Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

What about Peter Cvetanovski?
He's a NSW boy, I believe he was at AIS, very strong player.

Anyone seen him in action and know of his availability?

if Sydney sign him, that would be a massive rort, though I reckon he would go elsewhere, probably GCG if they get the go ahead. If we sign Ahmad, we wont be getting Yorke

Why not?
Other than the obvious midfield being too packed dilemma.. Ahmed wouldn't and shouldn't be marquee status.

Nah but Ahmad signing for us indicates that if we go for a player of Marquee status, it will be a striker

Ahmed wouldn't be marquee status - Lawrie ain't that stupid

TBH I would be surprised if we signed Ahmed

wat I meant is that if we sign Elrich and Yorke we would be packing the midfield and therefore any marquee signing would therefore be in another position

SMH Feb 13

In other transfer news, AIS fullback Peter Cvetanovski, who had a brief spell with Newcastle Jets last season, has agreed a two-year deal with German second-tier side Borussia Moenchengladbach

Bugger!!

Our wingers Ahmed and Caceres will be the quickest in the league.
For example on FIFA08 Hefferans speed is 63. Caceres is 69.
and Elrich's is 75 we are going to have very skilled pacy wingers

I reckon a Y shape midfield played like this would add heaps to the team and the comp

----------------Jedinak
---------------Hutchinson
Elrich-------------------------Caceres

This midfield, Heff at LB and a quick striker would make the Mariners the best team on the counterattack in the comp

Dammit, that sucks.
Regarded one of Australias' "Wonder Kids" would have been reasonably cheap and easy to lock in for a decent contract.... maybe

You havin' a larf!? You really think that Lawrie will play anything other than a run-of-the-mill 442?

its a variation of 4-4-2 and itll show as 4-4-2 on paper. its how those players will eventually fit into formation on the pitch if they were ever on the field at the same time

I'd like to see it, but I'd also like some sort of 3-5-2

-----Boogs-------Wilko-----Heff
-----------------Jedi
--Elrich---------Hutch------Caceres
--------------Matty?--------
--------Sasho------Nik

Something like that, with the diamond/cross midfield would be awesome.
I think we play pretty well with 3 at the back and Jedi holding the midfield/dropping back to help out Wilko.

LOL and yes, I know my formation diagram is dodgy as!

Your diagram says what you're trying to say...it's your formation that's dodgy!

both Heff and Matty Simon are played out of position. and when Heff goes on his attacking runs, that will leave us with only 3 back including cover

I'm aware that Matty is out of position, though wasn't sure exactly who else I'd put in that attacking mid/support role, his work rate is pretty high and he's a bastard for defenders, could work.

Yeah you're right about Heff actually.. hmm

Yeah he was.
I was just mucking around with formations, seeing what might work.

Some variation of the 442 with a diamond could be very effective. I guess we'll have to wait and see what Lawrie does.
