Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

So is Dwight to be Marquee?

Story didnt say. We will know either way soon enough

And thankfully, the story is bullshit - see pjennings post.

Thank goodness for that, would have been a rubbish signing.  Plain and simple.

Not the first time Lyall has said something like that but it has still eventuated

Someone give me a reason why we would need to sign him? Our midfield next season has the capability of being the strongest in the league. JUst before anyone craps on about "hell play up front" he has said he does not want to, he wants to play in the middle and at the conclusion of his contract hed like to become manager.

add to the fact that the story was bogus to begin with

as fish said - we don't need him

i'd rather see a gun striker as marquee and use the rest of the dosh to bolster our defence with aa stopper and an outside back

IMO the midfield, especially CMs, is about the only position well and truly covered.

Keeper, backs and strikers are all in need of either more depth or one really convincing player in each of those positions to complete the squad.

Squad positions and $$$ are becoming limited so a CM is about the most unrealistic new signing I can imagine at this stage.

I have a bold prediction to make (just my thoughts)

Trotty/Redmayne injury is declared quite long term and John Filan signed as cover.

That allows Danny to cop whatever suspension he gets but means we dont have to have 4 keepers in the squad.

I wonder??

With covers having to come from the youth squad - and Redmayne & Trott supposedly injured, does that mean we'll be forced to play the Lightning's goalie (God help us)?

Or, if we sign a really good 4th keeper to play A-League, who covers the youth league? Do we have to sign a fifth keeper who is underage?

Lyall Gorman doesn't control the club.... there are others there with influence and cash behind them who are keen to have Yorke at the Mariners.

I think Lyall wouldn't make public statements unless he was convinced he had the backing of the Board in the matter.

Mind you, it may also be a sanctioned Board strategy to have Lyall make denial statements while they try to get the price of Yorke down....

it's not the price - the length of contract may be at contention

Price
Contract length
Age
Other contract clauses

well, only one in particular that wants yorke here

you are right that lyall is not the only one making decision, but he is the one steering the ship for the club, has been there from day one and is aware of the need to focus on their highly developed business plan - one which includes a commitment to family and community values.

Yorke's persona and off-field antics do not fit with these values.

Yep - Turnbull wants Yorke and it's likely that he'll bring him on board.

I don't know what you mean by Yorke's off-field antics.. the man is a true gentleman. Would you rather have someone like the AFL's Hall or Carey?

if turnbull wants to go all con constantine then he can f**k off, as far as i'm concerned.

the football men run the team, the money men sign the cheques. if the football people can help with the cash side through promotional stuff, community stuff and other work exposing sponsor logos and all that, fine and dandy, but it's a football club not a fiefdom - our football needs should come first.
