Exactly, sexuality is irrelavent wombat. Obviously these players are being trialled and if they arent up to grade then wont be signed. I find it a positive that we are trialling half a dozen players, if a few of them are the hard men or creative men we need then its a step in the right direction.

agree with you

it doesn't have anything to do with homosexuality. my point was i don't care if they're flagrantly heterosexual either. it's irrelevant. i just want good footballers.

The point I utterly failed to make..........seemed a good idea at the time.

and i know where you're coming from, all good,

Statistically, there's a chance that there is already at least 1 gay footballer in our squad. But that's not the point.

Couldn't care if a player was a goat masturbator from Taliban controlled Afghanistan, if they can play football better than the players we currently have, we need them (oh, and if he can leave the local goats alone for a full season  ;) ;D ).

and i agree with you too.

actually, given we've had somewhere in the order of 40 players pass through the squad if we count short-termers and all that, we probably have or have had about 4 players who aren't strictly heterosexual. and i couldn't give a flying f**k, they can chase romance wherever they like, so long as they don't break the law and they don't scare the horses (to paraphrase someone whose name i can't remember).

You know how we get told sometimes that the forum is read by the players?

Imagine the looks at each other in their communal shower the next time at training after they've read this - no one will be game to drop the soap! Bet Kwassi does a goat bleat and has everyone in stitches.  :naughty: ;D

according to lyall in tomorrows express Q&A, we have "discontinued" discussions with mile, hmm is that lyall of old where he denies/ rejects that we've signed the player but yet we end up signing them. But TBH i wouldnt be surprised if we didnt sign, we have hardly any money and he may wanna stay overseas.

Perth Glory has reportedly signed Socceroo star Mile Sterjovski from Derby County in a $700,000 a season deal.

Sterjovski, who just completed his second season at the Premier League club which is managed by Nigel Clough, will join another high profile Socceroo in Jason Culina in the move back to the Australian domestic competition after a lengthy period playing overseas.

The signing of Sterjovski as the marquee player for the 2009-2010 A-League season will be a huge boost for the Perth club, which has struggled in the first four seasons of the Australian competition.

No he is not! I wouldn't pay Mile Sterjovski $700K. He is not marquee status and for that money he can go to Perth. The club really needs a player in the marque position to put bums on seats and Mile wouldn't do that. Yorke, Bosnich, Scholes, Viduka, Neville and Giggs (Or any player to play at the top level in a strong European league who has only a season or two left) are all players we should be looking at rather than Mile.

:postcount:

Mile is hardly Marquee status. Would rather spend some money on All night Dwight and also bring him on as a coach. If we are seriously chasing a Marquee (and the report I heard on the news was we are) then we need a name who can not only put bums on seats but also entertain and help the team rebuild. Yorke could be that type of player and as we can shuffle his wage around he can probably be accommodated under the cap and a marquee also signed....best of both worlds???

And how do u suggest we pay for these types of players? Lyall stated that mile is out of our financial capabilities...and the players you want would want in excess of 700k

WTF we offer Aloi$i much more then 700k. And he wasnt maquee status.

That was over 12 months ago and the reported 'offer' was more for Aloisi to get more from Sydney than it was for him to stay with us. If you remember, we withdrew from negotioations with him quite some time before he signed with Sydney. He asked us to keep it quite that we were not interested/couldn't afford his demands, so as to inflate his price at Sydney.

Get your facts right.

Disagree - I think it was widely recognised that Dwight was willing to accept less than the $700k mark.... and if LM is on the radio saying they are looking O/S as well as at CURRENT Socceroos then I suggest they have more than $700k to spend

Singo paid for loloisi

Mile is a quality player and worth 700k

But to be honest I dont think he really plays where we need players, unless we are going to play him in the middle of the park

Looking and signing are two completely different things. Just remember we have more than one spot to fill. How far do you think lets say $1 mill will go spread across 6 players.

Explain what you mean by "he wasn't marquee status". I thought he was definitely marquee status. He was doing a great job for us. Banging in goals, putting bums on seats, improving the profile of the club... I couldn't have asked for more really.

Technically he wasn't as he was an injury replacement..... but yes I agree he was Marquee

$1mill across 6 players is $166k per annum each.  Some will be more some less.... For example if Lewis or someone like that was put into the squad at say $80k you could add Dwight at $250k + a coaches salary.... All options need to be explored and I am sure that LM and LG are exploring these options...

at the this level + considering the players we have I would play him down the middle (off the target man)
