ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

While I'm pissed off that we're playing games down there, I'd love to go there for an *away* game. More HAL matches in driving distance FTW. Has the makings for massive, messy away trips. Trips down the Federal Highway, big nights out in the capital and stumbling back to a backpackers or a Formula 1 ahoy!

hehe at dibo getting excited about canberra

now only to have gough as the patron of the new club and i think you would literally wet your pants

STFU! ;D

I'd laugh so much if the Labor Club at Belconnen or in the City becomes the designated social club (the latter of which is apparently the 'home' of Canberra City). It's not a bad chance. Dirt cheap booze, cheap food, good staging point before hitting up the town.

It'd be likely to be the club most like the Mariners. They'll link in with Capital Football and the AIS to build a 'straight through' development path to get players through, and they've got a market all to themselves. They'd be able to be very community focussed, and there's plenty of money to tap down there - on average it's the highest paid and best educated city in the country.

I think they'd do very well, I'd love to see them in.

If Canberra get an A-League team they should have 2 of their home games at Bluetongue to even things up.

And yes, Adz, that would balance the ledger. Cheeky!

Would you go and watch Canberra v Adelaide while we played Sydney up the road? Or GCU on the Gold Coast? Or the Scum in Scumsville?

Sorry Scottmac, not sure what your point is?

Are you saying, IF I WAS A CANBERRA supporter BASED IN CANBERRA, would I go to the listed matches you've quoted?
The answer, hypothetically, would probably be no. I'd stay at home and watch Canberra play @ home.

If they moved a Canberra game, to Bluetongue like Adz has suggested, then that falls right back to where we are tomorrow. And the answer would be: depends if I could travel.....and the circumstances behind the move.

Sorry if I misread what you posted.....

My point is the Coast have a team, f**k the ledger and stay off the grass

could the announcement have anything to do with the fact an A-league game is scheduled for Canberra this weekend....and the FFA may be aware of rumours of no one going ?  by suggesting Canberra may now have the inside running for the 12th licence, this may mean football locals decide to go to the game just to show support for a Canberra A-League team......
just my cynical view of the timing, that's all.......

Agree with that sentiment.

The WS bid that pulled out was always all talk. They never had any cash it seems. Am personally glad they wont be in it.

But there are 2 other bids, both i think also not having the cash, i think the cash is also the problem with the canberra bid.

Appaerntly gong council has put aside money for fixing WIN. Too late i am sure for this round of expansion. But possible for later. Though they also struggled for cash.

Canberra tick all the boxes, though some of they money offered is tax payer money.

You sure? Didnt the head of the bid say that they had ticked most but not all?

Maybe canberra have ticked all the financial boxes and it comes down to the FFA's idea of support, for tv and attendance

Its funny how two clubs us and scum are owned (or part owned) by sydney business men and the FFa have not suggested a merger then a transfer of one of the licences to the western burbs. Creates a bigger pool north of Sydney and frees up another spot for the Canberras etc.
Now this is only a scenario and not to my liking. But until I see building work at Club tuggerah??

The FFA wants more clubs to have a longer season, satisfy the AFC for more AFC CL spots and to give more content to Fox Sports, not a reshuffling of what we've got.

It just doesn't seem that likely to me (on the above grounds and also because it's breathtakingly stupid) that the FFA would transfer a club that has done millions worth of work to cultivate its own area to another area that has laid fallow and at the same time essentially merge two derby rivals.

If they were worried about bigger pools, they wouldn't have given a licence to Townsville - a city of only 160,000.

If the FFA want more teams why dont they bank role the West Suburbs themselves . They already prop up other clubs so why not the Burbs with 2.5 million people. There is obviously a shortage of sponsors and club benifactors interested in football if FFA can't assist in building this franchise. I appreciate the work the mariners do in building their network (I spend a lot sending my grandkids to there camps) and i see where the growth areas of those camps are.

Buckley said in the paper today that the ffa having a stake is an option, but not prefered.

In the end if it comes down to it they will do it. Todays quotes suggest that canberra is not an option, and it will be WS or 11 teams next year.

IMO the most important decision before the FFA to get the correct people behind the second Sydney team... better to play with 11 than get a no hoper ... maybe better still to take part ownership and then on sell to an acceptable buyer... just make the ticket prices more reasonable...

Exactly. If FFA cant deliver the product who will. And the competion needs the second Sydney team. And mariner fans get another close by match.
A match badged as blacktown versus blacktown by the sea.

hate being sea bogans....

I think western Syd, especially at the time of second melbourne team is a must and will do excellent things for the league. First team that could seriously rival Melbourne for supporters I think. Sydney Bling are never going to be the big guns until atleast we have secured an Australian World cup imo and "football" truly becomes all the rave here. So bring on Athletico Bogan FC I say
