Hi all.

First post! Have to say, great site - I finally signed up so I can join in on my favourite pastime...talking all thinigs MARINERS!!!

Reading this thread, I would agree that the positions we need to fill are: a CB, creative CM, and GK...which takes the squad up to 22 I believe??? Anyways, scanning 442, I came across this artice:

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/79633,epl-stars-available-for--free.aspx

In true 442 form, the title is misleading and they are not really EPL stars, more CCC which i have been following for a few years now. However, a couple of the payers did catch my attention. Inigo Idiakez who i think is 34 was released by Southampton. About 2 years ago, this guy was probably one of the best creative midfielders going around in the CCC, was a regular first teamer with Southampton this year. Former Spanish youth international, would be a great pick up for us. I reckon he would kill this league. Also Seb Carole from Leeds. I think he'd be a decent pick up as well. Very quick, good dribbling skills, and can play upfront as well. Wouldnt be a bad replacement for Kawsnik. Wouldn't mind seing Joseph Desire-Job here either if Mrdja doesnt come through.

Obviously, money and salary cap would be an issue, but perhaps move someone under the u23 player cap? Im not sure about what players are on, and i think others here have a lot better knowledge than what i do on this.

Anyways, they are just a few thoughts. My feelings about this season are a bit mixed. I think our first starting 11 is quite strong, but if injuries kick in, i dont think the quality is there in our back up players to mix it with the rest of the league, not this year.

Joseph Desire Job ??/  former middlesborough Player i believe he was  a winger? or fulback can exactly remember . nothing special IMO although if he is a wing  must be better the elrich .

the sydney boys think bojic played well for sutho against. the coaching staff at the sharks dont think they will keep many of their younger players. many have been approached about youth contracts. hopefully we have made some offers

Can't say I have seen Bojic at all but from what I have read he's been 1 of their stand out players all year, the Sharks are also undefeated in 26 games.

That should not be a problem, the youth league is specificall outside the state leagues so as young players can play in both and get much more experience

Just read that Owens is out with a back injury (source: Bearinator in Van Stratten thread below), and that O'Grady has an achilles injury (same thread).

Looks like V2 all over again, so I may as well kick off an Injury Thread so we know who ISN'T going to figure in matches this HAL v4.

Osman: slowly returning from major knee injury.
Mrdja: Ditto(expected to have some gametime in next week or so)
Heffernan: slowly returning from leg break & now playing.
Owens: Back gone. Time out???
O'Grady: Achilles injury. Time out??

Any others?

Mods:Suggest this be stickied and placed next to Squad 2008/09 Thread.  :tophat:

osman and heff are back in full training and totally recovered from their respective injuries - so much so that heff came first in the fitness test yesterday

mrdja is back to full training

wilko will miss this weekend's game because of the knee injury picked up against northern tigers but will be right after this

macallister will be back this weekend from his hammy injury

owens is a long way off

stringers could be a few weeks or could need an operation - don't know yet

all, in all, not that dire and certainly does not need a new thread

ive updated my squad list accordingly

. good idea, could actually be a way of tracking injuries throughout the season too  - a locked thread prevents such info from getting lost amongst random ramblings spread over many threads

. didn't mean to over-burden you - perhaps the mods could keep an eye on things (over-burden the mods instead)

nah im not overburdened. as i said procrastination is inevitable, its just how you use that time that counts :p

if we sign bojic and nash, then that could possibly leave three more places:

- still room in the cap to sign a gun
- still haven't used marquee option
- still haven't used marquee youth option

lawrie said he is looking at the UK and Denmark so hopefully there could be some talent here

suggestion noted

merged with this topic

am wondering if a separate thread editable only by the creator (i.e. skilbeck) and mods might be a good way of preventing the info from being buried? we could add info about other clubs too?

without some more signings, we're a carving fork with no handle - big dangerous things at the pointy end and no way to steer them...

I am intrigued....how do you know such things?

I am not questioning the accuracy but I am humbled by your insight.
