im with serious, i tend to think signing yorke (on a minimum 2 year deal) would be a waste of time and money. he'd create great publicity and maybe do something for the crowds but winning big games over and over does more for the crowds than any individual player can do. dwight was amazing in his younger years, great at sydney 3 years ago, but really.. he's getting very old.. it's going to be hot.. he's going to want to party every now and then.. i don't think its a wise move. if he gets injured EVERYONE will be whinging.

Are you trying to say that the players we have are saints? These guys are human just like everyone else and like to party every now then. Who cares if he wants to go out for a few drinks after a game. I'm sure the rest of the boys will join him for a few every now and then.

I think the main point is that he has a high propensity to get injured due to old age. If we spend so much money on a two year deal and he can't serve it out, what use is he? At least, I think that's the original poster's opinion. Forgive me if I'm presumptuous.

Still, I'm excited to see someone of Dwight's calibre coming to our club! Hopefully he doesn't let us down -- I bet he won't :).

If this is true, then what a horrid waste of money and time.

We need pace and creativity in the midfield, not the exact opposite.   Sh*t decision from all concerned.

Lawrie seemed to indicate that we might be interested - but as a striker - not midfield.

I'd like him as a striker not as a central mid. He adds little to the midfield roster as he is similar to the players we already have.
As a striker for Villa & Manyoo he was streets ahead of a player like JA, in both quality, technique and finishing ability. He may be old but is very fit and would slot away plenty of goals and set up heaps for Mrdja or Sasho.
He'd be a great signing for us.

I'd be pretty interested how he goes up front.
Was impressive with Man U! Could run circles around anyone in this league. Regardless of age.

How did he go this year. I know he played half the season. But did he miss the rest injured? Or just not selected?

It sure was, but the guy is fit.
If Mori could still score over and over then Yorke can do it.

I'm just saying I'd be interested on seeing how he goes, even as a stop-gap if Nik doesn't get fit.

Yorke with Mariners [RUMOUR]

Dwight Yorke has become the Central Coast Mariners marquee player for next season. He has put pen to paper with the club. It is unknown the wage he is going to be on. This is a great buy for the club. He was lured by ex-Sydney player Sasho Petrovki. They have got a great partnership together and will grow enormously.

I reckon Yorke is physically a good 5 years younger than most at his age and at A League standard Id give him another 2-3 years
