Pedj would probably be OK, but fair play to Kwas - he stepped up and hit it on target. It's in the lap of the Gods then.

I thought Pedj would have been a shoe in. He takes the free kicks when they are shots on goal, so why not the spot kick? Seems weird to me. You want your best dead ball shot taking the spot kicks, so why then does Kwassie not take the free kicks?

Poor form i reckon, no-one should be looking around at all when that situation arises and it should not be left up to someone to put their hand up. It should be decided before the season kicks off as the free kicks have been.

Oh well, another one that got away. Thats four points.

People are forgetting Kwas was our penalty taker in season 2? Think this covers all our penalties (scored) in seasons 1-4. Pity there isn't a stat for missed/saved pens ... none that I could find anyway. Seem to remember Mrdja having a crack at one point and slotting it neatly into Brisbane Water and not getting another go.

Kwas missed one against Adelaide on the final round at home in the 2006-2007 season. Kemp handball in the box. Kwas hit the left upright and rebounded away.

There we go. Scored four, one missed, one saved - ~66%.

Up to Saturday though it was scored four, one missed - 80%.

We can all be wise after the event, but if Bolton went slowly/the other way it's a goal.

I'm not sure that he's playing that well at the moment - a lot of iffy passes and choices and then he pings in a beautiful long pass. He's inconsistent at the moment - when he's good he's very very good but when he's bad...

How did this differ from Kwas before he left to NZ? He is the most irratic player. Haven't see him do anything this year yet which warrants us picking him up as a NZ reject!!!

I don't think its about his record or what might have happened. Things change, he had as of Saturday morning, more than 2 years in between drinks at the spot, closer to 3. Why would he get the duty when he is not the best dead ball shot in the team? 0 - 0 in extra time against a favourite for the premiership is not the time to shake off the cobwebs.

I heard that the last dead-ball kick taken by Pedj was shot down over the Timor Sea  :D

He sure did.

Never really understood the stick Kwas gets, he probably works harder than most players we have. so he missed a penalty, it happens to all players.

No, that was a ball kicked by someone else (maybe Mrdja during training?). Pedj's is still being tracked by the International Space Station!

+1.

At least Kwassi TRIES, I bet he's been cut up about this saved penalty all week.

I know, I know, he's a professional and he should've nailed it, but Bolton read the direction and flight of the ball too well. That's what happens in one-on-one Football.

As I said in an earlier Thread, if Bolton had gone over the top of ball and misread the speed of the ball we'd be hailing Kwassi a bloody messiah.

Penalties are different to free kicks. With free kicks you're not expected to score. Putting away a penalty is regarded as scoring half a goal but putting a free kick away is seen by many as almost more than a regular goal. The mentality of it is completely different.

As for having had two years between drinks from der elfmeter, the people who've taken them in the intervening time are (as we've seen above) Aloisi, Owens, Petrovski and Jedinak. Which of them should have taken it in his place?

Kwas clearly gives a shit and he busts his arse every time he takes the field. Some things come off, some don't. At the moment he's below his best form but even still played some stunning through passes on Saturday of which we should have made better use.

If we're looking for a wide midfielder to sling shit at, the bloke on the other wing has his head higher over the parapet at the moment and he's already copped a few in this thread with good reason.

To be fair it was his first start and I agree with whoever it was who said that he looks gun shy.
Very common for a player returning from a severe long term injury. He requires time and trust, he must be showing something at training or he wouldn't be getting on the park. Heff has also taken a long time to come back to form IMO and also Danny with no injury saga but an easily comparable amount of stress and missed games. But they've got there and I believe Ahmad will too.

On the new triallist...
Is he here yet Mick?
Is he here yet?!
Is he here yet?!

Kwas did more in the ACL then most players on the team.
As well as bustin his arse up and down the sideline. He looks really dangerous coming thru later following simon IMO.

Dmac should have scored again this week. But our shape and general play was so much better as soon as he came on.
