there has been plenty of smoke - travis (now confirmed), the other sheffield lad, doig, sterj, the new caladonian captain, the two serbs, some state league triallists

we only have five positions to fill

Exactly... all at this early stage. Should be plenty of action (...or at least a lot of talk) around July

What about ALL NIGHT DWIGHT!

FORMER Manchester United forward and ex-Sydney FC star Dwight Yorke has been released by English Premier League club Sunderland.

Yorke, 37, was out of contract at the end of the season and the Trinidad and Tobago international has been told he will not be offered a new deal.

He made just eight appearances for the Black Cats this season, with his final match coming against United at the Stadium of Light last month.

Yorke won the Champions League as well as three Premier League titles during his four-year spell at Old Trafford.

as a striker or a holding mid?   ::)

I think as holding midfield but he will probably not want to play there.

If not maybe attacking mid. A 90 minute Carceras and Yorke playing behind a fit Matt Simon would be quite mouth-watering.

At the end of pool games in the world cup he led the competition for completed passes. Was actually quite outstanding in that holding role in the WC playing against the world's best.

I reckon the 3 years that have passed since the WC are huge at his age and therefore i doubt his ability to play midfield week in week out. He would be a fantastic signing in my opinion but would need to be used as an impact player in midfield or as a lazy goal poacher. An added bonus with this signing would be his knowledge and experience would help to shape matty simon's game (a better allround footballer), and to introduce Nik and Dylan to the back of the net.

If we signed him up we could pay him a low playing wage and suppliment it with coaching wage.... I'd sign him up before Sterj but many may not. Fact is if this year is a rebuilding one we need to get bums on seats and no offence  but sterj isn't going to have the same impact with the bums on seats that all night would......

agree that Dwight would bring more bums to Bluetongue than Sterj would (might get them away from the station and Kibble Park), plus with his experience he'd be a huge asset in bringing on the rest of the squad.  who knows, he could even make Hutch look good.  it would be great to have both Dwight AND Sterj, but given the money situation it's unlikely we'll get either of them.

Carney put up for transfer

DAVID Carney heads for Socceroo camp this weekend having been placed on the transfer list by Championship club Sheffield United.

The left-sided player has struggled to make an impression under Kevin Blackwell and spent the latter half of last year out on loan to Norwich City.

It remains to be seen how many A-League clubs decide to test the waters and make United an offer.

Carney, Yorke, Beauchamp, Sterjovski. If we get one of those ill be extatic, 2 would be a dream but sadly i have this feeling that we won't get any.
