Ballantyne, thankyou for making an actual argument against such things - goodness knows it's warranted, considering the typical anti-flare post was "dickheadz, omg, flarez are stoopid".

Rest assured that before it was set off, people in the immediate surrounds were informed, and even in the moments leading up to it being done, one of the giant yellow flags was moved out of the way to prevent such a thing happening.  Gotta be responsible y'know??

I presented a logical argument against the flare without insult but then serious said "Rest assured that before it was set off, people in the immediate surrounds were informed, and even in the moments leading up to it being done, one of the giant yellow flags was moved out of the way to prevent such a thing happening.  Gotta be responsible y'know?? It was at that moment that 'dickheadz' came immediately to mind.

Surely some people remember how the Bradford fire started, don't they?

From your favourite website, Wikipedia - "It is believed the fire started when a spectator dropped either a match, cigarette or tobacco, which fell through holes in the stand to rubbish which had accumulated below"

i).  Everything flammable was moved out of the way.  End of.

ii). It's hardly going to fall through concrete to a rubbish pile (or a bowling green, zomg) below, is it??

Roy Law - why exactly did "dickheadz" come to mind at that moment??  Were you there to see what happened??

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't Huke playing in the DM position, which was Jedi's spot?
And Isn't Huke also only, at this stage, signed for ACL, when we still have Osman?

... like this...?

It is believed the fire started when a spectator dropped either a match, cigarette or tobacco, which fell through holes in the stand to rubbish which had accumulated below

then this....

Spectators initially felt their feet becoming warmer; one of them ran to the back of the stand for a fire extinguisher but found none. A police officer shouted to a colleague for an extinguisher. However, his call was misheard and instead the fire brigade were radioed.
...
the fire escalated and flames became visible, and so police started to evacuate the stand. The blaze began to spread, the roof and wooden stands were on fire. One eyewitness, Geoffrey Mitchell, told the BBC: "It spread like a flash. I've never seen anything like it. The smoke was choking. You could hardly breathe."[15] One of the linesmen informed match referee Don Shaw, who stopped the game with three minutes remaining before half-time.[13]
...
The wooden roof, which was covered with tarpaulin and sealed with asphalt and bitumen, caught fire.[10] The material combined with a strong wind to spread the fire along the stand creating the impression of a fireball, setting fire to the entire stand.[10][16] Burning timbers and molten materials fell from the roof onto the crowd and seating below, and black smoke enveloped a passageway behind the stand, where many spectators were trying to escape.[10] It took less than four minutes for the entire stand to be engulfed in flames.

sounds exactly like what happened Wednesday night!

The rubbish had built up around the stands for years. There was a certain inevitability about it all due to years of neglect.

I've also heard that police know the identity of the person responsible for dropping it (the cigarette), but have never revealed it.

How does this relate to Wednesday night exactly??  The two situations couldn't be any more different if they tried.....

I'm not going to bag the strikers - they had limited opportunities. They didn't take them, End of

However, the rest have no excuse. Elrich, when he came on seemed to be the only midfielder that looked to belong. If I could make one change to the squad it would be to bring back Bozza.

Danny is usually a decent shot stopper - though he needs to put his hand up for a few on Wednesday. However he doesn't organise his defence - just shouts at them after the mistakes are made.

I've been saying the same thing since Creepy got injured in Season one. We've often  gotten away with it because the opposition lacks the class to take advantage of it. During season one Meggsy took the role and during version two and three it was Viddie. Version four came and without anyone filling the role we leaked goals and continue to do so.

The step up in class was too much for many in our squad. This is where an old head like Bozza's was needed. Bozza not only organises defence but also the midfield. With a better organised defence and midfield our strikers would have more opporunities.

You always build from the back. We don't have a base to build on at the moment and we will struggle against better teams until we do.

In the week of the 20th anniversary of Hillsborough, to try to link a non harmful flare being let off with the Bradford City fire is not only ridiculous, its also in pretty poor taste IMHO.

Can we try to get a sense of perspective here please.

(Mind you, the stairs leading out to the gates near the CCLC scare me shitless when there is a big crowd leaving.)

