I remember watching an Andrew Orsatti interview with Terry Greedy. He always backed himself against strikers in a one-on-one situation. Something about you can always outsmart a striker.

When I was younger I was playing goal keeper at a decent level and was coached from time to time by Terry Greedy.

Had plenty of knowledge to impart but his most useful was how to save penalties. He said that players will always try and bamboozle you by footwork or a look of the eye, but their hips will never lie. He said that the hips will go in the opposite direction from where the ball was going over ninety percent of the time.

It was the gift of coaching that kept giving and I always had a decent record of saving penalties.

My understanding is that the budget is being spent much more wisely this time around and we are getting good value for our spend. Any player coming in carries some risk but I still trust Monty and Ken’s judgement to deliver a competitive team with the funds that are available to them.

I’m impressed thus far. I know a little about Goddard purely from being a Spurs fan. I know absolutely nothing about beni but it tells me monts and ken are doing their scouting. Keep in mind we have no scouts on our books, this is all on monts and ken doing the hard yards online and on the phones, Utilising some contacts Monty has through the uk which would spread to Europe. We’ve got 2 mid 20s visa players one of which obviously has high technical ability and the other is a big powerful quick winger (reserve judgement on ability)
We’re not getting 2 visa’s in their late 30s coming for a holiday.

in Monty we trust

I think it is important that these two visa players are in their mid 20's. We have five of our squad in their 30's and the rest basically between 20 and 23. Important to have a balance.

Greeds tells a funny story about when he was playing for St George in the early 80's in the days where you had a small sign on fee and then a few hundred when you won. After having a draw on the road Terry and Dave Ratcliff were sitting at the back of the bus complaining how a young Robbie Slater had cost them a win and a few hundred dollars by missing a couple of one on one's. They approached him and suggested that they get to training early and they would teach him what to do in a one on one. Slater thought they were taking the piss and refused to turn up. He did speak highly of Slater's achievements.

Spot on, we've been missing players in this age bracket for years. The strength and athleticism mid 20's can be underestimated.

Played with a guy who played in the Sydney competition pre the NSL, and then moved on to the NSL when it started.

The game was in the early 70's.... and this guy played for Apia... about ten minutes into the game I think it was St George ... one SG player took him out and the ref blows the whistle.. but gives the free to SG...

Ball goes down the wing and SG have a shot it sails over the goal by miles... ref awards a corner... ball went nowhere near an Apia player.... SG kick the ball out... and SG start walking away ... ref calls them back and awards SG the throw...

From the throw Apia in time get hold of the ball and belt it up field... one of the SG players in turning around and going back to his half ... does a brief kinda half trip ... stays on his feet... ref calls the play up and where the SG player slipped awards a free..

Apia captain walks up to the ref .... what the hell is going on....

Ref replies... your forward when I called him offside early on in the game... called me " A Fat Cheating C..U..N..T''' until he comes over and says sorry this will continue and if anyone else swears at me I will start awarding penalties...

Forward said sorry and no one from either side yelled at the ref for the rest of the game...

I've seen him play all along the back 4. Predominantly a CB. as is Miller - but I rate Hall in front of Miller so would go for him and leave Miller for cover for the CBs and RB.

I'd swap Hall for Miller nut that looks pretty good.
Yeah personally I still think we need a solid rb with Miller and maybe hall as backups, but that’s how I would line up based on our current squad of players, still a few spots to fill though which is great
