That flare: It invokes all memories of the bad reputation of soccer in this country, as in Old Soccer, you know, the one that is supposed to be replaced by New Football. At a time when other football codes are reeling with the negative impact of rape allegations, drunken behaviour and drug use, the Socceroos and the A-League are presenting the cleanest of images, sponsors are signing up for the code in preference to the others because of this clean reputation (Schweppes have just increased their sponsorship deal with FFA). There are plenty out there who cannot accept the fact that football as we know it is entitled to sit at the same table as the other codes. We do not need some moron to give the media any excuse to put the boot in. According to scribes who promote other codes soccer is wogball, the game of Sheilas, Wogs and Poofters and they still have the perception of crowd misbehaviour as being the province of soccer. It is incomprehensible to me how people can be so stupid as to let off a flare at the game. It is hooligan behaviour. This moron should be banned from the game for life

100% right, anyone who defends the flare or thinks it was really cool is just showing their stupidity and ignorance.

Mick I realise the flare may not have been let off by a regular Marinator but there is a disturbing amount of people reacting to it positively on this forum

And are all those people who are reacting positively to it on this forum also marinators? Why are you taring all people who stand in bay16 and comment on an open forum with the same brush? Pre meditated agenda much?

Snap.  Bam.

Clarence - I've heard that was part of the reason.  Also for the visual display such things bring, and the irony of being 5-0 down and celebrating.

Thanx for the reply. No doubt the club will be furious if there's adverse publicity about it, but yeah, the irony of celebrating when your team is down 0-5 is quite a show of spirit.

What adverse publicity?

Did I miss the 4 page Rebecca Wilson penned lift out about sokka wog hooliganz?

A person connected with the people who ripped the flare at ANZ attended the game and repeated it.

I did say, 'if', FFC. "If".

Haven't seen much comment in the press, no doubt they are too busy reporting that the Mariners (we) were a joke on the night!

*Obviously* you're in Tamworth. How could I have thought otherwise, given your forum profile info has you in Kariong? Shame on me.

tbf, he did say in previous posts that he was in tamworth because of work or something

it still doesn't hide the fact that he is totally clueless in his football analysis on this forum

And back in Kariong tonight.

Totally clueless...my analysis..or our Football team.

Mick feel free to contradict me at any time....like Osman is a Gun player and someone whe sould be proud off.  Mick you are loyal but delusional.

If I'm wrong tell me how.

Dido may be a tool as times but at least he offers the occasional informed or original thought.  Unlike you whose comments should have the disclaimer.."All comments are the official view of CCM".

FFS - i've *just got home* from the match, the last thing i want to see is some clueless self-appointed expert to sit and apply half-witted analysis to a match they couldn't be arsed leaving the house to see. wanker.

I am in Tamworth you knob end.

This comment proves you are informed and clueless.

You just have to listen or podcast coastfm to demonstrate what I have said pubically on many of the issues I have brought up here.

And because I have chosen to outlay my comments direct to the sources as well (and have been chatised for it), rather than hiding behind this forum and whinge like the typical stereotype you are portrayed to be, makes me far from the "voice" you so ignorantly stated.

And aside from a terrible game last Wednesday night Osman has done more to pull his weight in the squad than some of the so called favourites. His versatility will be sorely missed next season.

Maybe posting your opinions on this forum would negate any feelings of angst towards yours and most of the mods posts.

No, I haven't downloaded your podcast and quite frankly I couldn't be bothered, so providing an alternative opinion towards the club moving forward instead of refering to another Forum member as "clueless" would be beneficial. Would show a bit more maturity as well. So this leads me to the question:

What should be done to get the mariners out of their current (seemingly never endless) slump?

Never Endless? Maybe you mean never ending? or endless?

We have only been in this slump since January. The slump occured when two things happened. Jedinak left, and Fergie left. When your star player and head coach both leave, it takes time to re-adjust. It looks like Huke may be a capable replacement for Jedi, but of course he won't be as good. Therefore it is up to the other players to step up, or for another good player to be brought in. I for one would prefer a team of good players working well together than a team with one or two star players, with the rest mediocre. This seems to be the route McKinna is taking, although it seems we do have a few too many mediocre players. A few more good players, especially to give the current squad competition for spots, is what I reckon we need on the player front. Nothing too outrageous, like dumping half the squad.
The other problem was Fergie leaving. It does seem like he did more than we thought he did. It could be that the squad were used to Fergie, and the new regime isn't working for them. I don't know. But it does look like something needs to change.

One thing all you nay-sayers should realise is, the club is aware of the problems. Of course they are. They are probably much more aware of the specific problems than we are, due to actually living them, as opposed to watching the results every few weeks like we are. All this talk about wooden spoon next season is rubbish. I doubt any A-League side would have stood a chance against Kawasaki the other night.

Agreed, Kawasaki are way ahead of us.

The issue is that (yet again) our players decided that they didnt want to play.

A gutsy backs to the wall, give 110% effort and you still lose. no one argues with that. The spineless couldnt be f**ked, we will be here next year anyway performance we saw on Weds is what sticks in peoples throats (I suspect)

A few things struck me on Wednesday:
-At 2-0 up Kawasaki had a corner and had EVERY player in and around our box. That's unusual. Clearly they had noticed how we can't defend corners, but still...
-They had us offside in deep positions very often. I reckon they must have noticed that Mrdja and MacAllister are very unsophisticated, that they don't know how to move properly off the ball and when they do move they are easily caught offside. Simon is a different proposition, of course.

I also noticed they shoot at the corners of the goal far more than our strikers do, which is best practice, but Vukovic showed unexpected weakness on the near post. Again was this product of research?

One more thing, Kwasnik's Achilles heel seems to be still there. I don't think we can afford a busy midfielder who loses his head in front of goal. We couldn't in HAL2 and less so now.

Fires in stadiums are very very dangerous. Almost as dangerous are stampedes that may result from the threat or rumour of fires. You can just walk around at half-time to see how badly the stadium is set up for the efficient movement of crowds.
For the tiny amount of transgressive fun flares represent, I don't think they are worth the risk.
Put yourself in the position of being actually personally responsible for safety in the stadium - would you still want flares lit?
