having a local pro club that you love and get to regularly go and see...
Something that Craig Foster cannot understand... and something I hope most Mariners fans will never lose sight of...
Doesn't matter what we play in the end...
Just as long as we play...
I'm mariners till I die.
Well said !
