Yorke close to signing with the Mariners

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
hmmmmm...I dunno about this one...and I say this even though I am a Man U fan and thoroughly enjoyed his work with Andy Cole at the Devils....AND as my uncle said he could do the same with Sasho...I dunno but

Don't want him as our Marquee, for me this is like grabbing Sydney's slops. I agree that he would be excellent from a coaching point of view, but in my opinion we don't need another midfielder. We need a quality striker, and we are not getting that with Yorke.

For the profile of the club this is not a bad move, but I would pefer someone else. If we do get him work out a way of getting him within the cap (i.e. coach/player).

Age (within reason of course) has little to do with it IMO. I'm certain there are many 'older' players from the various international leagues that would run rings around quite a few of the HAL players. Yes young guns are definately needed as well, just don't be ignorant and right-off a player due to age.... I prefer someone who can read the play and be there than someone can't and has to run half the pitch to get where he should be....

But I agree with not having him as our Marquee, he would have to fit in under the cap!

i agree with that one.. imagine how good it could be if we could have elrich, yorke, and a big name/good player marquee.. good for the profile of the club i think! :)

i dont think it would be 'grabbing sydney's slops'.. he went to sunderland, i think (personal opinion) they are slightly better.. but then again im sure SFC would have some issues with us copying them yet again.. !

The two as well as potentially the third ex sydney players we have signed: Petrovski, Ceccoli and Yorke all left Sydney on their own devices which all comes down to the ineffective way in which the flying circus is managed. not due to being booted so therefore we are not grabbing sydneys slops

They are definantly not sydney slops. It just shows how incompetent Sydney are. Look at the coach they employed! Once he gets his hands on Sydney good and proper and is not working with Branko Culina's set up, you watch him stuff it up and lose his cool. I feel a nostradamus moment coming on!! I can see Kosmina and Breeze toe to toe froth coming from the mouth of the SFC coach and Breeze showing him a red card!!!

Yeah you are right....a coach who wins adelaide the premiership year 1, makes the grandfinal with adelaide season 2 and then rescues sydney season 3 is a terrible coach ???

You have no idea, Brankos set up had them struggling at the bottom, kossie went in and played a different style using different players and sydney made the finals, almost claiming the premiership. He has now signed 4 good players in aloisi, colosimo bridge and musilak.

But despite all that, he is a bad coach ::)

we wont get a big name marquee... not as big as you are hoping anyway. lyall as reassured their wishes not to spend big money in todays express.

if we get yorke, it seems it will only be if its on a not-so-big salary... im assuming around the $500 000 mark or something.

apparently they are meeting today, so hopefully some info comes out of it.

I'd like him as a striker not as a central mid. He adds little to the midfield roster as he is similar to the players we already have.
As a striker for Villa & Manyoo he was streets ahead of a player like JA, in both quality, technique and finishing ability. He may be old but is very fit and would slot away plenty of goals and set up heaps for Mrdja or Sasho.
He'd be a great signing for us.

I disagree. Hutch and Jedinak are work horses. They will run all day, move the ball around, hold it up... but they don't have that creative flare that we need from someone like Yorke - the ability to slot balls through and set the strikers up. We have strikers... and plenty of pace if we get Nik fit and sign MacAllister, and Matty Simon is pretty quick, too.

When I said 'Sydney's slops' all I am simply trying to say is that I would like to look at new possibilities rather than the tried and tested. Yorke will still do a job, but surely there is someone else out there...??

Not really.
Not exactly slow though, and when on form his work rate is good, watch him set up Kwas on the second goal aswell.

Yeah, he's a great striker when he's knee's alright!
If we get him back, we'll be unstoppable.

He has good bursts of pace, which helps his goal poaching, shown by the third goal and his involvement in the second and stepping players in the first is awesome.

I haven't even started on his free kicks yet, the guy can f**kin' smash the ball through any wall...
