Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Do tell me when you found out, I did post here for about a fortnight about seven years ago but I'd be surprised if rant was so memorable.....

7 years ago .... hmmmm, convenient.

Can't remember your own username from back then hey ???

So created 'Mug' @ 1 am when you thought no one else was on here to notice you registering and 'first -posting'

BUT alas, stupid me  has had my privacy settings on 'invisible' for quite sometime without realising it.

So after you posted & I jumped out of the dark - your 'multi' (which you had stupidly had 'logged on') ..........instantly logged-off.

Ahhh- HA! busted :D :p:headbounce:

Then you unwittingly posted , using a 'term' that I've only ever seen your multi use (there's your first clue people's)

IT wasnt the only mistake you made, BUT it will be but a domino in your ....... ULTIMATE DOWN-FALLLLL !
Whoa huhhuhuuhu -huh :santa:

You won't get any arguments there from any posters on here. So it's lazy, untrue and insulting to pretend the debate on here is simply about a pre disposition towards negativity or optimism. (Which swings both ways) And I think people should ditch that line of argument. It just polarises things, hijacks the discussion and dumbs it down.

So if you had a mind to come down off your impressively high horse mug, while we do all go off road sometimes, you'd see that the arguments are typically pretty informed debate by people who are all passionate about CCM and the best way forward - even if we may strongly differ on how to go about it. IMHO, that's what a good forum should be.

Glad you said that bit! Was starting to think I'm going crazy. It used to be overly negative on here, but still nothing compared to the feral stuff you see flying around on Facebook and Twitter.

I thought we had a good balance of opinions and discussion... maybe a bit more on the optimistic side, but not "happy clappers", or people just blindly accepting everything the club dishes out while cheering.... or have I got that wrong?

Nope, not at all imo.

Traction? What world do you live in? Are you not seeing the crowds plummet. Are you not watching the games?

This season is much more than a poor season, much much worse. We started off with a very poor squad and then proceeded to send three of our best remaining players packing with no replacements.

I can handle a year from hell but this must be a one-off. The club needs to seriously address this. Six senior players of decent quality and none of the few decent players out. If they sell Mitch then I think it will be all she wrote for me and a lot of other fans.

Have a look at Peter Storey's football CV, fill you with confidence?
Some facts:

We averaged 7,585 last season.

This season we're averaging 8,100 with one game to go. It's pretty likely, given the remaining match is a home derby, that we'll finish ABOVE last year. My understanding is also that membership numbers will remain around the same as last season - which is a pretty fair result given last season was awful as well.

As for "send three of our best remaining packing with no replacement"? Last I checked we made plenty of signings in the January window including one Luis Garcia.

I'm pretty sure the club - the people who work hard every day to ensure it's existence - Shaun included, don't want to see a repeat next season and you can bet TW, Storrie (not Storey) and MC don't either.

I think @Forum Phoenix has summed up the general train of thought of most and been pretty frank and reasonable about it. It's fine to be upset, most of us are, but there's some reason and logic to it all as well.

Does that average include Our Geelong home game?
Think the last two games have shown who's coming no matter what.

Shaun I sit in an area where the people who surround me are usually not members they have bought gold tickets for the game. Never seen the same people directly around me (in front, right and behind).

I noticed a family for the MV game which composed mum, dad, 2 boys and grandma and grandpa. They where there to watch their youngest son play on the field at halftime. Under 6 I think but not sure.

Do they pay for these tickets or given a discount?
Are they added to a database to spruik memberships to? They would be perfect as they knew who some of the players were so must have an interest (heard mum say she liked Austin). Maybe full membership is to expensive but the 3 Game might be obtainable. We need to attract these families onto the database.

Noticing it was to watch their Son being the primary reason for attendance, when halftime came their Son was playing on the opposite side of the ground. ( we on west side him on East). The Grandparents might have struggled to see him properly. His mum took him to register or what ever they do and came back and commented they where on the other side and she wasn't allowed across to take photos because there was an official photographer but a friendly staff member used common sense and let get across to the other side.
Maybe you could look at allocating where the kids are going to play so loved ones can organise to sit near there or move around when the time comes. They didn't complain but if we can make the experience better we might get them back. So organise a membership flyer or something with the recommended seat to watch or email them.

I've seen a few 10yr shirts as well this season, so they have either dropped off being members or want to be they just don't know it.
Do you use the data from their purchases to target them?

As to the profit, is the full years operation of the COE what takes us from losses without player sales to budgeted profits?

The CEO will be going straight into MC's pocket. It wasn't his brainchild but it's the only value he sees in the club.

I'd strongly suspect the CEO property and the football club are in nice little separate boxes

For what it's worth Mug is entitled to his opinion and this is a place to vent as much as anywhere.

That said - Mug, if you haven't already, please reread Forum Pheonix's post a page back.

Most of what you (Mug) have said so far has well and truly been said on here before and nutted out over a long period. Many have said exactly what you have. The arguments have bounced back and forth and there has been a lot of decent, intelligent discussion about it.

I'm not trying to change your mind here by the way.

But I am saying Forum Pheonix's post about sums up where the average middle of the argument has ended up, with people sitting either side of it like any spectrum. If you'd have been on this forum for a decent amount of time you'd have seen the range of opinions from the openly hostile to the entirely forgiving. Please by all means join it, and I can tell you now you are not alone in your opinions.

What I would like to say to you - and to others being hostile on here - is that we are on the same side...we are fans of our club. Disagree, certainly, but keep in context that these arguments are not new here and should be discussed using reason not aggression. It doesn't need to be personal.

I urge everyone to reread FP's post and keep perspective

They are completely different companies.

Of course they are. If they weren't then MC would be the most f**ked up business man going around.

Of course. It's exactly how I'd set it up too. Why pollute what makes a profit with a dog of a business like a football club.

Kinda the point he was making wasn't it?

Anyway. MC didn't set it up that way. PT and German did.

The Germans are coming!!!! :pirashoot::pirashoot::pirashoot:

Or have they come and gone like the Russians and Chinese?
(Sorry FFC, some smart arse was going to point out your typo sooner or later :tophat:)

I'm gonna guess that was some sort of mobile "auto-incorrect"... does it to me all the time, followed by much swearing at the phone and I DIDN'T TYPE THAT!

It's simple really folks.

We've had a bad year, awful, on the pitch. For a number of well documented reasons.

But the club's foundations have now been made solid and we'll be building off of that from here on.
With more investment on the pitch and the growth of our younger players we'll do steadily better over the coming seasons.
If we still don't improve then we turf the coach, get another and build on.

Better times ahead. Enjoy the ride. Can't be an upward trajectory all the time, rollercoasters don't work that way.

All football clubs are a dog of a business. He made it out like it was done with ulterior motives.
