How much of the $3k to play for Mariners or CCU (or any other NPL club) would actually be reduced though? Or the $250 to play in the CCF comp?

Old has been like Ziggy and O'Donovan would just get bigger $$ and clubs would have bigger cash hordes. Or FFA would buy a second floor in Shelley Street.

The average mum and dad wouldn't see much of a reduction in what they have to fork out.

Yes and no. The AFL / Cricket guy is talking about grassroots. He talks to his football mates that quote $3000 for their kids - meanwhile he is paying $250-300 and then getting some of that back from Govt vouchers. Bruce didn't help saying his son is paying thousands.

The truth is at the grassroots the cost of football is actually quite close to other sports. The rep teams, NPL and AL academies are another matter. But the narrative that it costs thousands to play is just not true.

They made the claim that parents are forking out for a) elite coaching and/or b) a mum's and dad's coach. I'm no expert but if parents are paying $thousands for the latter there is something seriously wrong at their club or local Federation.

No one would deny that a lot of the money is to cover insurance costs these days, but that would be pretty consistent across codes, and maybe even cheaper for football compared to the heavy contact codes (or at least it shoud be).

There's very little evidence showing that the high fees translate into funding national teams or that more money to fund national teams would trickle down to make football cheaper for the grassroots.

That's an important point. Evidence.

All Clubs, Federations, the FA, and goverment funding need to be transparent in their income/expenditure to root out any dodgy goings-on. And it would expose best practice and where money is being wasted.

I would agree that goverment funding (State, Local, Federal) would show a massive disparity.

And would also expose how much has been wasted on failed World Cup Finals bids. The dilemma for the latter is that you have to bid to have any chance of hosting events like the superbly successful Women's World Cup last year.

Good point. That might be true at the local club level. But you would like to think that football would have a massive advantage in revenue streams being the world game. Eg.

AFL Premiership - $1.2 million
AFL International Club competition - Ha, ha, ha
NRL Premiership - $1 million
NRL International Club competition - Ha, ha, ha
A-League Grand Final - $0
FFA Cup - $50,000
AFC Cup - $2.3 million

We used to get a breakdown of rego costs. FA only got $30 give or take. I'd rather they look at what the state feds offer and the garbage insurance, speaking of which the banks got done for junk insurance a while back but FNSW forces it on every participant. I can see what my club offers me and at least some value out of what CCF provides. Further up the chain not so much.

But you're right that if someone is paying for elite coaching be it academies or NPL clubs it's expensive, but its also a choice that impacts a small number. From what I've heard grass roots is much more expensive in Melbourne.

Seems all about right, except the fact that Joey champness is the same rating as our top players like doka, and higher then 95% of our team, that is beyond ridiculous, few of our players could be 1-2 higher then they are too

Even if they did something like cap the players to 10 games or something it would help a lot with players returning from injury or on the fringe of the squad. Many of which may be academy graduates that have just aged out.
