Former Empoli midfielder Frank Lagana is attracting big A-League interest.

The AIS graduate is being courted by Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United, however he is favouring a return to Europe after several years playing in Victoria's Premier League with Oakleigh.

off tribalfootball though so take it with a grain of salt

meh - dez giraldi was at empoli too, and his greatest contribution the the a-league was getting carded while not even playing.

But what a contribution it was!
Greatest booking I've ever seen...

Reports in England are linking Dwight Yorke with Wolves, Reading and Derby

He was linked withDerby in the a-league off season before the world cup. They wanted him as a player and he wanted to stay match fit, but it fell through, so its possible they want him again. Cant see him at Wolves of Reading thought.

Lawrie wants an attacking CM and a back-up left sided player.

d'appuzzo will have to be that left sided player

marquee for attacking midfielder? hope so

with the loss of tommy amd gumps we are in desperate need of creativity

it showed the last two games and without it we will not win the comp again

Agree with all those points.

D'Apuzzo would be ideal becuase he'd most likely be cheap, can cover both of those roles and from what i've heard he can play.

Thought that either Dwight or Skoko would be that attacking mid marquee, but recently i'm not sure who it will be.

This lad was GOOD ... I hope Lawrie will be watching him soon:

"Brazilian flavor hits Cromer Park
03.06.08 10:06

Manly United's new exciting Brazilian import Caetano Lima.

Alabama is a long way from Cromer Park but Caetano Lima couldnt be happier with his new surroundings on the Northern Beaches.

The attacking midfielder, who first caught the eye as a youngster playing with Southern Districts as a diminutive teenager a decade ago, has long been touted as a player with special talent by astute football judges and the Telechoice Premier League will be his latest stage to perform on.

Lima has honed his skills the past four years through the American college system and couldnt be better equipped to launch an assault on the competition.

I headed over (to America) in 2004 with high expectations and looking back it was great for my football, he said.

I had been playing in Australia at a representative level since I was eleven and when the NSL finished it was an uncertain time and I didnt know what to do.

I had just broken into the Northern Spirit first team but I wasnt going to wait forever when it came to being offered a contract in the A League.

I saw America as an opportunity to get a degree and play soccer at the same time and it was fantastic, the level of professionalism was unbelievable.

Widely known in soccer circles as KK, Lima was recruited by N.C.A.A. Division 1 University Campbell on a sporting scholarship in 2004 before linking up with the Mobile Rams for three years where he achieved All American honours.

The communications graduate, who was invited to trial with Sporting Lisbon as a sixteen-year-old, was also offered a professional contract with Brazilian team S.E.R Caxias but elected to return down under and complete his schooling.

It was a decision he agonised over but he feels it was the right one.

I could have thrown all my eggs in one basket and backed myself but I always knew having an education was important and the quality of life in Australian was another factor, he said.

At the time it was a wonderful opportunity but I dont regret my decision, you never know what lies ahead.

The desire to test himself against the best defenders was the catalyst behind him coming home once he graduated from College but he is only too aware at the obstacles that lay ahead.

Even in my short time back I have noticed the game has changed in Australia, he said.

When I left Spirit to go to America I was nineteen and the game was in limbo.

I have been watching highlights over the internet and family and friends have all raved to me about the standard of games.

Like everyone I have goals but I am not looking too far ahead.

Manly were good enough to offer me a trial and my first aim is to repay Phil Moss for the faith he has shown in me.

The boys welcomed me from the outset and I cant wait to play for them, they play great football and I would like to think I can make a contribution with them.

My immediate focus is breaking into the team and winning silverware.  FNSW

I might write up the Marconi vs Manly NSWPL game this Saturday and check him again for myself.

. agree, sounds like the guy could actually have his head screwed on too which can't be a bad thing (may not be the 'typical' professional footballer in that sense)

What exactly makes him a dickhead though? Because he missed a breakfast and didn't get along with Muscat? People said the same things about Sasho when he joined and there haven't been any problems with him yet.

