I hope Gumps stays...he's a mad exciting player...he's quick, reliable and always has answers!!!
we need PACE in our game...Sash is always running around, trying to creat opportunities but is forever being let down by our slow midfield! kwasnik has his good moments, but they are overshadowed by his hesitancy! GUMPS TO STAY...
in a dream world, lets get Cahill! yeah, that would happen! but sersiously, if that DID happen, I would probably make bluetongue stadium my new home and sleep there every night...

He won't be staying :'( He is going to be playing for Roar :'(

BOOOOOOOOOO! the roar are a great squad...Gumps will fit in beautifully with them...
I'm very confused right now as to who is staying and who is going and who is still up in the air and who have we acquired...can someone clarify...i'm getting worried about our next season...
The state of play as I understand it.

I think we have the following on contract or resigned

Matthew Trott
Danny Vukovic
Dean Heffernan
Nigel Boogaard
Paul O'Grady
Alex Wilkinson
John Hutchinson
Mile Jedinak
Bradley Porter
Adam Kwasnik
Greg Owens
Sasho Petrovski
Matt Simon

We have signed Caceres

We are likely to lose or have lost

Damien Brown
Alvin Ceccoli
Tony Vidmar
Andre Gumprecht
Tom Pondeljak
John Aloisi

We are yet to resign or have not released news on

Andrew Clark
Andrew Redmayne
Matthew Osman
Ian McAndrew
Nik Mrdja

Ceccoli, Tommy, Aloi$i and vidmar have officially gone.

Imagine that Browny will bow out and by his own admission, Gumps is out too.

I expect the other 5 (except possibly Mrdja) to be re signed (guessing really)

. talk of mrdja moving on is hardly surprising

. the mariners would likley be offering him reduced terms (refer to value for money over the past 3 years) so as a minimum he would be talking up his options to take to the negotiation table

. he is a talent but has no real ties to the coast ... and all the (ex)glory boys seem to be on their way

but the fact that he has only played a handful of games in 3 years has to go against him on the negotiating table

That's not 100% true, he does have a long term girl friend who lives and works on the coast, but in saying that, im sure if he got a good offer, they wouldn't hesitate to pack up and leave.

why are we not being more active in recruiting from other teams? Sydney FC have taken a pick-n-mix from everyone else, as have Roar and a bunch of others...we have only signed caceres...why aren't we being more agressive with our campaign??

Out of the players to be re-signed I suspect that Clarky may be heading to Galaxy but we will resign

Andrew  Redmayne
Matthew Osman
Ian  McAndrew
Nik  Mrdja

If that is true we will need

A backup for Heff at LB
A solid CB that can cover for Jedi at DM
A marquee AM
A young backup AM (Ty Owens)
A Young striker (Milos Lujic??)

This would leave a squad of

Andrew Redmayne
Matthew Trott
Danny Vukovic
Dean Heffernan
Backup  LB
Nigel Boogaard
Paul O'Grady
Solid CB - backup DM
Alex Wilkinson
Matthew Osman
Adrian Caceres
John Hutchinson
Mile Jedinak
Ian McAndrew
Bradley Porter
Adam Kwasnik
Greg Owens
Marquee Attacking Mid
Ty Owens
Milos Lujic - maybe a more experienced striker instead
Nik Mrdja
Sasho Petrovski
Matt Simon

Only cloud is Danny's problem. Apparently from NBN tonight Trotty has a long term injury. We may need another keeper

what is the point in signing a player to be back up for heff IF he gets injured and another player as back up for Jedinak IF he gets injured. That is just a waste... how many times have Heff or Jedinak been injured? Heff would have still been playing if Talay didn't break his leg. Are we going to sign a player and say 'Well, we signed these two guys and used part of the salary just in case Heff or Jedinak have their legs broken or get sent off...'

I think back up players should be able to play in various positions, like guys like Osman who can play in the backs or the wing with out being a liability.

