Bernie isnt ready for HAL, wonderful prospect that he is.

Nik, McBreen, Matty with Payne and Brady to back them up (and Kwas although I think he is a better winger TBH)

Good squad depth and not too expensive

FFS I hope they open the wallet up and spend Im sick "not to expensive" bargin buys , lets get some quality. In general unless the player is young if you pay peanuts you generally get monkeys.

i would love Tommy Oar..

Haha, I have no doubts that anyone in this forum would.
He has too much class too stay at the A-league though.
The Roar will be lucky if they get to keep him for the 10/11 season IMO.

Okay, i'd love a line-up like:

                  Danny
Pedj/Huke    Wilko  Doig(c)    Pedj/new LB
                Huke/Crowell
    Barbiero                    Hutch
                    Wee Mac
        Matty/Payne      McBreen

Bench:
Crowell
Payne
Kwas
Brady/Nikas/Lewis

Would love Payne to start as he would give us that pace that we so desperately need but we all know that Matty would start ahead of him.
Dream would be to have Fowler or Leckie in place of wee-mac, though I know it;s only a dream.
Barbiero to fill the void left by Travis, IMO he's young, exciting to watch, has a bit of pace, very unpredictable and has a fairly good shot.

What ever happened to Brendan Santalab? Any chance we could nab that little champ aswell? :D

Nevermind, just found out he's a Chengdu Blades and more than likely no chance of a return. Pity, I was looking forward to seeing him in Fury colours last year.

Mrdja, McBreen, Simon - all too similiar for me, not enough variety and can't see Chris Payne changing much there. Need a left back desperately - Chippers? Joshua Rose? Steffanuto (is he still contracted to NQF)?
Don't rate Barbiero, not consistent enough.
Hoping we offer full time contracts to Nikas, Smith, Sherlock (is Lewis contracted for next year?)

Cockerill has us linked with 18 year old defender Trent Sainsbury from AIS.

I believe he has finished his stint at the AIS. He was in the October 2007 Joeys, which also contain familiar names:

Eli Babalj (State - WA), Chris Bush (ACT), Million Butshiire (WA), Cameron Edwards (WA), Nick Fitzgerald (NSW), Petar Franjic (VIC), Brendan Hamill (NSW), Kamal Ibrahim (VIC), Ben Kantarovski (NNSW), George Klappas (NSW), Robert Kolak (NSW), Jared Lum (NSW), Mitchell Mallia (NSW), Joel Miller (SA), Chahine Noujaim (SA), Trent Sainsbury (WA), Nikola Stanojevic (NSW), Nick Tubbs (QLD), Marc Warren (NSW), Tedros Yabio (VIC)

Is Mallia any good?
I remember watching him in a youth game and thought he was falling behind the other team members who were constantly barking at him?\

Just heard alot of hype about him lately on this forum

Mallia is skillful and quick but tends to be a ball hog. Although he can finish well.

IMO not as good as Panni, Brady or Lewis.

Steffanuto is contracted foir another year at fury after they bought him outright i think from norway or wherever he was on loan from. He is also still out injured?

Huke & Crowell are off contract this year - someone commented elsewhere that Lawrie has said that most of those not already signed won't be retained.
Have these two been signed & I missed it?
Or will they be gone?

I dont know about not as good as these guys but I will say not as ready as them.
The yoof have some nice players and it seems we are also attracting some nice yoof so the future looks good for the ALeague team as in drawing from this pool.
Who ever the seniors get for LB they have a neat apprentice in Kalouris in the wings

Thought huke looked pretty good the other night. A possibility for the RB position

Ryan playing for keeps
Thursday, 11 February 2010
by Glen Lauder

The Central Coast Mariners have taken another key step as they plan for the future, by securing exciting young goalkeeper Mathew Ryan for the next three Hyundai A-League seasons.

Ryan has deputised for regular custodian Danny Vukovic three times already this campaign and also joined Andrew Redmayne in the senior squad once while Vukovic was on international duty, and the 17-year-old has joined a youthful Mariners travelling party for the final match of the 2009/10 season in Wellington.

"Mathew has been a key component of the successful National Youth League side this season and we have watched with keenness his development under the likes of (goalkeeping coach) John Crawley and of course Danny Vukovic and Andrew Redmayne," said Mariners executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"We have always prided ourselves as a club on rewarding outstanding young talent, and we hope we can help develop Mathew into one of the countrys top goalkeepers."

A product of the famed Westfields Sports High School football programme, Ryan came through the ranks at Blacktown City before taking part in the Central Coasts second NYL campaign. He will make his fifth appearance on the bench in tomorrows Hyundai A-League clash with Wellington Phoenix.

"I didnt really expect this at the start of the season but Ive loved my time here at the Mariners so far and its exciting to know Ill be part of the senior squad for the next three years," said Ryan.

"Vuka (Danny Vukovic) is an awesome keeper and I want to keep learning off him, because I never know when I might get a chance."

Central Coast Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna has named six National Youth League regulars, including Ryan, for the trip across the Tasman, as he has to deal with a squad decimated by injury and suspension.

"Taking young boys like Mat on trips like this is a great experience for them and Im sure theyll all do very well. Hes done very well for the youth side and its a bit like Danny in that hes come through so young, we just hope he proves to be as successful as Danny has done," said McKinna.

Ryan is a great young player.

Lots of talk about Payne -> CCM. Unsure how much is legit and how much is people putting 2 and 2 together (not re-signed by us + coast local) and getting 5.
He deserves another year in the HAL, but I'd not be surprised if he went well or poorly. For me the biggest thing is he's not that different to any of the forwards you've got (he'd only be marginally faster than Simon if he is at all). He's got a lot of natural talent, but started playing the game comparatively late and it shows a lot in his speed of thought. Is generally one of our better players in NYL each week, but that's not to say he can step up.

Has been training as a pro for 2yrs, and has done 2 succesful years at NYL. The only way you'll get anything out of him is throwing him in to first team and hoping he learns quick enough to make the natural talent count. If he goes, I wish him luck, but you guys shouldn't get your hopes up.
(With all that said, I'd be happy for us to re-sign him for 1 more year)

No thanks, Would much prefer Pedj - RB, Huke - DM. Huke is the type of player who seems to be able to run/boss the midfield. Also, that little chip over the top for Kwassy's goal in one of the few times he moved up, yum! He's got vision & that's exactly what we need in the heart of our midfield, someone who is able to see the killer pass & dictate the game.

Isnt he the "gun" that Crawley is raving about as being as good as anyone he has coached at this age?

Yep - great signing!!

+1.
Thought Redders could've been the one to replace Danny but if Ryan lives up to his hype, I'll be more than happy. Pleased Redders may now get a chance at regular first team with the roar. He was great for the yoof and an absolute star when Danny went away on INT duty.

Chippers would have to come as a marquee, surely?
Who is this Joshua Rose guy? Brief outline?

Yeah, agreed Barbiero isn't consistant enough at the moment though he's young and when he plays, he's exciting. Just really would like to see another exciting, unpredictable talent - Travis, Oar, Leckie, Barbiero, Danning. Any of those guys would fit my bill :D

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, anyone know firstly where Danning is? Second, when is Kruse contracted 'til? I don't really think he'd like playing left back being an attacking minded player... ?