Didn't get along with Muscat, eh? Sounds like a pretty natural thing to me.....sign him up straight away!

well as a point of interest, if Lawrie had a chance he would probably sign Muscat up right away

Clearly a hypothetical, but if Muscat ever found himself in ANY position at the Mariners be it player, coaching staff or programme seller, I would seriously consider shredding my season pass.

Anyhoo, back to Bosnich, might not be the worst signing they could make. As, Bearinator (I think it was) pointed out, the longer term picture is important. Danny won't be with us forever, and we need someone who can step up to the plate straight away, or at least provide the competition to keep Trott on his toes, if he's the number 1.

This article was in today's express about David D'apuzzo and Brady Smith.

Oh, brother I'm hot on your heels

dapuzza.jpg

David D`Apuzzo can secure a Mariners contract with a strong performance in the trial at Rockhampton.

NSW Premier League wing back David D'Apuzzo will secure an A-League contract with a good performance for the Mariners in their trial against Rockhampton tonight.

D'Apuzzo, the younger brother of Newcastle Jets and Olyroos midfielder Adam, will play in the first of the Mariners two trials in Queensland this weekend.

He will then return to Sydney to fulfill his commitments with NSW Premier league team APIA Leichhardt before awaiting a phone call from Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna to offer him a contract.

"He's done well for us in two trials and we're taking him to Queensland just to confirm our opinion of him," McKinna said.

"He's got a good left foot on him and will give us good back up for our left sided players Dean Heffernan and Adrian Caceres."

D'Apuzzo, 19, said he has used his brother's A-League experience with Newcastle as motivation to take his own career to the same level.

"Following Adam in the A-League has been my motivational tool," D'Apuzzo said.

"The Mariners are due to play Newcastle in the Pre-Season Cup and I'd love the chance to take on my brother as early as then."

A possible clash between the brothers in the trial between the Jets and the Mariners at Budgewoi on June 21 is unlikely with APIA Leichhardt also having a game on the same day.

The Mariners are taking 15 players to Queensland this weekend but that may be extended if Central Coast Lightning midfielder Brady Smith is given permission by his club to join the Mariners. Smith is under consideration for a spot in the Mariners' youth league squad.

Tonight the Mariners play the Capricorn Cougars at Rockhampton and then the Whitsunday Miners in Mackay on Sunday.

There's a video on the Mariner's site in an article where Lawrie gives a summary of the current injured players.

Mrdja and Osman should be able to start playing games at the end of the month
Stringers should be available for the first trial game in Canberra
Greg Owens is a more long term casualty and won't start running for another 6 weeks

Looking at who we have and who we are likely to sign/re-sign we do have a number of worries before we start the season.

Danny Vukovic------Out for a third of the season
Dean Heffernan-----Injury concern
Nigel Boogaard
Alex Wilkinson
Matthew Osman------Injury concern
Adam Kwasnik
John Hutchinson
Mile Jedinak
Ahmad Elrich
Dylan McAllister
Nik Mrdja----------Injury concern

Matthew Trott------Injury concern
David D'Apuzzo
Andrew Clark
Paul O'Grady--------Injury concern
Ian McAndrew
Adrian Caceres
Sasho Petrovski
Greg Owens---------Injury concern
Bradley Porter
Matt Simon

The obvious areas of concern are goalkeeper and defence. We have had a lot of injuries in the backline and our two starting fullbacks are both under an injury cloud.

The midfield looks very strong with only Owens in the sick bay and the frontline doesn't look to bad given the number of midfield players that can play striker as well.

That's nearly a third out in the off season. Let's hope the guys come good before the season starts.

Agree with most of those, but I don't think Heff will be much of an injury concern by the time round 1 comes around IMO.

Definately need another defender or two though. I think Dave D'appuzo will take one spot and provide good back-up for Heff, should I be wrong. Another centre-back I think is still needed. Meggsy would be nice but I doubt it.

Then add an attacking creative midfielder and I think we're set for another title shot.
