Great to hear. Sounds like a guy who can have a lasting contribution on the Coast even after he has retired. IMO, would make a good coach.

Also validates what many of us were saying about Staj’s tactically inflexibility leading to our slide in the second half of the season.
Yeah definitely. Be an amazing long term asset.

it does, doesn’t it. Seemed pretty blatant but some folks still got upset at any criticism no matter how much you tried to also give Staj his due.

Staj was very organised going into games, but that obviously made him more rigid and at times seemed conservative to the point of disbelief. For players of Olly and Marcos experience, who can sense all the ebbs and tides of a game, it must have been frustrating at times to not be a bit more adaptable and proactive.

He`s still listed on TRANSFER MARKT as our player but he hasn`t used his Twitter account since our season ended.
I hope he stays with us as he has a lot more to give and would really grow under Monty...
When did we let casella go when did he leave no announcement yet I saw storm
Roux today at terrigal he want come back to Mariner he said he want be at home in terrigal. Not in Melbourne

He wont play RT anywhere but at the back - Dan Hall far more likely to play DM I reckon
i reckon this is a tough one, because i believe a real bastard like stens in front of the defense.
is what made and will make us again this year . i like hall , but roun is a proven hard man . he'll handle DM
hall maybe something special .
im glad monty is coach

I'm having trouble trying to figure out what Monty's formation is likely to be. However I look at it we need at least 1 or 2 starters. (I've left Matty out of consideration but he may well surprise again). On top of that I think we need 3 backup signings and will rely again on the NPL2

As a 4-2-3-1 it could be
------------------Birighitti---------------
Hall-------Tongyik--------Rowles------Smith
----------Nisbet---------Bozanic-----------
NEW RAM------------Urena--------------Muller
-----------------New Striker----------------

As a 4-4-2
------------------Birighitti---------------
Hall-------Tongyik--------Rowles------Smith
New RM----Nisbet-------Bozanic---Muller
----------Urena------New Striker

As a 4-3-3
------------------Birighitti---------------
Hall-------Tongyik--------Rowles-----Smith
----------Nisbet-------Bozanic---
-----------------Muller--------------
New RW------Urena------New LW

Subs
Backup Keeper, Backup CB, Backup CAM
Hatch, Miller, Smylie, Cahill, Tsekenis, Simon, Balard & maybe Tapp

Currently that is nowhere near a good enough squad.

I'm not keen on Roux. Love the guy as a person but he is currently a defensive liability - not a great descriptor for any of your back line players. I guess if Monty went with him I'd just have to trust that the expert defender that is Monty would have plans to up-skill that side of his game.

We clearly have a bunch of recruitment to go. I guess Monty needs some time to do this and I'm assuming we hear nothing until things are locked down, but there might very well be many wheels in motion. Evidence so far is good - Muller and Smith were great and good signings respectively.

The reality is we don't know if the season will go ahead when planned and MC might also be holding off adding to the payroll spend for a bit until clearer. One possibility is the league starts in a hub somewhere (WA maybe? but probably lacking enough suitable stadia) but pretty quickly there aren't many delta free places left.

Would love some signing news all the same. To know we have the bulk of a reasonable side in pre-season together and under their new coach would be reassuring and exciting in equal measure.

WA probably wouldnt let them in and lacks the stadia as you mention. Afaik Glory have one of the most expensive venue deals in the league. VIC / QLD more likely but by the time late October or November rolls around I would expect the focus has pivoted to vax rates and cautiously getting on with it. The states cant keep these walls up forever. If that happens might even find Glory & Nix hubing again locked out of heading home, would be a crap deal but may go that way.
