i'll have you know I had a very enjoyable 7 hours in adelaide (would have been 6 if my plane was on time :p).
My highlight of Adelaide was speaking to my mum on the phone who was in the future :p
oh Great restaurants...and public transport ;)

How do you know Adelaide didnt want to keep him? Maybe he didnt want to live in the worlds 2nd most boring city?

Victory turned down spiranovic. Why would another club turning a player down turn us off?

but to the extent of him walking into our midfield...
our midfield is bad but i was hoping it was that bad :p (nowhere as bad as our defence ;) )

I know that our defence hasn't been amazing, mostly in set piece defending, however DEFENDING starts from the front just as attacking starts from the back.. IMO one of the main reasons that our defence has looked shady is because the job hasn't been done in the midfield as it was say when jedinak ran the middle.

On the flip side, our strikers, mainly nik and dyl have not necessarily looked as dangerous as maybe they are capable, as the feeding (or lack thereof) from the midfield at times has been below par.

On the plus side I am looking forward to the new signings bringing something new to the team and for the boys to become heroes again.. FIRE THE FARK UP!!

Don't want to sound mean but surely Doig will be a squad player for you? Rather than starting week in week out He has technically been released from a League 2 team in England. Surely you should be raising your sights a bit higher????

You'd think that, but the top scorer in this league last season was an off-cut from a conference side.

I hope Lawrie got to see what he needed to... maybe he's thinking Ristic will be a good replacement for Rizzo ;)

I also see that Andrew Gumprecht had a full game. I hope he is a good as his older brother ;)

Finally somone who know what they are talking about.  All these calls for new CBs are rubbish.  They may be slow but their reading of the game is usually spot on.  As UnitedsNo9 says the problem is with set pieces not open play. so it is not usually the CBs fault.

when the CBs drop off their man and watch while he tucks the ball away, it wouldn't matter what's happened in front of them. there are basic things that we've failed to get right. seen us defend a corner lately? neither have i.

Meaning if we sign all players this will be the run on team IMO

               Danny

Wilko    Travis  Chris Doig   Heff

Elrich    Shuke  Griffiths    Bozanic

       Matty    Dejan Zivkovic.

Bench

Goalkeeper ...Redmayne,  Nash

Backs ... Porter , Bojic, Boogs, D'Apuzzo

Mids .. Porter again Caceres, Vukasin Tistic, Kwasnik, Hutch

Strikers   Macallister, Mrdja

Total is 23 players ... and that only Danny, Wilko, Heff, Matty remain in the starting line up from the end of Hal 4... also gives us quite a strong bench.

even though i wished that we would sign all those players, realistically, we will probably only sign 3 more. so the signings for this season would probably be huke, doig, travis, one of the serbs/bozanic/griffiths

good post

also we dont really have a defensive leader
Bozza could have organised us top notch in corner situations etc.
I am hopeful Doig could do same job...
Wilko cant, doubt any of our midfielders would be able to etc.

What a crock of shite.

Our defence has been appalling.........in every aspect.

I think generally our defence has been ok. Though at times hutch/caceras et al are slow at tracking back.

Set pieces is our major problem. Marking and heading are not up to scratch

This i think is the key along with slow traking back as you point out.

Im think it comes down to poor communication and a lack of leadership at the back. They need a c**t, as we have said many times before, to take charge, scream, yell, do f**kin whatever, to get our shape correct and not leave attackers open, especially on free kicks.

Doig brings experience to us and hopefully all those playing around him (as well as coach(s)) will be willing to listen to his views on how to defend.

I dont even think we need a mongrel. Just an organiser who can inspire his troops to mark tightly and go hard for the header at set pieces.

Mongrels can certainly do that

Not closing our eyes at corners and hoping would be a good start.

Unfortunately, if you do it so many times it becomes a natural reaction  :-X
