Ya, I have to say, it was quite a feeling of euphoria down around 16/17 after the stand responded to "who do we sing for" for the first time :)
BRILLIANT work guys... And girls :)... Wondering if it's all down to the new Megaphone :)

If we can do with 10,000 at home what we did with 7,000 tonight, we'll have good home support that doesn't just involve our active support, but the sit down brigade as well. It was a positive step forward, especially that the singing didn't stop even at 3-0 down...

On the game.

Few thoughts,

1) 3 zip is not even close to an accurate reflection of that game.

2) Mile was very good I thought, but Duke adds still more and could be the difference in games like this imho, especially when we have a dominant half of football like our first that needs to be capitalised on.

3) On the first half, I have never seen a HAL team do anything remotely like that to a japanese side. Unbelievable. Some truly outstanding passages of play. I think at HT they were probably torn pillar to post and shamed ino lifting big time, and they came out at us hard, clearly intent on a bit of niggle, and without better protection from that one eyed whistle swallowing referee impersonator, they fought their way back into what had been a very one sided affair till then.

4) WE ARE IN THE GROUP OF 16!!!!!!!! And I'm so bloody glad, because watching those guys tonight, I couldnt stop thinking damn this side deserves to play some more football this season.

5) The desire and hunger has never been so strong. Did you see half the players on the announcement of going through? HAlf of them looked like they couldn't give two shits, all they wanted to do was beat the bastards they just played against and set things to right. Loved it,

Despite the loss & some dubious refereeing I`ll always remember tonight as the night the Coast found it`s voice.
It was something special to hear the response to the YA. I`d love to have been close enough to see Peter`s face .

All we need to do now is reduce the use of the 3 clap Mariner`s /(the 2 clap is way better) & work on a few more interactions.
I agree with PP being MOM...great work.
Justa side note too ,The Japs must have been totally confused when the response was"We sing for Yellow" & they were the team in yellow!
Maybe "we sing for "Mariner`s" would be much better.JMO

Warning Downer Alert Post!

Great work with the mic but - Who do sing for? Really I just can't sing the WSW major call to arms. Don't get me wrong it's a super chant & they do it like no other chant in the A League but copying it is just not on IMO. Also Yellow just doesn't quite sound right.
The variation yes - We Are - Mariners was a better change up - With the potential to change Mariners to Champions or
Who Are We - Mariners
What Are We - Champions

Also the Mariners clap clap was really off tonight in the first half - The stands & the YA were out of sync big time. While it's hard the YA needs to stop there chanting when the stands start the Mariners call & take it over instead of competing against it a few times. It is probably easier to stop the YA & let them catch the beat of the stands as they are better organised. The chant fell away poorly early because the YA didn't take it to the next level (no disrespect just the facts).
In the 2nd half with the mega when the YA started & Lead it - it worked great.

As for the failed Stand up - Great potential - But no one knew what you wanted them to do after standing up - Cracker potential to turn that into the Coast chant.

As for the play - The boys really held there own in the first 1/2 - But the boys with O/s ambitions fell short & showed the work that needs to be done - The step up in opposition really hurt the boys

Berni - keep losing the ball at the end of his runs under pressure - Won't cut it overseas if plays like that - Which unfortunately I believe he has those tendacies more than it was a bad night. The field did look a little rough after the NRL as well - An overseas putting green surface would probably help him

Matt Ryan - Not a great nite - Doesn't quite feel to me he is as good as people say - Good but not great - Really should have saved the 3rd - Tough critic will probably say the 1st to or at worst got a hand to it.

Trent - Was great in 1st half & really composed in front of Holga - Couldn't see much of him in 2nd half as he was down the other end - Not sure if they scored on his side on the break (would appear so as that is his side) but I couldn't see

Arnie - They knew what we were doing before we even kicked it. We have been playing some unreal football against average opposition but tonight they had great tactics & knew exactly where we were going - They knew we were going wide & were moving 3 players at a time to cut of the ball player the pass & the runner (our trade mark). The boys were mentally fragile they had no plan B - They need to mix it up & attack the middle - We leave a massive hole when the boys do get forward at the top of the box to half way line with no one to smash a line drive in to the top corner if the ball comes out of the box - To many times that happened & they got the ball in the hole & momentum was gone. We are just to predictable & the Jap's were all over us like a wanderer to a flare.

Apart from my whinge great atmosphere & boys tried hard & the ref thought it was rugby league when we where attacking & touch footy when they were - But this is Asia get used to it.

Almost forgot the best part - The booing when they hit the grass - Awesome - Number 23 - I'd laugh if his name was Woo must be thinking these Aussie love me I am a god - Not sure what was better the Booing of him or the chuckle after woods when it became the thing to do - Just wonderful

Goodluck in round of 16

:piralaugh:

. we have been using that chant since way back in season 1 ... a good seven years before the wanderers even existed!

. i am not trying to argue that we didn't 'borrow' it from someone else way back then either ... but we certainly DID NOT copy the wanderers

. for me it sounds wrong when wsw do it because they try and cram too many syllables in

. WE SING FOR YELLOW ! :overheadl:

Sweet - As you might know I'm new to the area & to Mariners so my apologies. Great news actually as now I can join In.
Didn't hear it at the WSW game (although was to close to them to hear anything apart from the odd mariners chant) & didn't hear it at MV semi either - But did hear it Grand final on walk to the game & thought we were ripping it off them. So My bad

To Big Al,

well said, I agree with most of your statements, YA and the rest of the crowd do need to work togher a bit more to get it right, however, last night was a huge step in the right direction, give it time and the songs will boom in unison, shame though that we are unlikely to see any more home game action and I hope the impetus is not lost come start of next season.

The megaphone worked well, last night was the first time in 8 years of attending games that I actually heard the chants. I truly believe it assisted in getting the masses to sing as one. I also think that most people are a little intraverted and as such tend to be somewhat reserved with their chants and sing-a-long, yet secretely they get a buzz out of it, they just need that extra drive to let their inhibitions go, I noticed this at the GF and at last nights ACL game.

So to all the YA active supporters, kudos to you!!!

Great atmosphere and a fun night tonight. Definately didnt deserve to lose 3-0.

Ahhhh ... I remember it well. Losing three zip at home ..... having so much fun at Bluetongue (almost rhymes hehehe).

And they prevented us from scoring .... that's definitely sooo unfair.

And then they turned around and scored three AGAINST us. Completely undeserved!!! Where was the stupid ref???

OMG now that I realise ..... WE WAS ROBBED
