Basically had we nailed two or three of the chances in the first half we'd all be happy, happy! NY resolution - Must do better in that regard!

Yep, makes it hard to win games when you're only 1 goal up, but very easy to blow them.

Stupidity from Kwassie, though I imagine it was more the flailing arm (the visual dissent) that led to the yellow, not the words 'Oh come on!'. Still, very very harsh (unless he's been whinging at Williams all game?). Especially when you look at the last match when 2 different players mimicked showing a card in order to get the referee to book an opponent - something which is supposed to be a mandatory caution, but the referee didn't. Where's the consistency?

I have no doubt that the match inspector will make sure Williams realises that it was because he missed a blatant foul that this situation occurred.

Regarding the 2nd goal, if the attacking kick occurred roughly simultaneously to the keeper getting his hands on it then that's typically allowed (though I'm not convinced that convention follows the laws of the game), but looking at the video and the kick actually STARTED as Ryan got his hands on it; it should've been disallowed.

When Muscat spat the dummy, was he throwing his arms around the same way?

The 2 goals Melbourne scored were unfortunate - the first was a goalmouth scramble, it happened, and as for the second - ignoring the fact that the refereeing team got it horribly wrong, it was just a bit of a freak situation. Difficult to stop either of them really - although really, Melbourne scored 3 goals that night!

12500 - for this season, not a bad turnout. For other seasons, it would've been appalling for a NYE turnout. Still, nice to hit 5 figures again.

I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but Dutchy has stepped up to another level over the last few games.

He keeps the line(watch the other defenders use him as their guide), he cuts off anything in the air, he makes unbeleivable tackles and he scores great headers. This guy is the total package and I feel my membership is worth the cost just to watch him play. This is a team sport and dutchy is only 'one of the players' but he is amazing and ozzes experience atm.

Lets hope he is keen to stick around at least to next season when we win the comp and then plays for another one to back it up.

My Mariners hero atm.

On a cheerful note - what a pleasure to have to queue for a beer - as in, there were so many people there! More people, more noise, more smiles, more atmosphere (and, something contrary - almost all of them in their Mariners gear - which shows the supporters are still there if we can get the buggers to turn up each week).
Loved the whole vibe, shame about the result.

Big +1 (and well before the last few games, IMO)

Williams is a C**T.
Fixed - reasons well documented in previous posts. Throw the MRP in there as well

And on that subject, Musc**t. Like others, I can't fathom why he's such a protected species.
If the MRP was even vaguely consistent he'd have their max frequent flyer points and only play every third week!

Booing him every time he's on the ball doesn't work. It just makes him stronger.

Tough loss but I'll take our overall matching it with an in-form high-flyer as a positive.

Next task: Getting goals past Danny ;) (Oh, and Arnie mentioned Mrdja in the post-match...)

Feel for Kwassie. Any player is going to be frustrated when obvious fouls are not being called. When Kwas got sent it looked for a long time like being another gutsy, backs to the wall win. Unfortunately it was not to be but I am very proud of the spirit and heart the team showed against a side in good form. Sainsbury had a much improved performance and looks a good prospect, Dutchy was all class again and Matty Simon and Josh worked their socks off.

As for Ben Williams - terrible. Kwassie was clearly obstructed by Muscat and we should have had a penalty when he brought down Rose. How Muscat gets away with this crap week in week out is beyond me. Every game he is involved in dodgy incidents. For goodness sake he punched a Brisbane team official in clear view of the cameras and it was laughed off by his mates at Fox Sports. He is a disgrace to the game.

We should have continued to play an attacking game with 10. Nullifying our attack and parking the bus only works for limited time. Having no play maker meant counter attacks were not an option, clearances went to the enemy and MV could just continue to probe and pepper our goal which they did.

And he was the last player on the pitch chatting to the supporters and signing autographs. Champion guy...it's exactly what the Mariners and the A-League need...

Also saw him outside chatting with fans while watching the fireworks...This guy is gold on and off the field.

Lot to complain about wit the result. But not a lot to complain about with our actual performance and potential.

At the end of the day I know which one I'd rather be complaining about <_<

Shit refereeing. Kwassy spits dummy after Muscat knocks him over, yellow card.
Muscat spits dummy over corner decision, nothing.

How many opposition strikers end up on the ground holding their heads after being marked by Muscat. MRP is crooked.

Shit tactics, one man down, 20mins to go, 1 goal up. We defend deep in our own half and when we get the ball we give it straight back. No holding possession.
Shoot Arnie.

Shit keeping, caught in no mans land with the cross for the first goal. Dropped ball for the second. It was only a matter of time before his hands cost us.

Fed up.

Muscats a prick
bad tactics,
and yes the mistakes cost us goals but by no means the match once Kwasie was sent off, we got scared
one playmaker was not subbed for the other and bam we gave away the crucial middle third whic we had control off for the previous 25 mins, Ryan will have blunders but in the Massimo taibi scale that second was minimal, the first was lack of experience, and never forget that he made some ripper saves to keep us in the game and then in the lead for 87 minutes

MOM Ryan, despite the first goal (where schwarzy etc would have gone to punch or grab), and the illegitimate second, he had a ripper game!!!
2 Dutchy! kept the back four inline and on task for 87 minutes too
1 bozanic, worked his nut off to make things happen with rose shame about his final touches sometimes :p

I personally think GA got it wrong, bringing perez off for a forward and putting musti on for 3 minutes.
our whole mentality changed and lost composure.

for hutcho, sorry griffiths now wins for me every time, huto has now awareness
of whose in front of him and completely stopped our attacks dead in the water many a time
ibni isei? GET HIM OUT THERE cant be any worse than the possibility of mcbreen mrder. i think simon, isei would be fantastic

Missed the last 25 mins ...

But before we get to stuck into Ryan... lets not forget that we had two players on the side line for madding reasons...

That Muscat sucks players in each match ... ERRRRRRRRR OK ... it happens each match .. so Kassie what were you thinking ... don't fall for the same old same old...

Both Matty and Kassie had almost open goals in the first 20 mins... Kassie from the free just a touch and it was in but his balance was facing the wrong way for the free ... Matty was harder to miss the gaol than hit the side of the net...

Ryan did not loose us that game he made a mistake ... but there were heaps of mistakes ..

For me a wake up call only I hope heading into the finals ... don't give away silly cards ... and as we have all said before the season started ... OH what we would give for a class striker and or finisher with the midfield we have..

Back to Ryan ... it was very poor play given the time of play ... however the team defending so deep did not help his cause ... I still rate the kid he will learn from this I can recall Danny doing a similar thing in Hal 1, at about this time of the comp as well .. we lost to the sheep shaggers I think and Danny was miles off his line... and a shot from close to the side line mid half went in...

Just a couple of points I`ve read in here that I think would improve our attack no end.

1) Our crossing was very lacklustre.
We didn`t attack the goal line & cut it back like we
did so effectively against Sydney.

2) What made our crosses look worse was the failure of
our front men (Kwassie,Matty ) to get ball side of
the defender .
This means that we rely on the defender to miss the
ball or to cock it up.
If we go ball side of the defender a touch becomes a
chance for us.

It`s a simple coaching technique that will improve
our goal scoring chancing by at least 50%

Both Matt Simon and Daniel McBreen just run as fast and as straight as they can to the box - Kwassie times his runs much better and that's why he has scored a few lately - he makes it much harder for the defence to pick him up
