More to the point, are YOU happy that management are scouring non-league  teams for talent, and looking over someone with a chequered histoty of 10 clubs in 10 seasons?

Yes i am happy that we are looking for talent, from anywhere to be honest. We dont have the ability to do as other teams have done.

To make you feel better, why don't you check out Sydneys back line for next year ATM.

Just because he has played for 10 clubs in 10 seasons does not mean is not worth looking at for us. Its just a trial.

As for the ACL costs, i don't know for fact that the fee (if we even have it all yet) was used for this purpose, but i do know that we certianly did not make any money from the ACL. The costs of travel etc etc had to be paid from somewhere.

Well if you are happy with the club not buying proven A league talent thats up to you.
I for one think  management overlooked many proven players when they were available (who were subsequently snapped up by opposing clubs). As a result we have to take a punt on roughies in the hope that they will come good. (Think McAllister here!).

WHY dont the Mariners have they ability to do as other clubs?
When the league was set up all franchises  were supposed to be financially stable, have a sound business plan ,were provided with a salary cap system to provide equity AND a FIVE YEAR monopoly to become established without further competition. WHEN will the Mariners be able to do as other clubs? Exactly what further aid do management require to be competitive?

You asserted that the funds would have been used to cover  costs such as the ACL but now you arent sure? If you dont know there is nothing wrong in admitting this, but without this windfall, HOW did the club plan to cover its running costs?

Jedinak's transfer fee SHOULD have bought some great players.
If we dont have the $ to MEET (let alone exceed) the salary cap then the club cant expect to put players of the same calibre on the pitch as other clubs.

I have family in the UK who are Northampton fans, mailed me this, hopefully he's right!

'Chris Doig has signed for Mariners from Northampton Town mate. He is a quality player and will really sort the defense out. He has been one of the better players for ages and will be missed by the Cobblers'

Hopefully he's right

I hope you are right too DEEJ. I heard somewhere that he has had some injury problems -is this true (I just hope we havent picked up another Disco Nick)?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Mariners set up as a self sustaining business? Alot of the other clubs out there rely on rich owners/investors who are constantly reaching into their pockets to afford players...just look at Perth this year if you want proof. From where I'm sitting it would appear that the Mariners are doing what they have to in order to remain financially viable whilst we're in a tough economical environment.

At least, thats the way I see things.

[quote author=bato from SFCU]Bonnyrigg has signed the two Serbian CCM triallists for 6 week guest stints.

Apparently Lawrie wanted to see them in game situations so if the paperwork comes through they should be in the squad for BWE's game against Penrith this Saturday.

yeah i think thats true in that we don't rely on our owners to cover all of our debts. we do use them to cover some but i think we are not completly reliable on this income. I woul rather use less funds now and be safe for the future then spend ridiculous amounts of money on players and then lose the club in a few years to bankrupcy. Good post jacko

Not closing our eyes at corners and hoping would be a good start.
Agreed, I see junior sides on Saturdays more organised in defending corners (2 inside the posts, extra man on near post etc). I hope things have changed, but for a while we had no defenders inside the posts. I'm not sure if this is because Danny wanted it this way, but it needs working on.

Yep, thet are supposed to be-my point is that they arent if they need to spend Jedinaks fee to cover running costs. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the salary cap was supposed to even out the relative wealth of benefactors. ( Gold coast is another case).

Is it OK for the fans to do that? I was doing it all season and it seemed to work occasionally  ;D
Yeah I do a similar thing with penalties. although did you start opening them about the time we started to not defend corners?

He passed his medical before signing for us at Sheffield United , if they were signing him they said he would have passed it with flying colours.  All we can do is trust this is a good signing and see how he goes.

How do you know that we received his fee in 1 lump and not via instalments or based on certain performance hurdles?

Are you saying that this is the case? If so please tell all.

It shouldnt matter if there were installments anyway if the club can budget and maintain a cash flow throuought the year. (No one gets their annual salary in one lump, nor do we have to pay  a years worth of bills in one hit).

Whats Ray Parlour up to these days?

Also is Corica locked away by Sydney...he may have been pissed of by his treatment by Bling last season and fancy a change of scenery.  He has always been a fabulous player for them.

You really live up to your name fruitbat. I give up. You know everything.

I could go and reiterate everything i have posted but it does not seem of any use.
Please submit your proposal for a new mariners business model here.
