They let gumps go but are keeping Disco Nik?

WTF

mrdja had a clause in his contract that he was offerred a year extension if he played a certain amount of games in season four

therefore he has to be offerred a year

whether he takes it or not is another matter

If he wants to repay the mariners for what they have done for him than he would not even consider taking that year.

On the other hand if he wants to play football this coming season he would be stupid not to enforce that deal. Hard choice. Take the deal and suffer deludes of abuse if he does not score regular goals (will probably cop abuse no matter what). Dont take the deal and play state football.
who gave him that contract?! the most unreliable player in our history - reminds me of some over 35's players i play with - always injured or missing in action!

Hutchinson, Wilkinson, and McKinna are all under contract...players released are not. It is the correct decision to release Gumprecht,he represents yesterday not tomorrow. Despite the supposed clear out only three names are added to those who have already gone (Jedi, Osman and Petrovski). Rizzo can not be called part of a clear out. We have already signed Huke and Kwasnik and offered terms to Sheff Utd res. Nick Travis. Hardly gets the blood racing about the replacements does it? And what's the situ with Mrdja? And if you are a young kid who hopes to play for the Mariners in the future, well, just forget it.
Until Hutcho goes i won't spend another $ on a ticket. Wilko must be on thin ice, however i think the players around him are more to blame. Any decent young kid might as well go and trial at any other club; McKinna insists on not giving them a descent go.

I think Disco will be more useful to the Mariners if they sold him to a glue factory. That way at least we would make money off him.

I think a lot of us here would nominate the National average basic wage as the contracted salary, less proportional deductions for every game missed through minor injury. I'd be happier if he just f**ked off.

And yes, I know we have both Dylan & Matty potentially injured for the start of the season, but frankly, I'd be spiteful enough to an oxygen thief like Mrdja to not even consider him if he's needed. If he does agree with terms let him run around in NYL games for all I care about the dickhead.

To that end, we anticipate being in a position to announce some exciting player signings in the short-term future as we step up our campaign to maintain and expand on the heights that we have scaled with incredible consistency since our inception."

Are we now the new Spurs or Newcastle United? - vague promises until season ticket renewals are out and then a few crap squad fillers

Ha ha ha, good analogy FFC. I doubt my Treasurer of the Household Budget will fall for that one..... I'll be renewing, however, there's doubt about others that I had with me last season however.

And if they announce a crap squad I may equate the level of season ticket with the squad's potential and go back to GA!

Particularly if no one else I had gone to Football with, would want to go if it meant boring draws or getting smashed by teams that are red hot (I know, I know they are part timers & bandwagoners I rib them about that all the time, but it's their money and I'm not paying for them!).

sad to see gumpy go but i don't think he is up to it still. however would have liked mrdja and hutch to be let go to, stupid contracts

Zola/West Ham want 19 year old Freddie Sears to go out on loan next season to get game time. (http://www.whufc.com/page/News/0,,12562~1661325,00.html). This kid is a striker with a bright future and is an England U19 & U20 international. He will probably go on loan in the second or third tier in England, but i think he's the type of player we should be trying to nab.

Career to date -
West Ham United - Sears joined the club as a schoolboy at the age of eleven. After beginning the 200607 campaign as a regular substitute for the U-18s he soon forced his way into contention with his goals earning him a starting berth. His chances of realising his hopes took a major leap forward in the 200708 campaign with a prolific run for the U-18s - including a hat-trick against Millwall in October 2007."

He made the jump from youth to reserve squad in the 20072008 season after a run of 20 goals in 15 games and impressed youth team coach Tony Carr sufficiently for Carr to predict that a first team appearance was a possibility.

He had scored 25 goals in 24 matches for the youths and reserves in the 2007/08 campaign, and just signed a new deal with the club before he played his debut game for West Ham United against Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League on 15 March 2008, aged 18. He came on for Nolberto Solano in the 75th minute and scored his debut goal, securing a win, with a diving header in the 81st minute, just 5 minutes and 16 seconds into his first team career.

England Youth Squad - has made two appearances for two goals representing England's U19 & U20 squad.

that would be great but not gonna happen

I do find it strange that Rizzo wasn't given a start in the dead rubber last night, he hasn't really been given a chance to earn a contract extension. The others have all proven they are not worthy (Gumps not included - just a few yards slower than he needs/used to be)

Re: Sears.
Potentially too young to travel so far away from home, and I'd doubt the club would have the resources to look after him properly. Musc**t, Culina and Tiatto would eat him for breakfast.

I suspect Rizzo was cut off being an easy target to show some progress for this "clean sweep out" of the Mariners, whatever they say, note this page and quote me when im proved wrong, but i promise you, next seasons starting lineup will be disturbingly similar to the one we saw getting beaten for the last 5 months....

Hutch and Mckinna have a father son type of relationship, i have no idea what experiences they have shared together to come so close, maybe its Hutch's dressing room influence or his prankful nature but his name is more or less hard coded onto the master template of the starting lineup before any pen gets put to it!

This "mateship" that Lawrie has with the players is a double edged sword, they love him and he loves them, its great for morale and tenacity when trying to grind out a result, but when it comes to the hard inevitable words of "your not good enough any more" it will always suffer a pre-emptive cut off by words more along the lines of "remember that time we....."

Such is the life of a blue collar team in a blue collar town, cheers mate!

and you know personally of this "mateship" between lawrie and the players do you?

i have seen completely the opposite

do not mistake lawrie's affable nature to that of being too close to the players because it is simply untrue

Don't know it personally but if i was a betting man i would put my money on "mateship" being the reason behind favouritism in the club, how else would you explain it?

Not too close to the players? Looking at the similarities between the old NSL clubs he was affiliated with and the Mariners starting lineup is enough to suggest that he is damn close and damn loyal...

Loyality is an admirable trait and different from being too close.

Besides, I still do not know what you are getting at about Lawrie because almost every single player coming off contract has been released by the club in response to the decline in performance.

All other players are on contract.

The problem with that Marinermick, is that you can view that as either a clean out in response for poor performance of the club over the last 6 months or a clean out of players who had not been able to play in the first team.

Bear in mind that a number of contracted players have played all the way through this poor performance period, without a hint they'd be benched. A few of those were in poor form but for whatever reason they were kept in the starting lineup and others not used to bench them. It does hint of favouritism, it does hint of a lack of creativity by the Manager, it does hint that we had no faith in players not making it into the first team to have a better go of things than those out of form.
