Thats what i thought but looking at the list of current socceroos, you wouldn't think many of them were ready to come back.
A list of them that are "nearing" the end of their careers isn't many. Skoko, Chipperfield, Kalac, ?

kalac's been starting over dida at milan but with talk of rijkaard taking over next season he'll probably look for a new keeper as dida is sh*te.

Troisi?? Thwaite?? or how funny would it be if we stole the 3rd griffith, hes a former socceroo.

Thwaite's too young to come back now (from his wallets point of view). He is just starting to get under the nose of Pim and we all know what Pim thinks of the A-League players. (Bet you he never picks Aloi$i again!!)
and Troisi , to make first squad at a team like Newcastle (even how sh*te they are goin) and leave for Australia just for first team football would be a massive gamble. He would be better served (and Australia would be better served) by moving to a lower division for game time. I would love to see him play for us though!

actually to be honest i dont think he's as much of a bad-ass onfield.. its more his off field attitude thats caused him all the problems over the years. lots of high profile verbal spats among other things.

lawrie did host jacob burns a couple of weeks ago before the qatar game.. brought him up to the coast to catch up and show him around the facilitys and took him to terrigal for lunch etc etc. they're definatley interested but he's just recently signed a deal and moved too kakrow so it's unlikely. although probably the most likely of any 'current socceroos'.

does anyone think we need to sign another defender in place of vidmar? we've got great defenders to cover as it is, with wilko and boogs etc, but theres no more ceccoli and we're 1 centre back short. a couple of injuries back there and things could be troublesome.

Someone said they saw Lawrie showing off Terrigal to Lionel Messi the other week. He would be asking for too much though IMO.

If you look at our squad what positions do we need?

We don't need a keeper (yet)
RB we'll have Osman and probably Clark, there isn't many decent specialist RB's around anyway
LB we have Heff, why get a socceroo for that position? when we potentially already have 1
CB we have Wilko and Boogs, Stringers as back up......perhaps here could do with some back up but it may come from NSWPL? If we signed a socceroo CB would Boogs go to the right?
LM just signed Caceres! Also have Kwas and Hutcho who can play there
RM just signed Elrich! Also have Kwas, Osman and Owens who can play there
DCM he's big he's 'ard he'll score from 30 yards Jedinak, Hutcho could play there as well as Porter
ACM we lost Tommy, I can only see Hutcho here or perhaps Owens
ATT we have Sasho and Simon......maybe Mrdja and maybe Macca?

Looks like our weakest area on the park IMO is ACM and ATT, perhaps another CB too as we look thin? Mile can go CB too if necessary
