ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Who should be the coach

As much as TW needed to shout to the world in the match against GG we are back ... The Mariners need to shout to the Football community we are back.

MC said at a Fans forum last year and on the podcast FFA would not allow him to move the license if we failed on the Coast essentially FFA would take back the license and locate it as they see fit.

With this in mind, new media deals on the horizon, marquee funds, guest players, hard ball with the Nux,

Every club when they signed a license extension agreed to met certain performance criteria, essentially around crowds, ratings, football development, memberships etc.

MC said on both times in the forum and the podcast the COE was our insurance policy ..

My gut tells me somewhere along the way FFA have had a word to us and said don't go even close to last year, which makes me think we will get an experienced coach for the least possible money...

Mulvey of the locals appears to logical choice but Style above said a Martin Allen an English coach that could be right as MC and the other English folk would know him .

I think we will get a decent appointment but as I said my gut tells me FFA have discussions with us .
We cannot afford another season like last one(or the year before) that's for sure. The players really need to be up for it, and that will be a lot down to the coach that comes in.

I know that patience is required, but geez I'd like to see some real rumours on who it might be, rather than the usual articles trotted out by the main media sites, arguing for why the usual 6-or-so coaches are the most likely candidates, without having a clue what the club is actually thinking.

It's got to be a bit of a product boon for any of those sites whenever a new coach is needed, they don't even need to write new content, they just have to update the date in the corner, do a search-replace on the club name and re-post...

Agree, I'm definitely not reading too much into what the press are printing on this topic. I doubt most of if not all the usual subjects being listed are probably not even in contention. Time will tell but I guess it keeps the blogs ticking over as well.

Rudi Garcia And Tim Sherwood are available and both have decent win percentages.

Iain Dowie was going well a few years ago.

What's with the foreign managers? Are Aussie managers not good enough?

Simple maths more Foreign options than local, but if someone like a Steve Bruce for example became available, would you knock him back over an Australian candidate.
Take the best person for the job, nationality is irrelevant.

I'd absolutely knock Steve Bruce back. Why take a big money but done nothing OS coach over a hungry young Aussie who knows the league, knows the landscape, knows the players and personalities, etc.

Apart from Ange.....no not really......of the list of candidates only Mulvey fits the bill, and his head got a bit big after winning the championship.
Steve Bruce would be too expensive but would be good....a lot of top level knowledge.
I don't want someone that knows the league I want someone that knows Football and can set out a decent side and motivate them.

In that case, I wouldn't be looking to England; the English leagues are immensely well paid but not incredibly tactically or technically sophisticated. In short, you're likely to pay a lot for someone to shoot with an English accent.

Judge the managers on their resumes, but British managers will likely find easier and better paying jobs at home.

I think I listed a German and a Frenchie as well.
The English are more known to us.
My club Leeds had a German and a Serb coach us and both were disasters....after that we had A Scot and a now we have a Taffy.
I don't care where they come from but they need to be higher calibre than Moss, Tony, Sully and Hutcho.

I think the managers I threw up as possibles are all unemployed ( as 1st team coaches) so a gig here on reasonable money might be a nice way to spend a couple of years and help them reestablish themselves.

Look, I've coached a season of under 18s, I player/coached a game of AA2, and coached 7 minutes of u13s this year. I have an exceptional record on FM12, with 5 champions league titles, 6 Bundasliga titles, and 4 German cups, in 7 seasons with Mönchengladbach. I'm a good bloke, and handy with a megaphone. I'm also very available. Sign me up #hireprior

Mate I don't have a drinking problem, I have a full beer in front of me. No problem here.
Alcoholics go to meetings. I, on the other hand, go to parties.

Herbert puts his hand up for Mariners job:

Former Wellington Phoenix and New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert has thrown his hat into the ring for the Central Coast Mariners job, insisting he can help the club recapture past glories.

The 55 year-old Kiwi, who led Phoenix to three successive finals during his six-season reign, also masterminded an unbeaten 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign for the All Whites in South Africa, where they bowed out in the group stage after three draws.

He recently parted company with the Maldives after a nine-month spell in charge for family reasons, but Herbert is now eyeing the Mariners post as he seeks to return to the competition after a two-and-half-year absence.

"I've had a lot of experience in coming in to clubs in the sort of circumstances the Mariners are in and doing very well," said Herbert, who quit the All Whites after failure to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

"I was there at the start with the Phoenix when we were battling and managed to get to them to three finals series in a row and also with the national team we were 156th in the world when we started off and managed to get to a World Cup and remain unbeaten.
"I think these sorts of projects are something that I have done before ... it look like the roster the Mariners have at the moment is all that's going to be there and from my perspective that's fine because I look at that the squad they have assembled and there is plenty of experience there, plus they have a good crop of young players coming through.

"It would be about building the club back and getting some stability and success over a long period of time."

During his stint with the Maldives, Herbert took the tiny Indian Ocean nation up 20 ranking spots and he now is back in New Zealand, having terminated the deal prematurely.

"It was an interesting challenge and I like challenges," added Herbert. "We moved the ranking up quite dramatically and had some good successes. I enjoyed the experience."

But club management beckons again for Herbert, who has joined the likes of former Brisbane Roar coach Mike Mulvey in the hunt for the Gosford gig made available last week by the sacking of Tony Walmsley.

"I think at one time I was probably the longest serving manager in the A-League and it's a competition I know very well and continue to follow closely," he added.

"I was probably one of the longest serving managers at one club on the bounce also with Wellington, with 155-odd games ... so it's a league I understand well and I think I understand the position the Mariners are in at the moment, in terms of what they have done in the past and where they sit currently.

"They are a good club, an exciting club and they have a culture as a community based club ... and that's something I would certainly embrace.

"When we started the Phoenix that was also that philosophy and three or four years later we had 32,000 at the stadium for a finals match."

We could do worse than Ricki, he did get the Nix into the Finals 3 years in a row.

Would put the Kiwi above Mulvey, because of his brighter demeanour/candour - exhibits more positivity than Mulvey's sourness.

I'd prefer Mulvey but would be happy with Ricky.
Didn't he get sacked by the nix in the end?

He took on an advisory role with Wellington after he resigned from the Nix - to concentrate on the The All Whites 2014 World Cup campaign, that they failed to qualify for.

then PNG,
then Maldives - resigning in June this year.
