Rizzo cant cut it at Perth,  Kwas cant cut it at the 'Nux and Shane Huke has been released by a few league 2 sides already... i can see our opposition shaking in their boots

is our club really that afraid to sign a skillfull overseas player like cassio and hernandez, instead were lumped with plodders who cant add much to the team.

for the sake of being fair ill reserve judgement on shane huke but ive seen plenty of rizzo and kwas to know we should be aiming MUCH higher

Unfortunately we have no idea who they were after. But surely tobin needs to return to sao paulo and find us a skillful am/dm to dictate play

So at this stage, next seasons best XI is:

Danny

Pedj Wiko Boogs Heff

Elrich Hutch Porter Caceres

Dylan Matty

Good solid side but wont win anything as that MF isnt gonna scare anyone.

Kwas, Huke, Rizzo and Disco as back ups

I'm wondering if our best XI might not look a smidge different.

They'll line up a bit like this:

          Danny

Pedj Wilko Huke Heff

Elrich Boogs Porter Caceres

        Dylan Matty

Boogs is simply screening across the front of the back pair. He's 'the new Mile', except he probably passes better but isn't as big a threat in attack. He's possibly the best option for a very deep-lying DM for us, so it's almost a 4-1-3-2

But then in attack it changes shape:

          Danny

      Pedj Wilko Huke

            Boogs

Elrich Caceres Porter Heff

        Dylan Matty

Just like in 05/6, Heff wraps around, the back 4 becomes a back 3. Heff's not in the team for his defence (heaven help us if he was), he's there for attack. Caceres should be looking to become an extra striker. When the ball's coming from the left, Elrich should be looking to advance his position as well to create extra options. We should be attacking as flexibly as possible, especially when you've got Dylan up front who can receive balls under pressure and then offload.

huke is a defender?

Apparantly when Lawrie 1st asked Huke what position he like to play, his response was "anywhere". Lawrie said no really, where do you want to play, and Huke said "anywhere".

Seems to me like he is hungry for the chance to impress, and thats what we need in our squad atm, players wanting to actually be out there and pushing the usual starters for a spot.

we've actually used boogs there (against adelaide, where he was very very good i though), while i haven't seen pedj used there (bearing in mind i've been overseas for a big chunk of this season).

Pedj hasn't played midfield, Boogs did play that one game and also played there against the Jets last season when we were short on numbers (he got concussed that game).

But Pedj can pass the ball, can get forward, and is more mobile than Nigel, making him a theoretically better option in midfield. I assume this is where Jaza is coming from.

In reality they both have strengths for DM and it depends on the teammates, the formation and the opposition.

If I had to choose I'd have Pedj in midfield simply because Boogs is the better defender.

Jack of all trades hey... Master of none.

Just the type of player we need ::)

I'm an ex pat from Bradford (Huke was loaned to them) in the Uk and spoke to family just recently and they can't even remeber him playing for them. Not a good sign

And  why the f**k would Lawrie not know where to play him. So he's signed a player who's being loaned out to Conference teams (aka East Gosford versus Ourimbah standard) and he doesn't know where to play him... Well done Lawrie

lol
Huke was never loaned to bradford and also the current a-league player of the season failed at conference level so its hardly fair to compare it to local leagues here

because maybe he now has in mind his preferred position as huke had trained and trailled with the club before signing. ;)

And once again, farken form your own opinion of him once seeing him play instead of just looking at his past clubs. You realise the leagues current JW medalist came from conference....must be a shit kunt ay?? ::)

This is what I was getting at.

That and the fact he did some DM at Northampton. To me, Boogs is just a stopper. Typical big #5.

Definately agree bojic the choice for dm. I thought that would jump straight into lawries reckoning. He can distribute, and is a solid tackler

oh Bedford...sorry miss read a previous post. No wonder they never heard of him.

Have you ever seen him play? I assume not

From what I have been told he's very enthusiastic, strong and prefers to play in the middle of the park.  The reason why he said he will play anywhere is because he wants to play football and be given a chance in the HAL.

As said earlier, Smeltz played at AFC Wimbledon in the Isthmian league premier season, the 7th tier of English football.  He also had failed spells at Halifax and Mansfield, 2 goals in 36 games.

Point is watch the guy play, then make an opinion!
