to be honest we cant really say if A-league has caught up with him or not because we hardly have seen him play enough last season to make that judgement .

to me  since comin to the mariners owens ahsnt been the same player as he was  in adelaide. Yes he has  had a few outstanding moments but not enough to  move hutcho  jedi  or even gumps shall he stay to the bench  . The only way i would start him is if elrich plays right mid and fails to show spark then maybe chuck owens on the right along side hutch and jedi in the middle and caceras on the left

Well Lawrie will have the option to put the best 4 midfielders on the park (assuming 442) at any given game next year which im sure he'll decide on a week by week basis. some weeks owens may be the best on the right, some weeks kwas may be the best and other weeks elrich maybe the best on the right. thats the good thing about depth

I still don't think we've seen Owens playing at 100% match fitness.

I think we'll see a new Greg Owens playing for us this season.

fully agree he was still gettin over a back injury as far as i know...he will really step up this season

He better, his contract ends at the end of the year, and i reckon if he played like he did last year he will be battling for a contract.
Yeah he had his moments last year.
Wasnt consistant and always injuried.
Im all for giving him a huge chance but he's really gota give it everything

yep..  in my opinion we have  much better players in the starting lineup then owens

who, and why?

100% agreed. Fully fit, he is a massive player for us. Until THAT SFC game, he was integral to the MF and we never really lloked the same without him TBH

Yeah I questioned what seemed to be a lot of pretty flippant dismissal of Owens before...
Owens is quality, u can see it even in his basic movement let alone highlight reels.
I agree that his rhythm will return, and he will be a very strong asset for CCM in 08/09.

Owens Jr Set For A-League - 442 rumour mill

Greg Owens younger brother, seventeen year old Ty Owens, is set to become the Central Coast Mariners latest signing. He will fill the vacant under twenties spot left by Bradley Porter.

Striker Owens has been training with the Mariners for the past year, and played twice for the club in Pre-season, scoring against Malaysia.

FourFourTwo Belief Factor: 8/10 - He's well-known to the Mariners so it would only make sense to sign him up properly at last.

First of all, only in the youth team 1st PLEASE Lawrie. And second of all "He will fill the vacant under twenties spot left by Bradley Porter", whats that all about? It like to know if this is just some bloke with a lot of time on his hands, or someone in the know.

Catt Call For The A-League

EXCLUSIVE: After his two strikes sunk Sydney Olympic, Manly United coach Phil Moss says hes resigned to losing his star striker Robbie Cattanach to the A-League.
Hes a special talent, he really is and Id be stunned if he was playing for in the NSW premier league next season, Moss told au.fourfourtwo.com after his side defeated Olympic 2-1 to cement their spot at the top of the NSW Premier League.

Hes too good for this league. What level hell end up only time will tell but hes been a fantastic player for us and hopefully Catt stays a Manly United player for life. But I cant see that happening.

With Mariners staff coach Alex Tobin watching on, Cattanach, 23, did his A-League hopes no harm with two classy finishes to dash Olympics hopes. All the more creditable considering the goal sneak has been out of action for a couple of weeks with a knee ligament complaint.

Cattanachs first strike, right on half-time, was a classic poachers finish. He picked up a loose back pass on the edge of the Blues box and nipped in front of Olympic keeper Michael Herbert before coolly rounding him and slotting home.

Olympic's best moment of the game thus far came early in the second half when the impressive Nathan Sherlock hit the bar with a sweet strike.

Manly rode their luck shortly after when Olympic hit the post but it looked like Olympics hard-working midfield star Peter Zorbas had rescued a point with a late goal.

However, Cattanach struck in the shadows of the final whistle to win the game. His superbly taken free kick from 25m out rocketed past Herbert to condemn a lively Olympic to a home defeat and seventh place on the ladder.

Manly proved why they are ladder leading with a masterclass in defensive organisation, hard work in midfield and intelligent counter-attack football on a windy night at Belmore. Moss was a satisfied man after the match.

Its good to have Catt back, hes a proven goalscorer. The boys had to battle really hard against that wind away from home, and Olympic are a very good side who continually ask questions, but the character tonight was unbelievable, he added.

so is it possible that we may sign him. i say we dont need more strikers but others on here disagree with me. but if we do sign him seems like a good enough player for me and ive always said we should get some more from state leagues

i havent seen him play but i do think we need another striker... i was hoping with funds freed up from the departures of aloi$i and viddy we might be able to attract a higher profile striker than "catt" but he may be worth a look - perhaps invite him to pre-season clashes against CC Lightning and Spirit FC if we are seriously thinking about it.

Well he would be good in that Sasho is over 30 and if Nik isnt he's not far off. Could be a good long term replacement

thats true, matt simon also needs to start scoring goals, hes played well but been let down by some rushes of blood to the head... but then we also have dylan maccalister who is still youngish

There is a Liam that writes the 'one-on-one' segment on the Mariners site.
