Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

What I find interesting about these bids is as was discussed in another thread somewhere if we bid today would we still get in and the answer is more than likely no.

Our performance to date both on and off the park means we have little risk of being asked to leave ......... but the Nix ....... do we keep them in and leave out the Gong or WS ....... are the Nix's converting NZERS to football do they draw big away crowds........ Apart from a promise by Frank Lowy to get us into Asia and how long without bringing something to the table does Frank Lowys promise lasts is IMO this is an  interesting question........

We already are starting to be taken seriously as a football nation (slowly) just not by our own media lol

I mean, to take our game to a whole new level, we need to conform to the established football orthodoxy of Europe, South America, and the rest of the world generally. That means we have regional and cross-town rivalries, and all the other good things those leagues can offer. :)

Nix bring in NZ tv money. Which is worth more than our away support and tv audiences easily i believe.

Spot on which is why they will stay for as long as Fox is sole broadcaster. If that ever changed however..............

Then there would still likely be seperate tv rights for NZ. Those right worth the most with NZ team in it.

Honestly i think it is more likely that a second NZ team would join the league rather than the nix be dropped unless their owner pulled the plug

Any idea what kinda money NZ TV brings in or how much would be lost if a NZ side was not playing in it. I find it interesting with the Gong having Bruce Gordon who is the owner of WIN TV Corporation and the gong has a huge football tradition ........ and SW what 8 or more former NSL clubs many state league teams over 100 , 000 registered players Kool saying he backs this area.

So which of these two bids do you say no to ....... and say yes to Nix at the same time.

I am not saying to kick Nix's out simply head to head who would you pick....... I understand the NZ has had a team from day 1 of Hal ...it's just a very hard decision to make their are heaps of pros and cons both ways. Not to mention the AFL plan to move a team into WS so it is not an easy call to make.

Gordon has made no indication that he will use his stake in ten to push for a-league rights.

The gong can still come in in 3 years or more and before the rights are up for renewal.

Dont forget within 15 years i think the AFC will demand us a second division.

As well the more clubs currenlty, the more the a-league rights will be worth. I think that lowy would be wanting 14-16 for the next deal. So as to have a couple on FTA, and the rest on fox.

Meanwhile having a NZ team means that they get to sell the same product twice. The rights would be worth very little in NZ if the Nix were not in it. Given the current rights deal with fox, I do not doubt that financially that deal is worth their while, though i have not seen any figures.

Will go diggin though.

You make some excellent points good luck with your digging .... I guess NZ brings 4.2 million people who potentially can watch,  the pay TV take up in NZ would be interesting as well as it is a pay TV product so I assume the numbers are quite small as a percentage of the total population.

On the 10 thing ..........some time back 10 indicated to Fox they wanted the Socceroos and two A-League matches and about the same time 9 indicated in also wanted the Socceroo matches and the Saturday night A-League match ......... my understanding is both 9 & 10 wanted information from Fox about football which Fox was not prepared to release and Fox wanted more for the matches ( and a lot more ) than either channel was prepared to pay ....... but there is interest in football from the FTA's.

I actually don't think the A-League is of a high enough standard to go FTA as the ARU found out when they played those rugby teams last year it actually did more harm than good as RU looked second rate. The Socceroos and ACL on the other hand would be excellent on FTA.

I agree with you on the 14 to 16 team competition in time ...but given these finincial times the extra teams could be further way than was tho ....... thus back to my comment if you leave out either WS or the Gong ....... it could be a while before they can a chance to join ........

Anyway must finish some work for a couple of clients ......... Fark I wanta win Power Ball ..... then go and buy a football team or into the Mariners ahhhhh well one hand typing finished but to work

Cheers

Introducing ... North Queensland Fury

November 06, 2008 THE Townsville-based team entering the A-League next season will be known as North Queensland Fury.

The name was announced at a press conference in Townsville, where Football Federation Australia chief executive Ben Buckley confirmed the FFA commitment to further expand the league.

The league grows to 10 teams next season with the arrival of the Fury and a Gold Coast team.

Buckley said the FFA remained confident the league could grow to at least a 12-team competition, and possibly 14 teams.

The FFA is continuing discussions with a number of consortiums about entry to the league in the 2010-2011.

I vote to add an "r" & presto they are now 'NQld Furry' or the "Furries", erotic costume onnoisseur's.

Furries are fond of errr um? 'fondling' whilst dressing up in animal suits according to wiki:

Or perhaps they're all just a bunch of hairy bastards in need of a few 'brazilians', both on the park and 'downstairs' as well  :p
