Makes sense that if we are to play 4231 or 433 with a Dutch style (lol) then a Dutch C Back to organise them is a good idea.

Doig will doubtless step on some wet grass soon and be out injured for 6 months so another CB was a must.

I want us to play the Socceroos setup.

          Danny
Pedj Wilko Zwaanswijk Rose
      Porter Hutch
            #10
Kwasnik        Bozanic
          Simon

It's a good setup that combines a solidity in defence with flexibility in attack. Pedj and Rose will have the freedom to attack with Porter and Hutch dropping in as required. And Kwasnik will score goals. I guarantee it. ;)

+1 on Doig;
Arnie has said he is going to play 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield

Shades of Mike Bassett: Ladies and gentlemen. The Mariners will be playing Four-Four-f**king Two.

I don't think a 4-4-2 suits who we've got (particularly given our... one dimensional strike force).

My starting 11 ... not sure on the backs... plus left mid Olly wins on a name but Lewis while not setting the world on fire did nothing really wrong either last year..

I have always tho Matty a  better right mid than striker...a Emo style player

--------------------------------Danny---------

Wilko ----Griffiths....Zwaanswijk......Gallagher/Sainsbury/Rose/Warren (not sure who)

RM/Simon-------------------Amini----------------------Olly/Lewis

----------------------Argie #10 --------------------------

-------------------------McBreen/ Argie----------------------

When has Simon played RM? He's a centre forward and much better there.  A RM is meant to be able to cross the ball well, crossing is not Matty's primary strength.

Porter at defensive mid? He's spent most of his Mariner's career as "not a right back" so now he can start a new career as "not a defensive midfielder".

We have a difference of opinion then... when Matt has gone wide I have seen him put in some good ball... he is fit to run all day ... playing manager ..I would give Matt a run at right mid  ... his defense would be my only worry...

He can drift wide right in a forward position to drag the opposing CB out of position but I cant see him ever playing RM/RW.

In an attacking 433, maybe. In any sort of 442, no

played most his Mariners career on the right yes, but played most of his younger career in the middle, plus when he was at Lightning and was a standout in most games.  He actually started V3 in the middle too, in the centre is his preferred position but will play anywhere the team needs him.

Very funny movie that.

I dont mind 442 or 352 but hate when Mariners or Australia play with an isolated centre forward.

I dont think Kwas or Porter will be starting 11 players this season and if Wilko switchs to RB Bojic wont be either.

My team:
--------------------------------Danny----------------------------

                  Wilko----Zwaanswijk/Doig---Rose

Hutcho-------------------Argie/WeeMac---------------------Olly

-------------------------McBreen/Simon/----------------------

I've been predicting the diamond midfield as well. I was thinking something like

Bojic (now that Deej has said he will be there) - Wilko - Swan District - Rose
                              Griffiths/porter
        RM                                        Bozanic
                              #10
McBreen/Simon        Faster striker that GA told Marinermick he wants

Emo as in Emerton or a kid with pale skin and a long black fringe?

Why Emerton?

Central Coast Mariners is believed to be on the verge of confirming the signings of two imports - one an Argentine playmaker and the other other an experienced Dutch defender.

The World Game understands that Patricio Perez, a member of Argentina's 2005 World Youth Cup winning squad - alongside Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Fernando Gago - is poised for a move to Gosford.

The 24-year-old has already had a string of clubs with spells at Velez Sarsfield, Chacarita Juniors and Chile's Everton. Since 2008, he has been playing in the Argentine second division, first with San martin de Tucuman and more recently Defensa y Justicia.
Big things are expected of Perez in the A-League, with the Mariners keen to improve on a poor campaign last season.

Meanwhile, Dutch press reports claim 35-year-old defender Patrick Zwaanswijk has agreed a one-year deal with the Mariners, with an option for a second season.

Zwaanswijk graduated through the famed Ajax football academy before joning FC Utrecht in 1998. He had a brief spell in Japan with Oita Trinita, between 2004 and 2005 before returning to Netherlands to link up with Arnold's former club NAC Breda.

After five seasons with Breda, Zwaanswijk's contract was not renewed and after reportedly rejecting an offer from ADO Den Haag, the tall defender appears set to join the influx of foreigners in the A-League.
