Owens Jr Set For A-League - 442 rumour mill

Greg Owens younger brother, seventeen year old Ty Owens, is set to become the Central Coast Mariners latest signing. He will fill the vacant under twenties spot left by Bradley Porter.

Striker Owens has been training with the Mariners for the past year, and played twice for the club in Pre-season, scoring against Malaysia.

This article has been provided by:
Liam of Gosford

FourFourTwo Belief Factor: 8/10 - He's well-known to the Mariners so it would only make sense to sign him up properly at last.

First of all, only in the youth team 1st PLEASE Lawrie. And second of all "He will fill the vacant under twenties spot left by Bradley Porter", whats that all about? It like to know if this is just some bloke with a lot of time on his hands, or someone in the know.
Porter is 21 now (born February 19, 1987) so doesn't qualify as an under 20 player...I expect that's all that's meant by "the vacant under twenties spot left by Bradley Porter".....

With the youth league now up and running isn't it changing from 3 U20's to 3 U21's?

Yes it is.

I think it was mentioned a couple of weeks back that LM said Smitta still qualifies.

Thats what I was talking about. Maybe there is something we dont know yet. But really I think the story was just shit, Ty is far from ready for a 1st team contract. He has potential, but not yet. But I guess in Lawrie we trust  :-\

Ty should easily get one of the youth spots but not a first team spot yet. injury might push him into the first team this season though

Perth have major problems in pretty much every area
except strikers and their defence has potential.

Queensland are also strong all over the park and that
showed last year, there could do with a couple more
strikers.

Adelaide are strong all over the park, but i guess there
defence isnt as strong as it could be with heaps of injuries.

Melbourne have a favouritism problem which worked out well
for the coast landing caceres, i believe they got a defence prob
not much experience and that showed in the ACL.

Wellington are very strong in defence but lack the spark up front
in attacking midfielders and strikers.

Sydney will be a very strong side in v4, doesnt mean they will
do any good behind a inexperience defence. There strikers
and midfeild looks very strong.

Newcastle... well i dont know looking at there team list there
forfeiting every game next season, but with virtually the whole
cap free they could sign a couple more Jardels.

And...

The Mighty Mariners.
Best Goalkeeper in Australia on the park (after suspension)
Defence rock solid with the young boogs
captain Wilko and Socceroo Heff.
Midfeild is our Strongest area with 2 socceroos
and amazing talent in the mids.
Strikers are our weakest point but with 2 socceroo
strikers in Sasho and Nik we couldnt go wrong.

And thats why we are going to win 2008/09 season!

sorry mate but i disagree with the strikers IMO. i reckon our strikers are pretty good having Macca in the team and (hopefully) nik. we might even have 3 up front seeming we have 3 quality strikers macca, sasho and nik

If either of those two options can come true, suits me.

have we ever not played 442?

correct me if im wrong but I think we have done 4-5-1 i.e. when Mori left in the last 3rd, I remember Petrie was on the left wing, Pondeljak was injured and Hutch out of form:
------------------Vukovic
O Sullivan--Wilkinson---Vidmar/O Grady----Brown
-------------------Jedinak
Osman------Spencer------Gumprecht------Petrie
-------------------Kwasnik

and I think we have done 4-4-1-1 in season 1 GF

--------------------Vukovic
Clark--------Wilkinson---Beauchamp----Heffernan
O Sullivan---Gumprecht---Spencer---------Brown
-------------Pondeljak
-------------------------Petrie

These are all variants of 4-4-2 though and we wont particulary successful with either

Well - the original Jardel doesn't want to go to a small club like the SCUM!! ;D

Wildly speculative here, but on the off chance we do sign Cattanach, I wonder if Nik will be cut?

Matty's on a new two year deal, so maybe if (big if of course) we do sign him, maybe Nik's gone.

I would be surprised if we signed Cattanach, but would it be possible to sign him and then loan him out to another A League Club until Sasho or Nik either retires or is dropped and then recall the loan. it seems that a lot of clubs in the league have a major problem with strike power i.e. Queensland with Reinaldo having left, Adelaide if Burns and Djite go overseas as well as Perth. The scum only has one established striker and in form striker as does Wellington and Melbourne lack forward depth with only Archie and Allsopp being there. So with Cattanach there will be lots of option for an a league club and he will probably easily get a start

Can we give Matty Simon the #25 shirt. whoever has that shirt has the highest scoring rate of the season for the mariners. it must be blessed. #2 and #24 both seem to be donkey shirts