I am in Tamworth you knob end.

*Obviously* you're in Tamworth. How could I have thought otherwise, given your forum profile info has you in Kariong? Shame on me.

tbf, he did say in previous posts that he was in tamworth because of work or something

it still doesn't hide the fact that he is totally clueless in his football analysis on this forum

Dido may be a tool as times but at least he offers the occasional informed or original thought.  Unlike you whose comments should have the disclaimer.."All comments are the official view of CCM".

This comment proves you are informed and clueless.

You just have to listen or podcast coastfm to demonstrate what I have said pubically on many of the issues I have brought up here.

And because I have chosen to outlay my comments direct to the sources as well (and have been chatised for it), rather than hiding behind this forum and whinge like the typical stereotype you are portrayed to be, makes me far from the "voice" you so ignorantly stated.

And aside from a terrible game last Wednesday night Osman has done more to pull his weight in the squad than some of the so called favourites. His versatility will be sorely missed next season.

Yes Mick,

I'm sure you are very important in your own mind.

I would be interested to listen to one of your podcasts where you offer your opinions on the current problems at CCM.  Please provide a link.

However,  having never heard them I can only comment on what you and others write on this forum.
To me you appear to be an apologist who snipes from the sideline at anyone who has the termerity to tell the truth or criticise the boys.

I love the Mariners but I can't lie and at the moment we are shit and last Wed was all the proof you needed.  As to Osman (who we will have to agree to disagree about) he was diabolical.

As I said b4 feel free to actually tell me when and where my analysis is flawed and if your comments are reasonable i'll listen and maybe change my views....i.e Gumps ....finally agreed that he probably isn't a starting player at his age.

Marinermick,  when you say "outlay my comments direct to the sources as well..." , does this mean you take the comment up with the player you commented on or someone in the club if your comments relate to the club's management of something - or vice versa from them?

If that is so, I'd have to say that's the 'privilege' of the position you have within the football community on the Central Coast, being part of the radio commentary team. Really not something everyone can claim an equality to in terms of access to players or club management there, and I'm not sure if it is fair to be used in any debate with Wombat or anyone else about making views known.

I'm pretty sure someone at the club would get to you much more quicker than if I rang up with some comment about the way the club has performed in the ACL!

In fact, thinking about it, you have a media manager to call direct if you want to talk to someone within the club for a response. We mere mortals sure as hell don't have that sort of contact, and I am also sure if you went up to a player for a chat they'd give you more time and patience than they have with some of us.

I doubt many of us here would bother trying to talk to some of the players or club management nowadays, after being shrugged off with clichd responses, or worse still, plain outright rudeness when approached politely.

And I'm not talking about when they want to be out and about on private errands either...

After a poor game, the players themselves would know how they really went in the game, and no comment from a barrage of unknown forumites is going to surprise them too much anyways.

This is exactly what I am talking about Clarence. People hide behind this forum and just take pot shots at people in the club (players, coaches and administrators) because they feel brave that they don't have to face the consequences of their comments.

I have no doubt that the majority of people here would not have the guts to tell those people to their faces exactly what they post here. In fact, I doubt some people would tell any person face-to-face what they post here because it would come across as extensively cruel, unfair and even deranged.

I have long ago stopped posting analysis on this forum because I would rather have face-to-face conversations with people I know and not have a one-way post misconstrued or deriled by people I do not know. I prefer to discuss the football machinations of the Mariners with people I know that I can have meaningful football conversations with and not with the eternal pessimism that perminates this forum.

And yes Clarence I do have some access to the club that others may not but to say I have better access (aside from press conferences) is just a cop out for people. The club is very much in the community, training times and places are widely know, the club never moves from its admin headquarters from Tuggerah, and  am sure if you make an effort to contact Lawrie (or even Peter Turnball or the General Manager for that matter) they would be happy to discuss any issues or concerns you may have. I even think that if you wrote a letter with your concerns it would be addressed as well.

But we know it will never happen because people are ultimately spineless when it comes to these things and are quite happy to sit in their bunker and take pot shots at the one thing that has ultimately given them a massive amount of passtime and outlet in the past four seasons.