As for marquee AM, as much as I agree that we need that, I'm pretty sure Lawrie mentioned in the anti-Juninho article that they would only fork out the big bucks on an all out striker.

We no longer have cover for Heff - we had Viddy and Browny before. Although I agree that you don't want someone that can only play at LB. The cover for Jedi was primarily to cover the CB role where we have lost Viddy and Clarky.

I think the answer to this may well be along the lines of what Lawrie expressed in the herald today, when he said I don't know that we'll have a marquee for next season - with the focus being on finding and continuing to develop ours and Australia's youth with a particular mind to the ACL bid. They are three steps ahead of everyone else in the league and always have been and boy is it going to pay huge dividends for us over the coming years I believe. While everyone else bar Roar still thinks the answer is to find a 35 year old Brazilian or a rapidly declining ex great and pay them as much moula as you can beg borrow or steal, CCM is earnestly looking to the future. And why would they simply jump at whatever is currently off contract, when the best are retained already and with the value of discovering young talent as per Kruse, Zullo and Minniecon not to mention you then also have strikers like Djittte and Burns who were ignored by Sydney Bling in their quest for bigger better...

The less we hear, the harder I'm sure they are working, and with an ACL place on offer, some decent money now in our kitty, last seasons Minor premiers, two GF placings... Well I think we have a very enticing resume, and I will be very surprised if we have anything less than a stellar squad. And one thats going to go some distance. I think that was probably a lesson given by Aloisi, and the nature of what you'll get for your 1 or 1.4 million in a long term sense in any case. I don't want an expensive flash in the pan has been. I'd rather young emerging stars who devote themselves to us for three years before they head for the EPL and make the club a mint on the release of their contracts. The Danny, Boogs and Jedi's of our squad are great examples of this.

Those players are pretty hard to find though, soccersensei. A lot of people on here are making out as if it is easy to just grab a "fast, skillful player who can score goals".

How many have been found so far? Ones that actually stand out that is...
Boogs, Danny, Jedinak, Kruse, Zullo, Minniecon, Djite, Burns. That is only 8 in the entire league.

I agree tyson. your right, it no easy job, not at all, but I bet you there's still "some" out there, and I like the idea that we will take the time to look instead of feeling compelled to try and out bid for whoever's off contract asap. Also the key or heart of it I think is not just looking for players who are right at this moment at the required level but our flag ship approach to talent development. I would think that the Asia and Africa and the Arab countries would also be likely candidates for us to be scouting youth from and that blows open the potential pool considerably. (I still personally think Lawrie has those three missing iraqi under 23's in his basement ;D) Whatever happens, I 'm supremely confident from our current position they'll get a great squad on the park for next year, but I'm most excited by our big picture plans and am honestly hopeful that in several years a goodly amount of our squad will be coming straight out of the academy.

I like the idea of signing Ty Owens as a backup attacking mid, with Lawrie moving heaven and earth to get a decent starting attacking mid, for instance i dont care whether they are from Australia, Brazil, Tajikistan or Rigel VII, just as long as they have experience and can provide our strikers with decent service as well as have the ability to control the pace of the game

And don't forget that CCM has a lot to offer. e.g. 2007/8 premiers and grand finalists, 2 grandfinals in 3 years, youth academy, existing players such as jedi, sash, hutch, boogs, jedi, vukavic, staff like McKinna, Tobin, etc, the backing of Singo, plans for fund raising ventures with Sheffield United, one of the best football stadiums in the country and, last but not least, the best location in Australia (if not the world!), the Central Coast.

Trott injured!?  wow
I think Redmayne better start training hard

When I saw the boys at a couple of practices before the GF Redmayne was on the physio bench or doing some LIGHT jogging.
How the hell did he get injured. He hasnt played any games. Maybe it is just growing pains I dont know but if it is growing pains he will be able to head the bar. He is already a big unit

i think its tactics, sign an injury replacement keeper and start first choice instead of trotty.
