Central Coast Mariners Squad for 2009/10 HAL Season

Is there a list somewhere that I just can't see of the full current squad?

I'm just trying to figure out exactly how many spots there are to fill, and a rough guesstimate of what's left under the cap, including marquee and u/23 marquee spots.

I'm starting to really get curious as to what this club may have up their sleeve, or whether they will even fill the cap, or use the marquees. At the moment, i would say this squad is way off the pace, and they are certainly leaving it late.

They may indeed surprise me, but atm I don't think it bodes well.  ???

Although it is entirely possible they were always going to wait til the end of the ACL group stage to make their move.

I think the current squad would be

Mathew Nash
Andrew Redmayne
Danny Vukovic
David D'Apuzzo
Dean Heffernan
Nigel Boogaard
Andrew Clark
Alex Wilkinson
John Hutchinson
Pedj Bojic
Shane Huke
Bradley Porter
Adrian Caceres
Adam Kwasnik
Dylan McAllister
Nik Mrdja
Matt Simon
Ahmad Elrich

That leaves 5 spots including possibly a Youth Marquee and a Marquee

Assuming we are after Sterjovski then the other spots should be looking to harden up the CB and DCM areas and add a little more creativity.

Of course we do need $$$ available to do anything.

Thats ridiculous if clarky signed a 3 year contract!!
He's getting on and should be made a permanent fitness coach. He doesn't have it anymore im sorry. The only thing he has got is fitness and his crosses last night were woeful. If it is true, its a step in the wrong direction regarding deadwood. I think he has one season left in him at the most. The league has surpassed him.

I got the impression it was a 3 year contract as conditioning/fitness coach, and he is available as a squad member only if required......

There werent many others putting in the effort he did last night (Kwas probably).

I'd rather see 11 totally committed players giving everything that the disjointed half arsed efforts we have seen lately.

I could live with the results better if they all actually tried

So with the lack of effort by our boys do you still feel we will finish above Scum this season coming???

Last season the Jets finished last, we made the play offs. Our defence of course was crap. The Jets signed three central defenders and conceded just 5 goals in 6 games to make the last sixteen of the ACL. We signed no defenders and conceded 13 goals in 6 games. The good news is we are talking to Mile Sterjovski, an attacking midfielder. That should solve our defensive problems...

Can't agree with you this time Fulham. Clarkey is the perfect example of whats wrong with the Mariners atm.
He doesn't have the confidence or the quality to overlap...which is a fullbacks job and he is positionally very suspect. In the first half he left a Chinese player completely unmarked in the box and Elrich had to try to salvage the situation and we could have been 1.0 down at that stage.  His crosses were also terrible Tuesday night as was his shot...poor technique.
Normally he also fails to close down players and ball watches.
His effort is good because fitness is his only weapon.  Great bloke but wasn't really good enough in season 1 let alone 3 years later.

The truth is that the club has probably been talking to a lot of players in recent months, but the FACT is, we haven't signed anyone to gain great confidence in.

Sure, we signed Huke who was a great relief to see at DCM doing well enough to get a gig this upcoming season. But Rizzo was a flat failure and Kwassi - for all his heart - was return to the future!

The club has yet to get to grips with the youngsters they expressed interest in, and if one of them gets impatient they may end up signing for a NSWPL team or worse yet, signing for another NYL team.

Sure, we may be in talks with Sterjovski, and we may even be in talks with Lucas Neill or Muscat or any other defender of note. But talk is cheap, the real thing we want to hear is signatures on a contract, from a  name player or two.

Something to get folks thinking that the worst is behind the club and we are moving ahead with plans to win something next season so we can get back to an ACL campaign and erase this last one's from our memory banks. Otherwise, a lot of folks may shuffle their feet when the renewals go out and a lot of reluctance to go to games until they hear of better performances.

I agree that there is still a lot of dead wood in the CCM squad and I hope we get some good news of new signings soon, but, in regard to the Mariners NYL team - how is it being formed. I have been told that it is an U/18 Scholarship now, not the Senior and Junior squads of the first year. Is this true? What about players over 20? Is anybody really looking at our "local" players at all?

Two words: Daniel Severino. His European club CV is not impressive (it include stints in Iceland, Malta, Swedish Second Division and Serie D) but is ball distribution is simply outstanding. He made a return from Europe and turned out for Bankstown City against Sydney FC last night - interestingly enough Greg Owens also signed and played for Bankstown. What he lacks in defensive work effort, he more than makes it up in his ability to put in a through ball to a striker or a pin-point long ball to switch the point of attack. Severino is also the best set-piece taker in Australian domestic football - bar none.

For years I used to be a critic of his effort and workrate on the pitch, but Severino wins games from set pieces and through balls, it's as simple as that. He's the type of matchwinner that our squad is missing on the pitch. He recently trained under David Mitchell at Perth Glory so I just hope it's not too late.

Given that the European window opens in June there is likely not to be any announcements until then.

How about we wait until then before putting the knife in.
