If Bozzah was full-time, then he would surley be captain. But for our long term. IMHO, its gotta be Mile Jedinak..

mile does not have both the leadership or vocal skills to be skipper

the only two that possess that in abundance is wilko and hutch, but unfortunately their form is down at the moment

as was previously mentioned stripping someone of their leadership is hardly a motivational tool

Cant believe the negativity here. Agree with Mick's comments about Mile!
Wilko is a fine player down on form a little but he is too good of a player not to bounce back. He led the team last season to the premiership and was the backbone of the team.

People we could be 15 points if luck went our way!
Against- Jets unlucky. Against Sydney should have won. Smashed Qld. Moss saved Well and Melb Mariners had the game wrapped up.
Boogs has been not as strong as Wilko so far this season and there the problem lies. LM has to work on them and we have to defend as a team! The next 2 games will set up the season and 6 points places the club within distance of the top 2.
Lets give Wilko a break! He is loyal and a true Mariner!!!!!

Wilko isn't a great captian but we have no one else.

With all due respect redman, how would you know if Wilko isn't a great captain? Unless a person is in the change rooms and on the training paddock and pitch I don't know how anybody would know if the captain is a great captain or not.

We all know Wilko's form is well down on his usually consistency, but why does that mean he should be replaced as captain? Unless he's dropped why should he be stripped of it? I don't see any correlation between his dip in form and being captain. Maybe there is, but there's no way we know that's for sure.

I'm confident he'll come good. He's too good a player not to. Who do you replace him with anyway? Stringers can't come in and start a match. There's no way he's fit enough to start.

I'm more worried about Hutch to be honest. We're down to bare bones as it is. Ther's not many blokes who can come into the side at the moment anyway.

At the Marinators post season do, Lawrie made mention of the fact that we dont have an "intimidator" in our side like Musc**t, Moore etc and he is quite right.

Whilst it would never happen, I wonder how Gumps would go as onfield leader??

Sash - He doesn't become one of the biggest c*nts in Australian football (according to other teams fans) without being an "intimidator"

isn't the only reason Wilko is captain is because of season 3 at the start he had played every match and he was only what ? 23 ?

Right, lets get a bit of perspective here:

Question: If Wilko were to be dropped to the bench, who do you think would be a suitable replacement as Captain?

I can't see any problem with a thread like this.

Wilko is a big boy and I'm sure he wouldn't bother reading a thread like this, much less actually take any advice from it. If he were to take any notice of this thread rather than listen to the Mariners coaching staff and team mates, then he probably does deserve to be dropped.  :headbutt:

Its a Mariners fan's forum. We're entitled to discuss the team and speculate about the future. If any of you don't like it, don't read it.

I don't know but why would anyone be made captain because he'd played every game? Don't you think he's mental qualities, character, ambassador skills, leadership skills etc would come into it?

Why would you make such a suggestion? In fact, I think it's quite offensive and insulting to Wilko.

Watch Wilko when things are not going to plan. His head goes down,he shakes his head and wanders around looking at his feet when he should be revving them up.I first noticed it last year during that run of bad results while Danny was out.At one point in the 5-2 defeat to the tards I noticed Aloi$i telling him to lift his head.Aloi$i was the real captain last season and at the moment Bozza's doing it.

Wilkos form has nothing to do with it....good or bad form the captain has to stand up and rev them up when things are not going well.

We need a real c**t in our team...a real tosser that the rest of Australia hates.

Some one like Musc**t.

Stupid question.

Also very destabilising and not wanted here. Are you a troll?

You spell like one.

Not wanted here??
37 people have voted..

It is a very depressing reflection on how low this forum has sunk.

I am also amazed at the number here who cannot spell captain. Very sad.

I do not see why anyone would take offence to this thread? If you think wilko should stay captain and not be dropped then you can simply vote that?

Though i agree in some cases stripping somone of captaincy can sink their confidence, it is also true that it can be a huge motivation.

yeah mate, even if you are being hammered 10-0, the captain has to act like its still nil all to rally the troops.

Yes, how dare we show concern for our team and discuss it in a constructive manner, what _were_ we thinking??

Seeing as a lot of people are unhappy about where the thread has gone, how about a change of tack.

Who do you think is the best captain in the A-League (excluding Wilko)? On what occasions has an A-League captain had a significant influence on the result?

I'd have to agree. I think if you hate someone with as much passion as I hate Musc**t, then surely he's doing something right for his team and Melbourne fans love him. He also spends 90 minutes getting in the referee's ear.
