ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

If any of you honestly believe that vaccination is the route to freedom, you may be sorely disappointed I’m afraid. Sorry to say it but this virus will very likely keep on evolving and find ways to circumvent vaccines possibly for years to come, just like influenza has for as long as anyone can remember.

What is the route then?

Zero isn't a long term (maybe even short term) viable goal. As you say it'll be around for the long haul but if you get the jab you reduce your chances of passing it on (smaller window of being infectious) and severity which means the health system can cope with the minority that cant or wont get the vax.

In seats for late October feels ambitious at the moment though with NSW numbers still very much going in the wrong direction.

In time, when vaccination rates are high, they'll only look at hospitalisation/death numbers to determine health policy settings and not new case numbers. At that point we will see some return to social normalisation. Still probably with masks in key settings and distancing for a good while yet.

When the bulk of the population is vaccinated it's irrelevant how many people actually get covid if the symptoms are minor. It'll be whether hospitalisation rates are manageable and stable that will be what determines the need for other measures. If hospitalisation rates start rising alarmingly then more lockdowns or other measures will become necessary again. If low - then we treat covid like cold/flu.

This is the simple version.

The caveat is mutations. If mutations occur that changes the spike protein significantly so that the immune response no longer recognises covid - we take several steps backwards (typically, but not always, this occurs in areas of high infection rates as occurred in India for the delta strain)

Like influenza, in time expect regular - probably yearly - booster shots, each shot tailored to the newest mutations.

The Plague Years. They suck, but don't last forever.

So we've got another visa player coming, as per Shaun's update in the club thread. Can't wait to see where this signing is going to cover. You'd have to say that our forward line is the lightest area of the field so far but also the midfield isn't far behind. I'm hoping this signing will be a player with a mean dead ball delivery and can run like the clappers with ball at feet. A decent cross wouldn't go astray either.

We haven’t had a dead ball specialist since Mile and Perez. I cry out for one every season. Here’s hoping.

100%. We just are not a threat from the set piece regularly enough to win enough big games to get us to the very last game. If we can get someone that gets it to a dangerous area at least 30 to 40% of the time we're a different team. If it's over 50% ......?

Given everyone is in guessing mode regarding the overseas player.

This is my guess... another Costa Rican ... to replace DDS ... with Muller played up front...I recall a player being discussed hhhhmmmm say four months ago was an international who only had a few games for the national side.

Actually we should ask the mods to determine guessing king status or similar to the poster who gets the country and an extra award if they can get the position.
