No disrespect to Rizzo, but how many bloody average midfileders do we need????

Had this convo with Tyson the other day

Would you prefer we hade 30 blokes in our asia squad who were all expecting to start every game? Can you imagine the hostility in the shed if that happened

Fringe players like Rizzo are needed, to keep the starting players on their game

Looks like we intend to have 2 players for every position where squad numbers allow

LM - Rizzo & Caceres
RM - Elrich & Kwas
CM - Hutch & Gumps
DM - Huke & ??
CB - Wilko, Boogs, Stringers & ??
Strikers - Dylan Matty Disco & ??

So I deduce that the next 3 signings/promotions from the yoof will be CB, DM & Striker

one thing about CCM is they play it close to the chest. But they need to find someone young with speed. Maybe a Robbie Kruse type runner(he's unhappy at Roar)
Actually we need probably 3 or 4 of these kids so the defenders get some training at speed above draught horses and this type of player will be the best thing Matt and Dylan can get.

I remember watching this guy as a youngster on afew of these oldddd liverpool vhs videos i have, he looked the goods then, not sure whatever happened to him but i remember hating playing against him at Perth, purely because he was an angry little bitch, will be interesting to see what he can bring to the mariners, maybe some spirit and hunger at the very least!
the same nicky rizzo that didnt actually appear for liverpool?
you must have had some very exclusive videos

They were Liverpool videos, he did actually play for the club, just not first team, saw him in action and in training so yes, it is the same Nick Rizzo...

f**k me dead. Any defenders out there or are we just chasing shit midfielders to complement our current shit midfield.

Vote 1 _ No confidence in the board.

Does anyone have any idea of the ticket pricing for the ACL?

Just found this in another thread...

Central Coast Mariners fail to sign big names ahead of Asian campaign

CENTRAL Coast Mariners have failed to reel in any big fish for the Asian Champions League.

Mariners were confident that one or two notable players would be found through sister club Sheffield United but when registrations are lodged with the Asian Football Confederation deadline Monday, the Coast won't have an entertainer and they are badly in need of fresh faces.

Adam Kwasnik is rejoining Mariners after Wellington Phoenix released him, but he's hardly a big name and will just cover the loss of Sasho Petrovski, who will play for Newcastle in the ACL.

(the next part interests me)

Even if the Mariners were to make the final 16 - and that seems a tall order going on their form in the A-League over the past month - they can't add to the playing roster once it is submitted to the AFC.

Mariners are low on confidence after four straight losses, including Friday's 2-0 defeat to Queensland in the first leg of the minor semi-final at Gosford.

I thought names could be added after the group stage? Can someone confirm plz?

You expect it to be an issue Bear? I admire your faith mate

Maybe we are saving up for a big splash in V5 or we are skint

They were apparently confident for big names so that implies that there was perhaps cash to spend...

Incompetant maybe?

You own liverpool reserver team training videos from 1996-1998
I commend your love of the club

They were like a video diary sort of thing that Liverpool released every month, very similar to what the Mariners did last year except was on VHS and went for over an hour, they would often have interviews with the "up and coming" players and low n behold, our very own Nick Rizzo was one of them when he was allegedly pushing for first team selection after some red hot performances in the reserve team, showed good footage of him scoring goals and i remember he had a nice left foot on him.

If we end up signing him i will make the effort to find the old videos from the garage and upload them so we can have a look at the potential Nick Rizzo once had and could potentially recapture, he is a very interesting talent, either very highly over-rated as a younster or very under-rated as a mid-20s squad player, hopefully we shall see...

Not a very good informative circle then

Another scoop by Wilson

wrong - kwas was not joining at that point in time and was in negotiations with more than 1 club, the contract was only signed last week.

you said he was coming back 100% and that was not the case

no he said it was 100% that he was coming back, at that point in time that was far from the truth.

Either way who gives a f**k, he signed on Friday for ACL plus 2 years.

All the Mariners need is a coach (to finally replace fergie) who has played midfield and has an understanding of tactics. Every team we play know that we will not change our game plan (sorry LM did in last game against Adelaide) and the game is predictable.
Problem is that we do not have any players with that acceleration (Taj, Ruka, even archie)
that can break the line ,our strikers are all similar and adrian does not pass  as well as cant shoot (watch him practice before a game ) this lack of speed within the team is what our defenders need to train against as the strikers are too slow and fairly predictable.
However they are like that because of the tactics they are given.
Biggest problem is poor choices in the mid field. Owens came as a cripple. A player spot wasted.
Gumps and AC similar types, buzz around for five minutes and then make wrong decisions Hutch! hutch is a bludger and cant defend. When you watch these players from the side of the ground you see they  cant keep up with the speed and thats why they make rash  passes or have the  ball stolen
We need another fergie type trainer

I was always of the idea that players could be added at the end of the group stage to ACL squads.

Good to see Kwasaldinho back
