I think the point was to get more of the crowd behind creating an atmosphere, in my mind that was achieved last night. Whether the choice of songs was entirely apt I think in this case is secondary.

Personally I dont like many of the chants and rhythms all that much, no disrespect intended. Has anyone ever taken notice of the Asian team supporters songs? I kinda like what they get up to.

As for the spelling of introverted....merely an incorrect vowel movement between friends...

Good one, Lowlander! :goodpost:I think there was a very good reason why they called it the Great Vowel Shift at the time http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Vowel_Shift

Regarding chants and songs, maybe somebody from the YA can publish the available repertoire in a separate thread and then pin it to the top of the main page so we can all sing from the same song sheet.

I still think a chant/song should be appropriate to what is happening on the pitch and in context and should not come across as self-parody or being besides the point entirely.

Anyone wanna try to convince me that there isn't a quality gap between us and the Asian clubs?

Guizhou and Suwon both drew away to Kashiwa earlier in the group stage and Guizhou only lost 1-0. Suwon lost 6-2 at home missing three penalties, indicating both sides were all over the shop.

Meanwhile we weren't at the races against Kashiwa either time. We had even *contests* against the Guizhou and Suwon, but in both cases the closeness came because their quality was better but our rhythm was super.

The main difference is the quality of their strikers. They are much more clinical (and expensive) than most HAL forwards.

Might I add that joining in the chants would come a bit easier if the chants were selected a bit more intelligently,i.e., according to the prevailing situation, e.g.,

'We're champions' when the game has nothing to do with HAL, the team is not playing like champions (at least not in the second half) and the opposition is pissing on us to the tune 0f 3 zip in our own stadium. We are nobodies in the history books of the ACL (so far) and we were well on the way to remaining thus except for the grace of others.

'singing for Yellow' when the opposition team and their travelling fans were clad head to toe in that colour.

BTW, I don't think 'intraverted' is an actual word, but if it were it would have to mean something like 'having one's head up one's own backside' or something to that effect.:D:D

We are the Yellows mate regardless of who we are playing (btw they should have been in their away strip!).

I've never heard Man U stop calling themselves united just because they are playing against Leeds (the real utd) or Newcastle.

not gonna happen. Not putting anyone forward. Guizhoy #11 the danger man, plays all over the field, is fast & great on the ball.

I was in the active support last night (first time, but I've just read that the chanting and new megaphone was impressive).

I'd move the megaphone and the active crowd down to the front, to take charge of the area.
Get the first ten rows of people now sitting to stand up and join in, or move away.
Pull all the chanters together into one group and focused.
The capo leads the chants, nobody else starts anything.
Work out a list of chants and when they are most suitable.
Work towards getting them repeated for longer periods, so they don't fade too soon. Kashiwa had some simple chants that just went on and on.
Encourage everyone to encourage everyone else, in other words, get people standing with their arms folded to join in.
When you want to involve the other stands you have to warn them in advance (like all stand and point, or oooh and point), so they know they are going to be called on. Last night the first they knew of anything was when we sang "We are", so it took two or three before they realised what was happening.

I was in bay 47 on Tuesday and for the most part I could hear the capo's instructions from the mega - I think it was more an issue about people being comfortable participating. The only times where I couldn't really hear the mega was when the action picked up around the box (a couple of the C&Rs also fell flat for the same reason - the stands wanted to focus on the action rather than responding).

The only real suggestion I had was around the stand-up attempt - telling people what you wanted them to do after they stood up before you actually got them to stand up would have led to a lot less confusion.

Great point - WSW raise the flag then all raise their arms & point - & hold it for a short time - Basically making shore they are acknowledged by the stands before starting.

Maybe getting everyone standing could be used as a sign - Everybody stands & that means we are singing X chant.

The MEGA MEGA will also help - Got to remember (correct me if i'm wrong) this was the first time the stands had responded to the Yellow Army - So baby steps - But we headed in the right direction.

Also I think everyone watching WSW has made them want to join in on super chants, They now know what can happen if they all chime in together & therefore are more inclined to do so. Tuesday was a great example & the rewards are there for all to see. It also allows the stands to chant a few times as one group of supporters while leaving the constant all game chanting to the YA.

Great work with the mic but - Who do sing for? Really I just can't sing the WSW major call to arms. Don't get me wrong it's a super chant & they do it like no other chant in the A League but copying it is just not on IMO. Also Yellow just doesn't quite sound right.
The variation yes - We Are - Mariners was a better change up - With the potential to change Mariners to Champions or
Who Are We - Mariners
What Are We - Champions

Also the Mariners clap clap was really off tonight in the first half - The stands & the YA were out of sync big time. While it's hard the YA needs to stop there chanting when the stands start the Mariners call & take it over instead of competing against it a few times. It is probably easier to stop the YA & let them catch the beat of the stands as they are better organised. The chant fell away poorly early because the YA didn't take it to the next level (no disrespect just the facts).
In the 2nd half with the mega when the YA started & Lead it - it worked great.

As for the failed Stand up - Great potential - But no one knew what you wanted them to do after standing up - Cracker potential to turn that into the Coast chant.

Some good points.

I love this variation & have to concede that the drive-bys have not only taken the hubcaps but also the "who do we sing for". I`m sure PP could extend this with a clap that we could make our own.

The stand up was good to but as you say it needed a reason.
Something like"stand up-for the Mariners"along the lines of Go West by Pet Shop Boys then one you get them up launch into another chat/clap.

Just some more ideas & feedback but now that the YA have us on board we have to keep it going.

P.S The megaphone made the difference

Our next opposition, the multi-million dollar Guangzhou Evergrande. I doubt they'll have it this easy against us:
